Pete vs Harblow this weekend should be something to behold. They hated each other from back in the USC-Stanford days when Harblow ran the score up. Harblow is probably the most unlikeable coach in all sports, but the man fields a winning football team. He is the poster boy for nice guys finish last.

He's going to have a meltdown one of these days that will be epic; him trying to demonstrate to the refs the roughing the passer call in that game was due to Newton spinning away from one defender and running helmet to helmet into the other is classic.

That said, that was a horrible, horrible call, not every helmet to helmet hit is legit, but they are going to call it every time apparently.

It was a horrible call. The wussification of the NFL continues unabated. -- Al

Not to mention Denver continually runs pick plays with their receivers, they do it all the time, this is the same team that perfected the art of cut blocking where one lineman would engage a defender and the second lineman would cut him at the knees, nice.

They did call Welker for one penalty on Sunday, but they need to call it more often.

All I ask is the refs keep the hankies in their pockets for both games, let the teams decide the games, don't let some horse@##$ 35 yard defensive pass interference call change the outcome of a game and gift wrap a trip to the super bowl for one team, make the teams who get there earn it on the field.

These match-ups are some of the best I can remember of late. Going to be really interesting to see if NE's running game can keep Manning off the field. I'm betting it does, considering the Broncos defense is a defense in name only. Can't help but think that the smash-mouth approach is the way to beat the SuperManning pass offense. At any rate, I think this is the game where Denver's defense, or lack thereof, comes back to bite them. As far as the other game, it is a harder call for me. Seattle has a great defense, but 49er's are on a roll. That game has the smell of a 'one break decides the game' type to me. -- Al

Time for weekend picks, I was 2-2 last week, I will give the 49ers a close win, also have the Broncos whipping the Chargers, the Pats knock off the Colts in their regular playoff fashion, and the Seahawks beat the Saints in a close one, love this weekend!!...Sammy
That was the easiest picks all season 4-0, no lightning in the bottle, Cinderella teams this year, top 4 teams all there,I believe the Broncos win in the final minutes with a last second drive by Manning for a field goal for a win, the 49' ers win a close one in Seattle as the 49'ers have the defense and have been there last year...Sammy

And it goes from bad to worse for Denver; Harris, their best corner, is out with a torn ACL, you're up Jammer, the same Jammer who once he entered the game on Sunday, Rivers and the SD passing attack came to life.

As the resident Niner fan on here I have made my Harbaugh feelings clear so I will not revisit them.

As far as the helmet to helmet stuff? I think you are right, it is going to be called every time now, with no gray area or quarter given to the defender. This is the new NFL, you can lose games now because you play too rough.

well at least we don't have to watch Baltimore play in the super bowl :redface2:

Denver is in trouble, they are short on DB's and can't stop the run. It could be a shoot out but even then I think New England wins.

I am thinking it will be the Niners providing the action and the win in this year's Superbowl. {sm4}
Good luck to your 49'ers Jason, there is nothing like pulling for your home town to make it to the Superbowl, last years Raven team I will always remember and the run they went on to win, it's a hard job to get in the playoffs let alone back to the Superbowl, so good luck to you, George, and any Broncos, Seahawks fans...Sammy

Nope, there sure isn't, nothing quite like it in sports, third year in a row the Patriots have gone to the AFCCG, tenth one I've seen so far in my lifetime as a Patriots fan, 7-2 so far, the experts are lining up and most are picking Denver.

Whatever happens, it's been a great season, we'll see what Sunday brings, can't wait, myself and about 25 other folks will get together to find out..........

George:

Great post.

Here's hoping that you and I face-off via the Niners and Patriots on Superbowl Sunday. If it so happens that my Niners don't get there but the Patriots do, rest assured that I will be pulling for you.

That would be great and likewise, if the Patriots don't make it and the 49er's do, I'll be pulling for you as well.

Pretty sure San Francisco has been to ten NFCCG's as well, maybe more?

Sorry, but if it's Denver/Seattle, I won't watch, but I will hope for a blizzard on game day................

Understood, maybe the wind died down in the 4th quarter as they were whipping the ball all over the place on the Denver defense.

Denver opened at -7.5 already; wow, give me the Patriots and those points all day long and twice on Sunday, we'll see if the line moves as I think it will, people will be betting big on New England, even my Dad's Patriots hater neighbor will lay big money with New England.

What a piece of work that guy is; whenever the Patriots lose, he's always out in his driveway when visit my parents during the week so he can break my stones, yet when they win, he's nowhere to be found............funny how that works.

it's already moved to Denver -4 1/2...
