Not really a shock...I know you are only joking....I did not think that Tebow would play for the Patriots........Maybe someone else will pick him up but at this time it will be difficult....Maybe he should do what Doug Flutie did and go to the CFL for 3-4 years, hone his skills as a starting QB and then try for a comeback to the NFL. He's a great guy and I'm sure the Lord has a path for his life which is more important then just throwing a football. I wish him well.
The CFL sounds like a legitimate option. Hadn't thought of that. -- Al

Game Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finally, I knew when the schedule was about to come out we would be playing either the Pats/Broncos first game, (sadly it's not in Baltimore) but glad to see it's finally here!! so let's here some picks ontonites game.

Ravens 27
Broncos 23

picking with my heart here, I don't exspect J. Jones to catch another 70 yard bomb to win it this time, but sure would be nice:) I do believe if the new look Raven defense can hold thier own against Manning we have a chance to win, can't wait come on kick off!!!!...Sammy

Sammy:

A tough loss for sure but I do not think that this game was a true indicator of this team. In my mind they are still a contender.

Plus, hats off to Joe Flacco. He stood tall at the post-game press conference, didn't throw anyone under the bus and answered the questions honestly and calmly. Anyone can answer questions when you win, very few handle it well after a loss, but Flacco showed once again why he is a leader by taking the loss well and looking for some positives.

I watched bits and pieces of this game last night, was preoccupied with the Sox/MFY's game.

Watching this opener was like watching combat on the Eastern Front and trying to decide who I wanted to win, the Germans or the Russians, it was annoying when either team scored for me.

Welker, the muffed punt aside, is going to be a huge addition to Denver as he works the short routes, has a nose for the first down marker and is as sure handed as they come, unless it's the Super Bowl and all you need to do is make a catch to clinch the game.

And speaking of the Super Bowl, last night Flacco went back to pass in the end zone, felt some pressure and threw the ball nine miles out of bounds; shouldn't that be a safety like it was when Brady did it in the Super Bowl?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

The highlight of the game was when Flacco threw that room service int that got ran back for a TD and the linebacker for Denver started to Cadillac his way into the end zone and dropped the ball before crossing the goal line; no TD, Ravens recovered the ball in the end zone.

What a moron.

The great Jim Brown used to hand the ball to the ref and is famous for saying "When you score a touchdown, act like you've been there before."

If Denver comes up with a halfway decent running game, they are by far the team to beat in the AFC.

There's a possibility that Baltimore might want to address it's pass defense issues, unless Peyton throwing for 462 yards and 7 (as in SEVEN-7-VII) Td's doesn't concern them.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Denver didn't even score in the first quarter. So that's 7 TDs in three quarters. Not a good sign for the defending champs.

There is the distinct and scary possibility (or probability) that the Baltimore defense wasn't the problem as much as Manning was the reason. He is just so good when he gets in a groove and it looked to me like he is back to full strength and ability. He now seems to have the Denver offense all on the same page and I think this spells nothing but trouble for a lot of defenses this season. -- Al

If he gets to and wins another Super Bowl, in my mind he's the greatest of all time.

To be playing at the level he's playing at after almost retiring due to his neck issues and at his age, he's better than Brady if he wins another Super Bowl.

Brady has won three Super Bowls, but has lost his last two and played badly in both, plus he's 7-6 in his last 13 playoff games, including two one and outs, two Super Bowl losses and two AFCCG losses.

Payton is incredible, my hat is off to him, they are the team to beat in the AFC.

George,

Peyton Manning is great, as is Brady, but I don't think either of them can legitimately lay claim to the best of all time. Joe Montana won four super bowls, in an era of much more favorable rules for pass defenses, and, frankly, much better teams (the 49ers (4), Giants (2), Red Skins (2), Raiders (2) and Bears (1) of the 1980's all were much better than the teams winning super bowls today). Historically, Otto Graham, who played 10 seasons, led the Browns to 9 Championship games and 7 titles. For me, these players have a far more legitimate claim to the title greatest of all time than todays QB's, who play in a league where receivers can cross the middle with impunity, and you get a 15 yard penalty if you look at a QB the wrong way.

Let's just listen to all the media and cancel the next 15 weeks of the season, no wild card, divisional round, championship titles, no Super Bowl and let's just give the title to the 2013 Broncos, give me a flipping break, yea the Broncos won big, also got some decent breaks in there as well, (dropped pass in first drive of 3rd quarter no call) but that really didn't lose the game for my Ravens, playing terrible defense did, put the offense in a got to throw every down and it was all down hill from there, our defensive backfield will improve, they took thier lumps tonite but as good as the Ravens played the first half they just sucked in the second half, calling it like I see it, but you know what?? there was a stretch of 3-4 games (including the broncos in Baltimore) last year that we sucked, I didn't expect to win all 16 games, and in reality I had a bad feeling about this one when it came out to be played in Denver for the opener, but one game is one game, the Ravens have 2 home games coming up and just need to get back to playing 2 good halfs of football instead of just one, no need to push the panic button, but maybe push the let's play better next week button for sure...Sammy

Sorry George, disagree wayyyy to much on this one, as Brady was just a play away or two from being 5-0 (thank the other Manning here) Payton has done a ton of great things, winning in the playoffs isn't one of them, his track record come late december/Jan. isn't very good at all, yea Brady has some Bumpy games as well, but if I'm picking one to play for my team in the Playoffs??? give me Brady every time, or Montana, Unitas, hell even Flacco has the same number of rings as P. Manning!!:) again another great start to his regular season stats last nite, but let's see where he is at come mid/late January...Sammy

Louis,
I just think it's remarkable that he's performing at such a high level at his age, he's 38 and is a top 5 QB in todays NFL, that's incredible considering he almost retired after two neck surgeries.

He shredded the Ravens last night, SEVEN touchdown passes and 400 plus yards.

Granted, the Ravens defense is shell of it's former self, they lost what, four starters and two of them are first ballot HOF guys, but still, a remarkable performance by Manning.

Well on a positive note, the final score should have been 56-20 had it not been for that boneheaded "drop the ball before crossing the goal line styling pose" as 7 came off the board and Flacco marched the Ravens down the field and scored a TD, so that's a 14 point swing.

So hang your hat on that.

Not hanging my hat on any of it, we sucked last night and it showed, my thought was one game doesn't make a season, if the score was 99-0 or 38-35 it's still a loss in the column, not to many style points for winning or losing these days, but just to get a win in the NFL is tough every week...Sammy

The baseball, hockey and basketball playoffs are for the most part a grind, you play numerous 7 game series to advance and get to the championship, 99% of the time, the two best teams get there and face each other.

As football has proved the last 10 years or so, the main goal in football is to survive the season with as few injuries as possible and get to the tournament as Bill Parcells likes to call it.

Stay healthy, get lucky, catch a break like a punt bouncing off of a guys knee, a safety blowing coverage on a 70 yard prayer, have the other teams QB or other key player go down to an injury, a fumble or interception at the worst possible time, a kickoff returned for a touchdown and bingo, presto, changeo, next thing you know you're hoisting the trophy and you're the champion.

To put any team into the Super Bowl after one week of play or in this case, after the very first game naturally is idiotic.

All that matters is getting lucky for a couple of games in the playoffs as in today's NFL, it's no longer about being the best team.

It's only one game but, as predicted, they will have a tough time making the playoffs. If you just look at offense, they lost Boldin and Pitta. That is hard to make up.

George,

I can't disagree with anything you are saying, and like Brady, he is clearly a first ballot hall of famer, but I would go with Montana/Graham/Unitas over both of them.

Great trio, Louis. I would add one more. Although I hate the Green Bay Packers, especially the 60's era team, I would put Bart Starr in the mix. Like Graham, he was not spectacular, but he didn't make mistakes and all he did was win. -- Al

Peyton Manning 7 touchdown passes was an amazing performance....The last guy to do that was leader of the Purple Gang in 1969 Injun Joe Kapp..LOL LOL LOL .....But Manning threw for 400 yds and his passes were spirals....so I guess you would have to say he is a better QB then Kapp:wink2:

Interesting fact. Kapp threw those 7 Td's against the Colts and only threw a total of 19 Td passes in '69, and 40 in his career, so you could say Kapp's performance was a little out of character. Still how weird is it that both the last 7 Td performances were against teams from Baltimore?{eek3} -- Al
