Hey George

Enjoy the win bro. It was a wild one for sure. I'm not sure Revis deserved the razzing Sherman was giving him, I just think the Seahawk receiver should be a lot of credit for playing really smart and using the ref to pick Revis off him. It was plain as day the ref was in the way and there was some collision.

Have to scratch your head on that last play call. Still, Carroll is a tremendously talented coach and Seattle will be competitive again next year.

I was sitting around after the game just thinking of all the receivers Brady has hit over the years. It really is quite a roster. Not sure anyone can ever be completely defined as the best at their position but Brady has to be up therein the top 3 or 5. Just so many qualitative things to look at and just so judgemental.

So, after a year with Ray Rice beatings, deflatgate, Manziel drafting etc etc it was a really enjoyable game. I watched the UFC fight the night before and it didnt even compare to the SB for entertainment. NFL pulled it out this year.

I doubt Pete had anything to do with the play call. He might have veto power as the head coach, but leaves the O basically to his offensive coordinator. He is a defensive coach. It was a dumb call in retrospect because it didn't work. But with only one TO if you run the ball as the defense was expecting and get stuffed it is now third down with less than 20 seconds to go and no time outs. No room for error. You can't spike the ball to stop the clock on 4th down if the QB gets sacked or you don't make it in on third down. The problem with the pass is that you have to sell the play action to Lynch and make the D bite on the expected run to open it up for the receiver. Be patient. Someone is wide open if Wilson does that instead of throwing a quick slant to the inside. A bigger risk than the INT in that situation is picking up a holding call or sack which moves you back from the one. Sometimes players make plays and that is what happened. If the play works, then Pete is a genius. If it doesn't, then it's the worst call in history. With all the injuries to the D, Seattle played a heck of a game just to be in a position to win. In fact, the Pats looked as though they gave up after that miracle catch. They let the clock run down. Lynch takes the ball to the one. They were toast.

I think they had 34 seconds and one timeout left...I may be wrong...but I'm pretty sure...

They had one timeout left, which makes the call "the worst call in the history of sports," as labeled by Mike Francesa of WFAN earlier this afternoon. Francesa mentioned that of the three people involved in the call -- the Offensive Coordinator, the Head Coach and the QB -- none of them thought to say, "hey wait a second, let's think this through." It was a complete failure of clear and logical thinking. This is not to say that Seattle would have won the game but the decisions that were made were poor.

Had Lynch or Wilson been stopped on 2nd Down, you can call your last time out and decide what to do then. The play called was a play that you might have expected to see on 4th Down. Just a terrible call in all respects.

As Francesa said, Pete decided that he had enough titles and decided he would give Bill an extra one.

when Sherman did that...2.....4....with his fingers...

I thought he was referring to the score...

Seattle had 24 points at the time...

I don't thin he was taunting Revis...

Yeah, I'm sure he was.

Because that's how he rolls.

I think he was taunting him because ever since Sherman came into the league the two of them have been going back and forth as to who is the best corner in the NFL. Until Reavis had surgery, it was neck and neck. I'd say Sherman is the best now but I heard and read that Sherman may need Tommy John surgery so that will set him back.

He could be a hot commodity unless the Patriots sign him. Apparently, the Bills and Jets are interested in him and if he's available who know who else.

The famous play at the end for the Seahawks
it's the first time it's intercepted in 109 time they called it

Brady and the boys YES

Do u guys think Sherman was taunting Revis
No way
Sherman woul'n do that, right
HELLO

I know NE fans aren't' going to want to hear this and the Pats played great and all that but that game is going to be known as the one that Seahawks gave away. Yes, the Pats won it and it will go down that way in the record books but the Seahawks gave it away, almost in the same sense that the Packers gave it away two weeks ago, but not nearly as bad.

Brad:

I am afraid you are right. Listening to sports talk all morning has proven that. I have heard practically no mention of the Patriots and their performance, it has all been about that play call. Even when callers attempt to steer away from it, the host(s) bring the discussion right back to that play.

Jason,

This afternoon, that is all people are practically talking about on the radio: the call. There have been a few calls about Brady's game and he had one heck of a game, and a couple on Edelman. However, 99% is on the call.

Brad

An interesting observation here :rolleyes2:...... but there is little, if any, of the tremendous amount of credit that should be awarded to Butler appearing on this thread or anywhere.

He was playing one-on-one deep in the end zone. He had to read the defense and make a quick adjustment to get to the ball, and then use his physical strength to wrestle the ball away (as well as the presence of mind to intercept and not bat it away) from the receiver.

He didn't just have the ball flop into his hands!!!!

Let's give a heapin' helpin' of football credit to Butler for a heads-up, well executed and gutsy play.

well...talk radio...the tv media...the newspapers sports section...even ESPN can say whatever they want...

but I think it's hard to place the blame of a loss on one play...even one as stupid and as critical as this one...

Larry is right...

the fact remains...

NE won the Super Bowl and has the trophy to prove it...so hats off to them...

Good point. NE had the lead. The pressure was on Seattle to take the lead away and they couldn't do it. Stupid call though it was, it was NE's game to lose and they didn't. Don't forget, NE trailed by 10 in the 4th. They took the game from Seattle and earned the win. Can't assume anything until the points are on the board and the final gun sounds. -- Al

Normally, I'd agree but this was the one play on which the game turned. This is not to say that New England would have lost the game but Seattle lost game on this play. You can dress it up anyway you want but that's the way it turned out. New England expected to take the field again; that's the reason Belichick was conserving his two timeouts.

It's the single worst play in the history of the NFL hands-down.

It's the first time a team come from 10 points down
in the 4th quarter and win the super bowl
Madden was right in his prediction

I can see your point...it was "the critical play" of the game...a horrible call by Carroll...but a win is a win...

I thought Belichick would have let them score uncontested and have the last 1/2 minute and his timeouts for Brady to drive for a possible field goal for an overtime chance...

but again...the bottom line is NE fought all year to get there and walked away with the rings...

No doubt about it; they won it and Brady sliced and diced that defense. Perhaps injuries to the Seattle secondary played a factor; having a lumbering LB on Gronkowski is not a recipe for success.

There was some talk today about NE letting them score but the counter argument was that Belichick tried that against the Giants and it didn't work. Moreover, who's to say that Seattle would have scored. It's just the choice of play that is very questionable.

The emphasis continues to be "The Call" and it should be, but a couple of things to consider.

Patriots were down 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter; they are the first team in Super Bowl history to come back down 10 or more points entering the 4th quarter.

They are the youngest team ever to win a Super Bowl, average age 25.2 years old.

Brady shredded "The Legion of Boom" for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns, he set a record for most passing attempts in a Super Bowl.

Seattle hadn't allowed 14 points in the second half of the last 9 games combined; they allowed 14 in 1 quarter vs New England.

One thing I was happy to see yesterday was the refs kept the flags in their pockets for most of the game, a couple of non calls vs both teams, but they let them play, which was good to see considering how flag happy the refs have been all year.

Can't wait to watch "America's Team the 2014 New England Patriots" and the Super Bowl 49 highlights. I love those America's team shows and there are four I haven't and never will watch, the 2007 Giants, 2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens and 2013 Seahawks.

Ok, had time to soak in the game and this thread...............WOW.

Couple of comments:

1. Sherman was taunting Revis and it was BS, the receiver used the ref as a pick and beat Revis. ONLY TIME IN THE GAME he got beat. Guy is still great. Sherman is pretty darn good too, but NEITHER is Deion Sanders, who love him or hate him was the best cover corner to ever play the game and this coming from a Mel Blount fanatical fan!

2. Brady deserves a ton of credit - Legion of Boom was ailing, but he played pretty well, had a few DOH! moments but other than that, he was the winner last night.

3. Pete Carroll - DA of the year, the call was awful and he is responsible for it. Reminds me of Jim Harbaugh of running 4 goal plays and not running Kapernick once against the Ravens in the Super Bowl. STUPID. Regardless if it would have worked or not, running the ball was the right call.

4. Deflate Gate - WHO CARES??? The Patriots were so much better than the Dolts, it is a non issue. Patriots could have used Lead Balloons and won that game. Additionally, there is now conflicting reports about how many and how badly underinflated the balls actually were. Again, a non issue.

5. Finally, Russell Wilson's clock management at the end was off, he seemed out of synch until the luckiest catch I have ever seen. You have to feel good for Butler, he is the corner who seemingly made a great play on the miracle catch. Then he comes back and redeems himself with a great interception.

End of day, great game, either team played well enough to win, it was just that close.
