New Infraction System (1 Viewer)

First let me put your mind at rest..........

The infractions aren't just going to be given out without just cause, if Rob happens to call Tony a mars bar loving weirdo he isn't going to get an infraction SERIOUSLY !!!. There are a few more moderators helping on the forum so it should make it easier, many times Brad had to deal with things on his own and quickly to avoid and further bickering etc, and in my short time on the forum I think he has done a great job.
Instead of hanging us give us a chance and perhaps a little understanding whilst we find our feet. This thread has attracted a few gripes already. If you have a issue PM us instead of ranting on the forum or going off in a huff. We are here to help. Come on guys we are all adults here, you know what is right and what is wrong.

Tony is a mate of mine and i would never dream of using such terms such as 'Mars Bar loving',weirdo yes but not 'Mars Bar loving';)

Can you please tell me which terms i must use regarding Tony in order to get an infraction, would the term 'Portsmouth City football club' followed by a stream of expletives do the job;):D

Rob

(If you are reading this Tony I hope Sue is stocking up on those mini Mars Bars and Bounty's.Myself and James like to have a breakfast of these before setting off on our voyage round the show!;))

No need for the string of expletives. Just the words 'Portsmouth City FC' will do. By the way are they not playing against Hartlepool next year? :D:D

On a serious note, I have thought about the infraction system for several days. I think it is a good idea. I would not belong to a Forum with flame wars or personal insults. But I have some reservations.

Being suspended for a single infraction seems unfair unless it is a serious one that is clearly a breech of the rules and some harm is possible. A misunderstanding or a joke in poor taste should not result in an infraction and a suspension - a warning would do.

As it is now, we are relying on the moderators judgement on minor offences. Hopefully a single moderator cannot make an infraction ruling by himself (including Shannon). Where there is an infraction, some details of what happened should by posted for the membership to see so that suspensions are in the open and not behind closed doors.

I believe the use of "Portsmouth City Football Club" actually carries a life time ban Rob. I'll check the rule book and get back to you on that though!!

If the reason for the infraction is cut and dried, then yes we will be able to make ruling. If there is an issue of a more serious nature or something of a grey nature then it will be discussed by the moderators and a decision will be made.

I think a golden rule is simply take a step back before you post,if you post something you think you may regret you probably will. It's happened to me before and I wished I not said some things,I now try and think hard before I start tapping the keys.

A suspension would equal a banning which takes over 50 infraction points so a single infraction would not be likely to bring on a ban.

If a person receives a single infraction point they have all their usual member privileges, their posts are just queued for moderation. This is in place to help people step back and cool off and also to diffuse angry arguements from further disrupting the discussion they erupted in.

Under our old system that was already set up with the software, banning was pretty much the only option when people broke the rules. We felt that more latitude should be given for exactly the reasons you stated above so we added the moderation and read-only infraction levels leaving banning for a rare third level. We are hoping that the new system effectively takes care of forum issues without having to use the banning infraction level.

Regards.

Sorry Shannon - I actually meant one infraction results in moderation. I was thinking how my very first posting was interpreted as trolling by a member when I inadvertently asked the wrong type of question in a Thread I started - Compare CS armour to K&C armour

I wonder if i could ask a question at this point?.If someone takes a thread way off subject and onto another, but the member who started the original thread does not mind,is this still a breach of the rules.I ask this because i have started threads before that have drifted into for instance History, other areas of Toy Soldier collecting or sometimes just humour riffing. If my original thread has at least been discussed i don't really mind too much if this then happens. I was just wondering if it depended on the attitude of the thread starter?.

I think all this sudden concern over thread highjacking is way over blown. Threads are a conversation and few are tightly focused (none here as I can tell:D). Drifting into related and sometimes even unrelated topics is a natural evolution and there is NOTHING wrong about it so long as it is not otherwise offensive as in a thinly disguised effort to start a fight with someone which is itself seperately offensive. I think the point that if you haven't had an infraction point before than you are not likely to have one now is the most helpful observation.;) Trust me Rob, you will be fine.;):D

Well don't you think it would depend on whether it was a response to a Gibson movie, not to mention how the rant was phrased?;):D
