NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

"The Snake"............the guy who flipped the ball forward as he was about to get sacked on 4th down vs the Chargers and put the wheels in motion for one of the most famous plays in NFL history where the Raiders purposely fumbled the ball forward into the end zone and Dave Casper fell on it for a game winning TD.

A play that is now illegal.

"Just win Baby".

And he was a lefty like me and I loved the guy, but in the 1976 playoffs vs the Patriots on the Raiders last gasp on four down as time was running out, that was not roughing the passer by Sugar Bear Hamilton on Stabler, it was a horseshit call by Ben Dreath that gave the Raiders a first and goal on the one, they scored, won the game and went on to win their first Super Bowl vs the Vikings.

"Just win Baby."

How ironic that after that gift, Raiders fans still whine over the tuck rule.

What goes around comes around.

"Just win Baby."

Snake was a true character. I remember being impressed because he was a left-handed Qb when it was considered unusual. I was a big fan of his while he was at Bama in '66 and '67, where he also ran a lot. RIP. -- Al

I see that Greg Hardy's suspension was reduced from 10 to 4 games. I guess that means that in the eyes of the Arbitrator, violent crime against women is no worse than a suspension for steroids, marijuana, etc.

Being left handed myself I liked Stabler from the first time I saw him play, his toughness and will to just win baby fit the Raiders to a tee, he broke my heart in the ghost to the post playoff game against my then Colts in Memorial stadium but always enjoyed watching him play...Sammy

Or a presumed deflated football.

Remember it well. Wrecked my Christmas. -- Al

this is unbelievable...
absolutely crazy...

on top of that...
Pierre-Paul isn't the only NFL player to suffer a fireworks-related injury this Fourth of July...
Bucs cornerback C.J. Wilson reportedly lost two fingers in an accident...

I don't know what kind of fireworks they are working with...
or if they hold them in their hands while they explode...
you assume these are intelligent people...
how does this happen?

didn't anybody teach them to run after they light the fuse?

I think Canseco was considering selling his severed finger on Ebay...
perhaps Pierre Paul or Wilson can work a deal with him on it...

it may get reduced more...
when he was charged...
the penalty was set at 2 games suspension...
he may go to court to try and get it lowered to 2 instead of 4...

Jerry and Dez made me sweat this out til the last 30 minutes before negotiations expired...

I'm glad they came to an agreement and don't feel like he crippled the cap for a decade...

congrats to Denver fans too on Thomas...

I'm sure you guys were sweating that one too...

now lets see what this alleged phone collusion conversation does...

Another one for the blotter: Will Allen, who played for the Giants and Dolphins, is accused of investor fraud (of players, I believe) and may be going to jail for a very long time.

Update on Brady: if he gets suspended for even one game, he's going to Federal court and will apparently release all his phone records. If that happens, I assume he'll will be asking for a TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) or preliminary injunction against the NFL.

Brad...

what does that mean?

a temporary restraining order against the NFL...

Michael,

If the Commissioner upholds his four game suspension and there is a likelihood that the Federal Court won't act by opening day, my guess is that Brady's lawyers will ask that the NFL be prevented or restrained from carrying out the suspension. A TRO is an equitable remedy which means you're asking a court to do or prevent a certain action from taking place, i.e., his suspension. Equitable remedies are different than monetary damages since in the latter all you're asking for is the payment of money rather than a particular action.

Brad

thank you Brad...

I think your guess is pretty much spot on...

I just read that article and it seems to imply that this will let Brady start the season opener and address the appeal in a later court date...

if the original verdict is upheld...they would penalize them at a later date in the season on the suspension...

I also understood the article to say that if Brady wins...

all NE fines...penalties...lost draft picks...will be re-instated...

sounds like good news George...

Sounds risky, if he loses, or is found to have erased messages, Brady stands to be branded even worse. Michael

If there is a decision already, is there any good reason for the NFL not to announce the outcome of the Brady appeal? Do they hold back and wait for some other big news so that it does not get all of the headlines?

Absent some new evidence - which seems unlikely since this was clearly an intentional act on behalf of Brady - I don't see how the NFL could reduce the penalties and save face. What would be new or different in that equation? It's like when the NCAA tried to destroy the USC football program for its success with overzealous sanctions. Even though they realized down the road that they had overdone it, there was nothing new upon which to change that prior decision. Reducing the penalties would basically be an admission of a mistake on their part. Something they are never going to do voluntarily. I'm not even sure why Brady is pushing this. The first four games of the season are fairly meaningless. The Pats are good enough to at least win a couple without him. At his age, a shorter season reduces the risk of injury etc.

Unless he thinks that he can prevail, he would not bring an action in the courts. Obviously, he thinks he can. Also, Goodell's track record with having suspensions affirmed is none too good.

Fans everywhere think he cheated, so what could be worse if he loses............now he's REALLY a cheater?

People have already assumed he's guilty, so there is zero risk with taking this as far as he can.

The first four games are meaningless? Finishing 14-2 vs 12-4 could mean HFA throughout the whole playoffs or having to play two playoff games on the road.

If this was baseball and it was four games, or basketball or hockey, then I agree, but with football, every game is critical.
