Just reading reports that Peyton Manning apparently has played the last month with a torn right quadriceps muscle. That could go a long way to explaining why his passes looked so feeble during that time. I'll bet he comes back next year since his performance was a physical and not an age issue. -- Al

Al:

I watched him play the Raiders on December 30 and he did not look right. I thought it was his age catching up to him but apparently he sustained the injury on the December 14 against San Diego. They lost to the Bengals the week after and proably would have lost on the 30th if they had been playing anyone decent (meaning anyone besides Oakland).

Jason, it would certainly explain the dying duck aspect to his passes and the offensive problems the Broncos exhibited the last few weeks. It is also indicative of a 38 year old body protesting the demands pro football put upon it. Things just go wrong with the body at that age that would not necessarily have gone wrong a few years earlier. -- Al

Al...seems like I read somewhere that players must disclose injuries to the league office...and if caught hiding them...were subject to a fine...

I know it sounds weird...

why expose your weakness...

but I'm pretty sure that's what I read as it was pertaining to Romo a few weeks back...

can anybody expand on this?

Mike-

Nothing tops the NHL and its playoff injury reports. It is either an upper body or lower body injury.

Mike, that's a good point and something I had forgotten. I thought injuries had to be reported too. The article I read explained that Manning went to great lengths to hide the injury from everyone and that very few people were in the know. I have no answer. Interesting to see how this plays out. How the heck are the NFL/bookies supposed to set correct lines/odds if they don't have all the info?:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al....ahhh...hahaha....yes...I'm sure that is the reason why...^&grin

I believe it was Al Michaels that was admonished by the League for making a comment at the end of a game on a play that influenced the betting line outcome...

I think the NFL broadcasting policy is to choose to ignore the existence of it...^&grin

Teams are supposed to make full disclosure of all injuries, probably for the bookies {eek3}

I believe they can be fined if they're not forthcoming. I assume a player can be fined if he hides it from a team but I don't know the answer.

the only reason I can fathom on why injuries must be disclosed...

is their implications in making a trade for an injured player...

nobody wants to trade for a "pig in a poke" with a hidden bum knee or other ailment that would hinder his ability...

but I'm sure all teams put any possible trade prospects through their own strenuous physical to evaluate their health...

Heard part of ol rexy Ryan's speech today...unreal, you figured that moron put a big enough target on his head the last time he started with a new team and promised a bunch of this and that, dude just doesn't get it, how about instillling confidence on the field with the team instead of running your mouth non stop before even one snap of the new season, but that's his thing, just sems like a few weeks ago he was almost in tears at the podium that he couldn't believe how bad his team was, that's right, it was a few weeks ago:)...Sammy

Sammy...

he's still head hunting New England and Belichick...

Under Idzik, Rex was on a leash. He's now been unleashed. Same old Rex.

I'm very happy with our new Coach, Todd Bowles. I think he will be a good one.

That's the ironic part, Belichick would have no problem if he never had to speak to the media, where as ol sexy Rexy lives for his sound bites, and ridiculous predictions, he really must feel like a idiot making that track across the field after another loss to Bill and co. year after year with all his empty promises...Sammy

Bowles is a strait up, no non-sense, stand up guy and think the Jets will do well under him, I know there were a few teams try to get him on board...Sammy

Niners and Raiders also got new coaches today.

Del Rio is a great fit in Oakland. I am not sold on to Tomsula for the Niners but I am wiling to see what he can do before passing judgment.

Well, I'm in on this one, two tickets 22 rows up from the field on about the 40 yard line, Patriots side of the field.

Never know in sports, this could be the last home championship game ever as there are no guarantees, so sometimes, you have to do what you have to do.....................
