NFL 2015 Season (2 Viewers)

Maybe they should get Sarkisian to be the announcer for Lingerie Football, man would that be entertaining; saw the clip of him two sheets to the wind at a school function, that's quite a wagon USC has hitched themselves to.

Meanwhile down under the NFL is big news due to Jarryd Hayne's two recent pre season games for SF.

Hope he makes the final squad. Seems to be doing well so far:salute::

Yes, only 9-4 last season beating ND 49-14 and Nebraska in a bowl game. A real trainwreck even though they have been playing under bogus NCAA sanctions for the past five years that would have destroyed any other program. If Brady missing four games is the end of the world imagine how the Pats would fare if they lost 15-20 players for the next three seasons. And those penalties were decided by rivals like the Colts, Steelers and Ravens. That's basically what happened to SC. NCAA members from ND, Florida and other schools who could not compete with King Pete decided on the sanctions which were based on things like a women's tennis player making long distance calls and Reggie Bush's parents living in a house without paying rent.

It's only pre season Brett....

It may be pre season but Australians watching with great interest and while most would not have supported his previous Rugby league team I think they will wish him well.

A major story down here and based on what I have read seems to be generating good press in USA.

The guy has taken a serious pay cut to chase his dream and I hope he makes it.

If he does well will raise the interest in NFL amongst Aussie sports fans. I don't even follow NFL but will be interested to see how SF go. I have no idea if they are a good team but a lot of Aussies going to be supporting them if he makes the team and should add a bit of interest for SF fans. After all you would not want us judging NFL by the most recent NFL news being about Deflategate.

As I was typing this a story about him came up on TV. Good to hear the American game commentator talking about throwing another shrimp on the barbie whilst Hayne doing a good run.

My son's a 49er fan and says he's number 2 in the depth chart. He told me that he has no football experience and since my son knows football and loves the 49ers I assume he's correct. He's excited about the kid but, again, I told him, it's only pre-season. In pre-season, in the first three games the regulars play a few series and then the players who hope to make the team play the rest. In the fourth game, the regulars do not play.

It could be a nice story but I think it's too early to get excited. If he makes the team, then I'll be interested to see what he can do.

As a Niner fan I am in "wait and see" mode. He has looked good and I hope he makes the team. However, it is pre-season and making the team, playing for the team and staying on the team are three very different stories.

You're barking up the wrong tree here; I've been a fan of USC since back to the Sam Cunningham/OJ Simpson/John Robinson teams, loved the uniforms, the packed stadium and the mascot on the horse and the fact that they destroyed UCLA every year in the annual televised match up before moving on to the Rose Bowl.

Pete the Poodle and his rah rah Joe high school act (and if you want to see this up close and personal, take a look at any of the Super Bowl highlights; every one of them showed Belichick "coaching" his defense on the sideline, while they showed Pete babbling into his headset or joking with coaches or worse yet, cheerleading on the sidelines, talk about night and day) was perfect for college football, he should have stayed there and kept it going, he would have been a legend.

That said; the current coach showing up at a school function three sheets to the wind is not a good look, that was my only point.................

I have been watching Hard Knocks on HBO. Clearly JJ Watt is the incredible, the only problem is he doesn't play QB.

Brad and Jason,

As you say early days and being on and doing well in the pre-season team not the same as making final team and regular games during the season.

There are many aspects that make this an interesting sport story (ie. his lifelong ambition, big pay cut, Aussie, relative old age, 27, to start, no previous NFL background etc). Obviously
NFL not a sport played here except at amateur level. However Hayne long been interested in the NFL.

You mentioned his lack of experience. Whilst it is true he has no NFL experience his Rugby League experience is as close as you could get to NFL but in another sport. The ball even looks the same. He has played top level sport at Club (196 games) , State (20), and International level (12). Most of the time he has played at full back. That position is the main catcher of the team. Teams get six plays and usually on the 6th they will kick long to gain ground. The catch is usually taken under pressure as the opposition try to tackle the catcher before he can run the ball. Fullback then runs forward to gain as much ground as possible (they can also pass behind). Hayne always been known as a fast runner who has a brilliant ability to sidestep and accelerate away from opponents. Although his club team not that good he often carried the team to win.

No idea of the stats but I would guess a League fullback would receive more kicks than the same position in NFL. Any Aussie members who have watched both know if my guess is right ? Wayne WA I know follows NFL but not sure if he follows League that much.

This news article today assesses "The key attributes that make Jarryd Hayne ideally suited to NFL" with a good graphic and some interesting comments, much like yours, below from an Aussie NFL fan living in USA. Basically the story says if any Aussie can make it direct from League to NFL then it would be Hayne.

However as you guys say he needs to make it into the team and get the results there.

The coverage of this story here is huge. One story today says a main TV channel (7) negotiating with NFL to show all SF games (presumably on condition he makes the team). Another today mentioned Nike USA about to start mass producing his SF shirt and if that happens I guess will be widely on sale here.

I have never watched a complete NFL game but if he is playing and it is on TV here I will watch it just because I want to see him do well. If he does make the team I think SF going to notice a lot of local California based Aussies suddenly turning up to games and I would not be surprised if the Aussie actor group such as Russell Crowe (he owns a League team), Hugh Jackman, Simon Baker etc start to suddenly support SF.

I hope he keeps a level head and does not get injured as want to see him do well.

Michael Vick was signed by the Steelers as Ben's back up. Last night I was browsing Facebook and I saw that some people were falling over themselves panning the move. Some were saying "I was horrified," "I'm becoming a Giants fan," a lot of indignation and so forth. Hello, what happened to the man serving his time and paying his debt to society. Is there no forgiveness in people anymore. Yes, a reprehensible act(s) by him but is there no forgiveness anymore?

I have grown a little softer...
young kids make mistakes...
as long as it's not murder...or rape...or selling drugs to children...
I believe in second chances...

Roethlisberger,...
a dog lover has a foundation that provides support for K-9 units...

if he can forgive him...

I can too...

the man paid for his crime...

I would like to see him resurrect his career...

I am not a big fan of Pete Carroll considering what he did to Stanford for years and he continually destroys the Niners. Belichick's old man "get off my lawn" act wears on me too.

However both of them get a ton of respect from me for their charitable work. Much of what they both do is out of the limelight which speaks volumes to me. They have been doing it for years too. Hats off to them for that.

Belichick's old man "get off my lawn" act wears on me too.

His "get off my lawn" act is just that; an act.

He hates the media, specifically the national media.

He has a weekly radio spot during the season with Fred Smerlas and Steve DeOssie and he's beyond comical and candid on it, a totally different person than you see in his after game press conferences.

If you want to see the real Bill Belichick, check out his first press conference at this years Super Bowl; that's the real BB, not the guy you see on Sundays...................

George:

I get it. It is an act and it is effective, plus he doesn't care what others think anyway.

If you look on-line you can also see pictures of him at greyhound adoption qevents, I tend to think that those show him in a real light as well.

Besides, I would still take Belichick's grumpy old man act over Jim Harbaughs I know more than everyone else act.

More bad news for the NFL:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-49ers-ahmad-brooks-sexual-battery-ray-mcdonald-rape-20150827-story.html

Those two have a right to a trial, and are innocent until proven guilty. However, these sorts of events appear to be occurring on a weekly (and sometimes daily) basis among NFL players. In fact, it's becoming more and more difficult to categorize this sort of development as an "isolated incident." I know that there's a lot of money involved, but I have to think that sponsors are going to start bailing out on the game. I'd categorize that possibility as a "when" rather than an "if." Keep an eye on the gals, BTW. They'll let us know when the party's over.

-Moe

If they didn't bail out with Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson or Greg Hardy -- and they didn't -- these two incidents are not going to cause advertisers to leave. McDonald is old news anyway.

The NFL is making money like it's going out of style and is more popular than it's ever been. These two won't have any effect at all.

Next.

probably true...

and I believe in innocent til found guilty...

so while it won't hurt the mega giant NFL monster corporation too much...
as it seems to survive almost any catastrophe...

Brooks and McDonald...

probably dropped already...
but definitely dropped if found guilty...

any endorsements either of these athletes have...

no matter how big or small...

will soon be terminated...

rape is one of the big no-no's...

only Kobe could survive rape...^&grin
