Nfl 2014 (2 Viewers)

One thing I was happy to see yesterday was the refs kept the flags in their pockets for most of the game, a couple of non calls vs both teams, but they let them play, which was good to see considering how flag happy the refs have been all year.

Cant possibly agree more with this. It has been a nuisance distraction this entire season, twice as bad during the post season.

Couple of interesting articles in today's Times:

Carroll's decision, analyzed by a Professor of Game Theory

The Fumble. Another infamous poor decision. In 1978 Joe Pisarcik, the Giants QB, handed off the ball to Larry Csonka on the last play of a meaningless game. The ball was fumbled, Herman Edwards of the Eagles scooped it up and scored and the Giants lost. The focus of the article, Bob Gibson, the Offensive Coordinator, was fired and never worked in football again.

The Fumble had beneficial results actually. Giant fans hired an airplane to fly a banner over Giants Stadium reading "20 Years of Lousy Football, We've had Enough." The Giants owners, the brothers Mara were feuding and as a result of the Fumble and the banner, Pete Rozelle decided it wasn't good for business to have a perennially losing Giants franchise and forced them to agree to hire George Young as GM. The rest is history as Young built the team that led to two SB titles, whose staff included Tom Coughlan.

The geniuses at ESPN were trying to make a comparison between the Super Bowl and a play from Carroll's USC team in the 2006 Rose Bowl. Of course in the Rose Bowl, Carroll did exactly what he is being criticized for not doing in the Super Bowl which was call a run to his powerback that promptly got stuffed. The criticism in 2006 was that it was too predictable. Didn't he realize that is exactly what the defense expected? LOL. A bad play call is one that doesn't work. If Seattle had scored the go ahead TD on that pass, we would be discussing why BB didn't call a timeout to give Brady a shot to put them in FG range etc. It's a neverending cycle of what ifs. btw: I read that was the only INT thrown from the one-yard line this entire season in over 100+ attempts.

Reavis has reportedly said that if Pats don't pick up his option he'd love to come back to New York. He didn't say Jets mind you. $20 mill is a big price tag. I can't see Bellichick anteing up that kind of money.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, guess if he said that, he's as good as gone now.......:rolleyes2:

He finally got his ring; why not stay here, take less money, build his legacy and be in a good position to get more rings.

So he'd take more money to play with fatso in Buffalo?

Mercenary.

If it were me, I'd stay where I am. However, having seen how he dealt with the Jets, it's all about the money with him. I suppose in a way you can't blame him as you never know when your career (in a league where the average length is around three years) will last.

Odds are out already for next year; Seattle is 6-1 to win the Super Bowl, Patriots are 7-1.

I don't get this one at all; Denver is 8-1 while Baltimore is 30-1? That makes no sense to me at all.

The Ravens IMO are the second best team in the AFC, they give the Patriots match up nightmares, the Patriots were down by 14 points twice to them in the playoff game, biggest deficit during their Super Bowl run.

I have no doubt that if the Ravens had held on to either lead, they would have trucked the Colts and beaten the Seahawks, would have been two Super Bowl wins in three years.

But they gagged away two leads and the Patriots went on to win their fourth in fourteen years, so there you go.

The emphasis continues to be "The Call" and it should be, but a couple of things to consider.

Patriots were down 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter; they are the first team in Super Bowl history to come back down 10 or more points entering the 4th quarter.

They are the youngest team ever to win a Super Bowl, average age 25.2 years old.

Brady shredded "The Legion of Boom" for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns, he set a record for most passing attempts in a Super Bowl.

Seattle hadn't allowed 14 points in the second half of the last 9 games combined; they allowed 14 in 1 quarter vs New England.

Can't wait to watch "America's Team the 2014 New England Patriots" and the Super Bowl 49 highlights. I love those America's team shows and there are four I haven't and never will watch, the 2007 Giants, 2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens and 2013 Seahawks.

George, Congrats on your team winning the BIG game. I remember early in the season with 4 or 5 games played the Patriots were having
some issues, Brady was frustrated. Seems the Pat's were on a smooth road to the SuperBowl from game 6 on forward.

Thanks for your support and well wishes; saw Inside the NFL last night and it was their Super Bowl highlights show. NFL Films does an incredible job with different camera angles from the game, plus they had Brady, Wilson and Edelman mic'd up, some great, greart sound bites.

Sherman and Wilson said some nice things to Brady as the game ended, two pretty classy guys, not sure why Sherman does the things he does to the cameras, no need for it, he should just let his play speak for itself.

And man oh man is Pete Carroll a cheerleader on the sidelines, he says some off the way things; that said, his "Oh no"...............dropping of his headset and almost going to his knees on the INT was tough, what a gut punch.

The post game stuff from the field was awesome, some of the things said during the celebration had the living room here getting all dusty on me, hard to keep it together.................:wink2:.............those guys really love each other and play their ***** off for each other, the only sport that is close is hockey, these guys leave it all out on the field, that is for sure.

A fan called into one of the radio shows and wondered whether anyone has had more titles than the Boston fan in the last 10 or so years. Several SB and WS titles and a Stanley Cup title are hard to beat.

Some fortunate fans, no doubt. Possibly topped by the unbelievable 13 year run, from 1957-1969, by the Boston Celtics and their 11 NBA titles and the Bruins taking a Stanley Cup. NYC also had a great 13 year run from 1937-1949 when the Yankees won 8 series, the Giants an NFL title, and the Rangers an NHL title. Hard to top those Russell lead Celtics.:wink2: -- Al

They were playing clips on the afternoon talk radio show today of Carroll's interview on the Today Show where he defended his decision to thrown second down and blow the Super Bowl.

Seriously?

Jesus Pete, please just stop talking.

Go away for a vacation to an island with the coed you were shacking up with at USC and STOP already.

This guy was made for a West Coast market; if he blew a Super Bowl like he did and he was the coach of the Patriots, Giants, Eagles or Redskins, he wouldn't be able to leave his house. In Seattle, it's all hugs, kisses, "It's ok Petey, we still love you, the 12's have your back, go get em next year coach!!"

Grady Little had a brain fart in the 2003 ALCS, left Pedro in too long and got fired; Pete the poodle is a hero in Seattle.

In my mind, he'll always be remembered for this epic gag job and for getting his head handed to him in a post game press conference by a sports writer up here named Ron Borges when he coached the Patriots. Have never seen a reporter before or since lay into a professional coach like that and he just stood there with his mouth open.

Mr "Pumped and jacked."
