New Releases for April 2018 - The Second World War (1 Viewer)

It appears that the wings can't be removed once they are inserted and the retention fork is engaged. Is that your take on that aspect of the model? It's a beauty, BTW. I do my find myself taken by it's size. It seems so much larger than 1/32 models!

I think that once the wings are attached to the fuselage it would take some effort or ingenuity to remove them. Of course I don't have any plans to do so. However, if it became necessary to repack the model in its original box this might be an issue. I think if you slide the wings as far off the retention fork as possible you could then use a needle nosed pliers to depress the fork enough to remove the wing. That would take some patience and care. It is a real beauty for sure and it is a BIG bird . . .

Envious, Mike, Envious ...:p

Mine are sitting waiting for final payment and then "PICKUP" {sm4}. Hopefully they will be accompanied by the three new USMC sets.
It will be a glorious day to say the least.

They look incredible.... congrats on a fantastic acquisition.

Thank you very much Larry. Sounds like you have a plan Larry that will reap big dividends when complete. Wishing you all the best in getting everything sooner rather than later . . .

Well USMC fighter squadron VMF-221 just landed on my USS Bunker Hill to a very much warm welcome. This is just a sneak peek at it. More pictures to follow as soon as I return from having a tooth that I broke last week crowned. The arrival of this Corsair takes a bit of the "sting" away from having to go to the Dentist this morning . . .

Mike,

That's a great setup! The plane seems magnificent and a must have for any Pacific theatre fan. That's a very pretty deck you've got there!

mestell,

Congratulation to you. You've just bought the most beautiful ww2 plane in 1/30 scale.

Congrats on a beautiful addition Mike. Very impressive. My model is enroute but not due to arrive until next week. BTW, I also had oral surgery to have an implant procedure done last week. {sm2} Been reading The First Team and the Guadalcanal Campaign in preparation, although that battle pre-dates the Corsair arrival.

Best regards, Chris

Thank so very much. JJD has done a marvelous job on everything from the deck, the figures, and obviously the Corsair.

Thank you Chris. You'll love yours when it lands at your location. The Navy version VF-84 #167 is in route to me . . . hope to have it next week. Going to the Dentist is a real trip isn't it. I hate to think of all the JJD sets I could have bought with what my crown cost. I have also had a implant procedure a few years ago so I know approximately what that set you back. Crazy expensive for sure . . . .

Just received my #167. don't want to belabor the discussion with repeated comments.
but had to say something. This model is an amazing piece of work! $288 is a steal!

exhaust stack detail alone is superb. in addition, you can see the engine cylinders behind the open cowl flaps! has gun sight? Not sure that showed up on proto pics. Hardware on landing gear mechanism, on and on...

I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this model. no point in building my own with this kind of product out there!
I want to know how long it takes these artists to make just one of these? let alone many?

This will occupy a very honored position in my collection. Dare I say this could supplant my WW1 aircraft collection, as my favorite! although having just one JJ Designs aircraft seems an impossible task!let along just one favorite.

And due to this tread, my two corsairs are in the mail!!!

My Navy Corsair #167 landed on my doorstep this afternoon. Unfortunately I am out of town and will have to wait until I get back home to open up its package. My son-in-law brought it in the house for me and is suggesting that he will open it up and allow my 7 year old grandson play with it . . . all in jest of course because he knows how excited I am in getting it. It will look great with my USMC Corsair #183 . . . .

I got the #167 Corsair several weeks ago and today finally sat down to open it up. What a wonderful model.
I much prefer the lighter materials, from lets say King and Country as it allows more versatility in terms of where and how you can display it.
The finish is outstanding and the way the pieces go together is just amazing. I had misunderstood some of the earlier posts in this thread and thought once the wings were deployed it might be hard to fold them up again, which is not the case.
Love the finish of all the parts. I will be setting it up with a 1/32 HM F6F on a shelf with some of the JJD BH deck crew and sailor figures...
Any ideas of what other WWII warbirds might be in the pipeline? If I had to choose, I would love to see a summer of 1944 Hawker Typhoon...

If there's an airplane that you're interested in seeing Jenkins do, I'd encourage you to contact him and make your pitch. He's a really nice guy, and is very open to suggestions. Even if nothing comes of it, you'll have made a new friend in the TS-biz.:)

I'd keep my eye peeled for an aircraft that fits John's WW2 US Navy theme. -- Al

Thought about your post last night while I was putting some things away. It occurred to me that I'd done some of the same things that you suggest above in one of my cabinets:

As you can see, it's awfully crowded in there. Gonna need additional storage soon!

Moe, that is what I call a case full of beautiful aircraft. Very, very nice display. -- Al

Outstanding display Moe! Looks fantastic! Live those SBD Dauntless.
