new range? WWII? (3 Viewers)

Good luck with this new line, Matt! However, my heart and soldier budget will stay with the Napoleonics!

Also, other collectors may not share my opinion on these matters, but I like variety and unique styling in figures even within the same range. I won't always mix figures from different makers because often they just don't fit together, but the varieties of dioramas or just simple displays makes for a more interesting collection. Every manufacturer's figures and displays that can be achieved with these figures have their own merits. This forum has a lot of very interesting collections and creative displays. We should all be fortunate that so many types of figures are available to please just about every collector!

Thanks for your well considered post. I do understand what you're saying, I really do, and it would seem like sound advice - but for better or worse, we're not really looking to fill "niches" so we'll continue to do what we're doing and let the chips fall where they may.

One last point - the bases on the WWII figures aren't square/rectangular. We do rectangular bases for our Napoleonics because they're meant to be setup in close order formation in base to base contact. This doesn't apply to WWII of course, so the bases aren't rectangular. The bases are, however, quite beautiful in their own right. ;)

Matt

Matt, that's good news with the WWII bases. I appreciate the use of rectangular/square bases in eras where more formal ranks of similar poses are the norm but imo rounder bases are more suitable for less "informal" types of conflicts.

Btw, have you considered doing some Mounted WWII figures? I am still waiting for a TSC (I don't care which one) to produce Mounted Waffen SS Camouflaged Cavalry guys in around 1/30 scale ;)

Our range is obviously still in it's infancy (errr...still in the womb!?), but we have discussed the possibility of integrating some horses into it at some point. We haven't discussed anything as specific as Mounted SS Cavalry guys in Camo, but over time anything is certainly possible. First we need to get some basics covered of course. Personally, I like the use of horses in WWII displays because they were much more prevalent than is usually represented...they may not be as sexy as a Tiger (tank, not animal!), but only a few thousand Tigers were involved in WWII whereas I'm sure there will millions of horses!

Regards,

Matt

Horses, an interesting WWII topic.

Horses provided about 80% of the German Army's motive power during WWII.

The German Army used about 3,000,000 horses and mules between 1939 to 1945. More than 1,700,000 died in the war.

In the mud of the Soviet Union horses often proved superior to motor vehicles

I have several horses in my WWII (German) display and feel they provide a great deal of added interest as most people like horses to some degree. For example, I recently bought the Honour Bound Field Kitchen that comes with two horses, and a cat catching a chicken. The set looks a bit weird in photos but the model is AMAZING in the flesh and has really enhanced my K & C Normandy display.

I have to say that I was impressed with the FL horses, they are the best model Cavalry I've seen so far, so I do hope we see some First Legion WWII Horsies soon :D

That HB field kitchen is one of my favorite sets.

Nice one Frank, I scored the Summer version and have placed my set coming off the end of the K & C Pontoon Bridge. I will post some pics when I get the display finished, noting that I do shelf displays, so it may not be as impressive as the full on dioramas that many guys are getting into. I will do a dio one day

That is a pretty cool looking set. I like it when companies do things like this...

We will be producing some stuff like this for our Napoleonics range in the not too distant future as we have enough basic stuff released that we can venture off into some of the more exotic/one off diorama type pieces. Once we get to the same point with our WWII range, we hope to be able to do the same thing and provide some interesting pieces like this as well.

Matt,
I'd sure like to see you do some brochures as well, I like it as a way to track your history and/or legacy.

I have missed a lot of this thread as i had visitors yesterday, but i am really looking forward to seing whats coming from FL for WW2.Even If they don't fit with the rest of my collection I very much like the idea of producing both sides of the conflict FL are portraying, this does allow for seperate and yet complete stand alone scenes. This has worked for me before.I have a small collection of Figarti's V Weapon sets that sit aside from my main collection and it works very well for me.The same can be said of HB's recent FJ's,for me they don't fit with other producers figures but would look superb on their own.Whilst of course we'd all like our TS's to all fit together, if they don't it's not the end of the world(even for such an 'Obsessive compulsive'-thanks to my good lady for that description!;)-as I!)

I think collectors can only benefit from another producer of quality figures, many producers make WW2 Figures but I feel there is only a small handful of those that are realistic,so another is always welcome.Just my tuppence worth you understand.:)

Cool Matt,

I love to see a well conceived business plan, conviction and passion in it. My collection is about 95% WWII with about 80% in KC.

I can see with some certianly, you have my interested and wish you much success.

I'd like to throw my nickel into the ring. My guess is the battle of STALINGRAD and if that's the case it's long OVERDUE. Especially if it's the first half of the battle. Aug-Oct. 42. And if that's also the case I'm definitely on board. Many things needed like MGs/motars/Anti Tanks guns Etc.
Matt. I wish you all the best and am very excited about this new line.

Excellent and wise words Rob that we could all consider. I have many pieces that don't work together in a dio. I display them as they are and just appreciate them for what they are.

That will be cool to see for sure. Hopefully basic will include the Southwestern part of the wars.;):D

Myself, I've been holding off major purchases of WWII figures. I went for vehicles (HB) and dio-buildings (Figarti & KC ), waiting and waitng to make up my mind which way to go.

My mind is on FL for the major purchases now.

I'm hoping that if we just release enough great stuff for the NAPS beyond the penninsula intrigues, that you'll eventually take an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude!!! Short of that, I guess I'll owe you some green coated brits and possibly even some yellow coated spaniards at some point........;)

94 posts WOW....this will be an anxiously week for WE, WWII collectors.....:cool:

I think we are talking "short of that".:D Some how the term intrigues just doesn't seem to fit the quantity of blood spilled in that part of the wars. Don't forget the French Dragoons and some of the vital Exército Português under British Command, such as the Cacadore Riflemen.;) Wait, am I starting to sound like a [certain] WWII collector; I guess I am in the right thread afterall.:D

Hey - if you don't like "Intrigues", take it up with David Chandler as that is the heading of Chapter 7 (or 8?) in his authoritative work, "The Campaigns of Napoleon." Want to hear a VERY sad confession? I've read that literally 10 times and I've skipped that chapter 9 of them............that doesn't bode well for you. So we need to focus on the middle ground - figures that you can use on the penninsula and I can use elsewhere! Cuirassiers would probably be a good start I think.... :D

For what it's worth, yes you are sounding very reminscent of a certain collector. Of course, he didn't know we existed until about a day ago.
