Interesting fact. Kapp threw those 7 Td's against the Colts and only threw a total of 19 Td passes in '69, and 40 in his career, so you could say Kapp's performance was a little out of character. Still how weird is it that both the last 7 Td performances were against teams from Baltimore?{eek3} -- Al

Those are indeed interesting coincidental facts....That '69 Minnesota Viking team was all defense little or no offense....That Viking defense scored more then the offense at times:wink2: ...I believe the purple gang gave up only 144 pts in a 14 game NFL season (still a record)....The '69 KC chiefs gave up only 188 pts in the AFL, whose teams had more potent offense..... It was an era of defense and running the ball.....Its a completely different game today. Vince Lombardi's power sweep could never work today the play takes too long to develop with today's athletes.....I am still a fan of ball control teams who able run the ball inside the tackles although they are far and in between these days.....I'm not a fan of 40+ passing attempts per game but that's football today.

Loved those late 60's/mid 70's Vikings, the Purple People Eaters, played outdoors in MN in the wind, cold and the snow.

My Dad was a huge Colts fan, I was a huge Vikings fan, back to back nutpunch losses in the Super Bowl to the Jets and the Chiefs.

Funny how neither winner has had a sniff of the Super Bowl since.

And yes, this pass happy NFL is for the birds, you can't touch the WR's or the QB like Louis said.

It's a step above Arena League football at this point.

I also appreciate the old NFL style football, both offensive and defensive, played in real life, outdoor conditions. It's a different game today and I know all the offense is good for ratings, but I still appreciate an old time running game against a tough defense. Give me a 4-3 defense and a 3 back backfield with the Qb under center where he belongs, (I believe history books called it a T formation). At least Navy knows how to run a football. :wink2:^&grin -- Al

At work but just caught up on some scores. Wow the steelers lose at home to the titans, bengals lose as well, looks like the pats barely got by the bills, and the great, awesome, Seahawks just barely got a win, hey but that's all that matters is a win these days. Hope to make it home for afternoon games...sammy

In today's watered down NFL, there are no more two a days in camp, barely any contact in camp, plus the starters basically sit out the preseason, the only game they really get involved in is the third one.

Today was sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

But, a win is a win, the goal is to win as many as you can, no points for style.

Patriots are 1-0 and have first place AFC showdown Thursday night vs the Jets.

Hardly a showdown but hey, a win is a win, especially because there may not be too many this year.

As a Vikings fan I came into the season expecting Ponder to be terrible and Peterson to be closer to human. So far, I'm 2-0.

Could the Lions do any more to try to had the Vikes the game with stupid plays?? Good for them they were playing an awful team.

Time to plan for a new quarterback of the future.

Guys, Sorry to interrrupt the current NFL discussion......Correction: In 1969 Minnesota Vikings Defense allowed only 133pts in a 14 game schedule.....That's an average of 9.5 pts per game....Still an NFL record.

Hey look at the bright side there Sammy; your Ravens are currently in a four way tie for first in the AFC North.

Great back and forth game right now with my Niners taking on the Packers.

I fully realize it's only week one, but watching these two teams play, they are light years ahead of anybody in the AFC, how the 49er's lost the NFCCG two years ago and the Super Bowl last year is beyond my comprehension.

Trying to play defense vs Copernicus and the 49er's is a nightmare.

And my God, Boldin is a beast, what's he got, 15 catches and 200 yards already and there's still over 20 minutes left to play; what on earth were the Ravens thinking trading this guy away?

Earl Campbell was a beast. Redskins had a good one in John Riggins but the best of them all was Jim Brown. Thought the best halfback I ever saw was Gale Sayers. The Vikes had a pretty good fullback by the name of Bill Brown and also Chuck Foreman who was a terrific runner and an excellent receiver. Don't want to forget Larry Csonka. There were some pretty good runners back before the NFL decided footballs should only be advanced via air.:rolleyes2: -- Al

If Rex keeps winning games, he'll get fired; he must not have gotten the memo where he was told to tank the season so they could get Clowney, every win and they're blowing a shot to get him.

The Jets can't even go in the tank correctly.

George:

It will take a team like Seattle (gulp) to stop Copernicus (lol). You need a ton of defensive team speed to stop him and there are very few teams in the NFL that have that. In the Super Bowl Baltimore was able to scheme and set up just right against him, but again you need the right personnel to able to do that. The scary thing for me is that he is one hit away from getting wiped out, be it a knee or his head. Chances are it will not happen, but I hold my breath every time he scrambles.

I can’t figure out the whole Boldin thing either? Maybe Sammy knows a few more of the details as to why Baltimore let him go?

What a crappy day in Steel Town. Geez, here is a shocker, a Steeler loss that includes yet more key injuries. This guy Haley is a curse, like an albatross hanging around our necks. He shows up and in 2 seasons more key injuries than in the last 5. I know Ben gets hurt every year, but my god, how many first teamers will we lose.

TO top it off, the Pirates stunk it up all weekend in St. Louis, now a game point five off the lead.

K-RIIST.

Agreed, you have to match speed with speed.

The Boldin thing was a wink/wink between brothers, no other explanation for it.

He wasn't a free agent, but because the backed a truck full of money to Flacco, they had to dump salaries to get under cap, so bye bye Boldin for a sixth rounder, what a farce.

They should make prisoners watch this Giants/Cowboys game on a continuous loop; 15 minutes in, four turnovers, 6 points scored. Giants get a first and goal on the one inch line after a 90 yard INT that should have been a PIC 6 and come away with 3 points.

U-G-L-Y.
