Al:

I hate to pile it on but everyone is right and then some. However, the only that I would add is that RG III is probably far down the list of The Skin's problems. It is always easy to blame the QB. I think their defense is atrocious. Kaepernick is not that good, the defense last night just made him look like the reincarnation of Steve Young. They can't stop the pass on any level, their open field tackling is decent at best and their blitz schemes are worthless. In other words, even if RG III was healthy and had a better supporting cast the 'Skins would still be losing except the score would be 42-35 every week.
I am not blaming the QB because it is easy but because he is not doing the job of a middle round rookie, much less a number 2 drafted 2nd year bloke with nearly 2 years experience at this point. The defense has many issues but as is often the case with poorly performing defenses, it is spending too much time on the field. If you watched all the games this season, which I unfortunately have, you would see they have done not too badly where the offense stays on the field and scores some points. In fact, in the early season, only the defense was scoring in the first half. Also, with the blocking the Niners have now, they can be a tough team to stop when they get rolling. Kaepernick is no Steve Young but he has flashes of brilliance and he showed some last night. Their play calling was also very effective. So I am sorry, RG3 can't duck the responsibility for this one. He may still be hearing footsteps from last season or still less than 100% or maybe exposed as a one dimensional QB but whatever, he is playing well below the level of the rest of the team and dragging them down to their level. When your supposed star is playing this badly, nothing is going to go that well. I hope the kid can find himself, here or elsewhere, but until the QB play gets better, the team is not going to win. It really is that simple.

I am not trying to deflect the blame off of RG III by any means. I am just pointing out that he is one of many problems. I am with you on his need to shoulder the blame as a second over-all pick. I also share your hope that he gets it together as he seems like a good young man with tons of potential.

I have not seen all of the 'Skins games but I have seen all of the Niner games as well as a few of their practices and their blocking is not that great unless they are playing a mediocre team (see their games against Seattle and Carolina) and their play calling is effective so long as they play against marginal defensive backs. When we do play teams with good DB's we tend to resort to using Gore but good teams are able to figure that out too. Kap has a long way to go in reading blitzes and his use of audibles is sub-par. He actually reminds me of RG III as his stats are extremely similar to Griffin's except we have the D to bail Kap out.

Al/Brad/George/Louis:

Didn't the Cowboys used to play the Redskins on Thanksgiving or am I thinking of another team?

among many other teams...it's a Cowboy's tradition started in 1966...they played last year...Washington won 38-31...

As an official geezer, I remember when the only NFL Turkey Day game was played by Detroit. The AFL started playing on T-day in 1960. The game that sticks out in my mind was the Eagles beating the Lions 12-0 on a flooded field in a pouring rain/sleet storm with 4 FG's. I swear I remember the field was all but underwater. That was in the late 60's. Just as a matter of interest, from 1951 through 1963, the T-day game was Detroit vs Green Bay before Detroit started playing other teams on a rotating basis. -- Al

They do have their similarities. Kap is noticeably more durable looking and seemingly smarter about taking hits. No doubt the stats for both this year are pretty bad for starting QBs on any team. The Skins have most of the personnel they need on defense but the weak spots do show up and depth is clearly an issue. Many have questioned whether they should be playing a 3-4 and their probable HoF middle linebacker is simply too long in the tooth this season. Most of their better CBs and safeties are rookies so at the moment they are still weak there. They are probably only 2-3 players short of a really good defense but for now, it is what it is. On offense, the biggest need beside composure and consistency at QB is the O-line but again 2 good additions would work wonders. They also need another receiver and a healthy Reed at TE. Another pass catching TE would also be a good addition. As an NFL commentator recently noted, they really aren't as bad as they have looked this year but again, the QB has to step up and show some of his potential. Now that their remaining season is nothing more than an experiment for the future, they should use it to confirm what they need for next year.

Great analysis. Also great point about using the rest of the season to experiment and see what they need. The Niners were in this same spot a few years ago, they were patient with their rookies, drafted well and signed the right free agents once they figured out their needs. There is no reason to believe that the 'Skins can't do the same.

Good win for the Ravens in what was a very evenly matched game. Total time of possession and total yards were almost even, as was the final score. The football gods do punish missed kicks on a regular basis. Good win, tough loss. -- Al

Ironically, in last Sunday's game at Baltimore, the Jets were hit with a penalty for doing that.

Somehow, someway, the Ravens are going to find a way to win that division aren't they?

Awesome....:rolleyes2:

And would someone tell Suggs to leave his helmet on, good God is he ugly, he's beyond ugly. If my dog had a face like his I'd shave his *** and teach him to walk backwards.

A face only a mother could love, or any woman as long as he had a ton of dough.

Uh, oh, when Sammy reads this, he will think you're picking on him {eek3}

No, I agree Suggs is a ugly fellow!! Voted by the raven players as the ugliest guy on the team a few years ago, but I'll take his ugly for his play all day...Sammy

Not even upset, Steelers don't flub a field goal, they win that game, only our own fault. Typical for this season. Hate to actually say this, but the worse record we have, better draft available and we need that more than squeaking into the playoffs.

Wonder if Smith will get a fine for hit on Bell at the goalline? He came in from the side and helmet to helmet. And by the way, what a stupid rule on the helmet coming off. Guy is in midair crossing the goaline but helmet flys off so play is dead in midair????? That is crap. End of the day, Sanders dropped a perfectly thrown 2pt conversion. Would have been real interesting had he caught that.

End of the day, good game, but not surprising for this Steelers fan, we need a wholesale change offseason.
