New Infraction System (1 Viewer)

You know what happens when you assume.........:D

Actually - I'm now even more perplexed than my normal state of confusion.
So, even the slightest joke can earn an infraction, unless the SUPREME COUNCIL OF MODERATORS grant a post a certain stamp?

Only kidding. I'll be observing how this one works out with avid interest.
My "assumption" is that it'll be applied with an even hand in order to keep......

......to a minimum.

Or, then again, it could be my natural naivity breaking through again, as in;

This is one of those well-intentioned ideas that sounds good in theory. Who could be against members being civil? The difficulty lies in how it is enforced. There are biases and personality conflicts on the forum. That's human nature. We all have different likes and dislikes. What is deemed "inflammatory" may depend on a lot of subjective factors. For example, if I sold mostly KC products for a living, I might believe it inflammatory for others to criticize those products on my forum and potentially reduce sales. I'm not saying that is what is happening - the TF folks seem like amazingly fair and nice people, but it is human nature to bring our own interests into these decisions.

That's probably best answered by the moderators themselves. My point was that I think that allusions to "1984" are not really apt in this situation, in which the people who run the forum try to enforce the rules to which we've all agreed. I think allusions to "thought police" are really a bit of a stretch, even if they're intended to be humorous.

Prosit!

My previous messages on these issues have been mainly tongue in cheek and while I myself don't really believe there's an element of "1984" here, I do think there's a desire among the majority of member for any running feuds to cease in order for the rest of us to enjoy contributing to interesting threads.
I think its a good idea and shall sit back and watch with interest the new infraction system being applied in a fair and even handed manner, in order to ensure the trolls who persist in instigating regular and obvious inflamatory posts with the sole intention of stirring up trouble on this forum are, at long last, subjected to the same penalties as those who respond to such posts.

My personal opinion is that the tribunal of censors and rules of engagement are an over reaction to the few problems I have noted over the last couple of years. Is somebody worried about being sued ? My opinion only and it is TF's forum so they can do whatever rings their chimes.

Can I therefore assume that previous infractions are now NULL & VOID - and we start all over again with a clean slate?
Just one of those completely astonishing thoughts that occur to me on occasion.

Hmmmm.....so, can it be reasonably assumed that the next appearance before the Parole Board could be somewhat of a "trial" for the Parole Officer as well?

I posted a negative comment about someone in ebay, and the moderators of this forum took it out. I Understand. This is a place where People enjoy, commenting, and giving their opinion.
I am just glad to have found, and can post the opinions, of things that had come. And post hopeful wishes to the Gods in King And Country (MORE DD Armour Please):D. And to have some contact with fellow collectors. :)

A great idea to have the rules and penalties made clear to all as no member can then plead ignorance.

It's human nature to believe that others receive special treatment. However, I feel these new rules will allow greater harmony between members and in due course I hope we will only see the positive side of posts rather than assume a negative.

Well it is an old legal axiom that bad cases make bad law. It is also undeniable that stupid law suits make silly practices; peruse your vehicle owners manual if you need some examples. So you may well have a point.

Yo Troopers, UTOPIA never thought I would live to see this day:rolleyes:. We can now disband the Council Of Moderators with full Military honours, sorry guys you are redundant lol. I have been on the forum 16 months, and have never seen anything but a few dust ups (handbags at 10 paces) There must be some really highly strung people out there, you make a joke but it offends someone on a far distant land that doesn't understand what a joke is. Give you an example. I put up something like Scoucers were brought up with a sense of humour. Heid sent a PM thought you Scoucers were brought up to be Light fingered lol, (now thats funny) because Scousers have a reputation in the UK as being thieves, but were not we just recycle things:D lol. But make a joke on the forum like that and its deleted. So its going to be like "Grasshopper" from now on, we will have to learn how to walk on rice paper without breaking it lol. The funny part of these little minor dust ups that people complain about is, in the next breath they are talking about wars, slaughter of humans and loving it, because they think they are Dog Soldiers, killers etc. Doesn't add up to me.
Bernard.

Good points to me Benard. I certainly don't feel a need for the protection. Grasshopper indeed.:D:D

To be frank, the 'New' part of the infraction system is that it is now spelled out clearly. Moderators have already been using these standards to determine whether a post should be pulled or not.

If you have not had posts deleted in the past for inappropriate content you probably won't have to worry about this infraction system.

When those 'minor dust ups' occur, this simply gives the moderators the tools to appropriately deal with the situation before it pulls in a lot of other people and changes to tone of the forum.

To be honest I haven't read the rules with a lot of attention, sorry. I remember something about threadjacking, I promise to be careful on this one...;).
To me it's all about common sense and some flexibility, both from me, the other members and the moderators. A little argument seems valid, why not discuss different opinions and views, difference is part of the spice of life isn't it? The same with unoffensive jokes. I think everybody knows when things come down to offending others.
Anyway, I'd like to thank Shannon and Peter and the moderators for all this effort, I sincerely hope that members first of all use common sense: this is our forum, do you want to keep it or not? If you want to keep it, take care of it.

I know I could never be offended by that, 'cause I have no idea what a "Scouser" even is :)

Brad, I'm sure that Bernard can elaborate but basically...........Scouse is the accent and dialect of English found in the city of Liverpool whose Inhabitants are called Liverpudlians, but are more often described by the colloquialism Scousers.

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff!

"Liverpudlians" I'd heard, as an old Beatles fan, but never would have guessed "Scouse" in a million years. It looks too much like "souse", which you can get at the farmers' markets here, and is a great old Pennsylvania Dutch classic. Goes well with beer, just like ring bologna and cheese.

Prost!

But Bernard - I wasn't joking....
:D:D:D

But you're absolutely right. One minute the armchair Generals are scouting off about some of the most horrific history in the human race - then next minute they're foaming at the mouth because they either don't "get" a joke, or they can't "take" a joke.

What I will find interesting to see, if this will truly apply to Everyone. And if it does.................. ++++++++++.......... well.... we'll see.

First let me put your mind at rest..........

The infractions aren't just going to be given out without just cause, if Rob happens to call Tony a mars bar loving weirdo he isn't going to get an infraction SERIOUSLY !!!. There are a few more moderators helping on the forum so it should make it easier, many times Brad had to deal with things on his own and quickly to avoid and further bickering etc, and in my short time on the forum I think he has done a great job.
Instead of hanging us give us a chance and perhaps a little understanding whilst we find our feet. This thread has attracted a few gripes already. If you have a issue PM us instead of ranting on the forum or going off in a huff. We are here to help. Come on guys we are all adults here, you know what is right and what is wrong.

Yes, we shall indeed see if the penalties are truly applied to everyone on an equal basis. This is going to be interesting to observe, even it'll be with a slighty cynical expectation.
