NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

It's not at all a distinction without a difference. Whether or not Brady was involved with deflating footballs is besides the question. After reading further, the question is whether Goodell exceeded his authority under the CBA and the Court found that he did. Moreover, the Court found that the NFL didn't make him aware that he could be suspended for four games; it's a question of due process under the law.

Goodell is allowed to suspend players, but within the bounds of the CBA and pursuant to due process. He is not free to act at will or autocratically.

So this means that the NFL cannot ever punish cheaters, which Brady and the Patriots are. So now every game played could be suspect in a wild west without consequences. George, this ruling never absolved Brady of the deed, but that he could not be punished as ordered.. All this means is thet your poster boy for lying, cheating, stealing Super Bowl rings got away with the deed..Michael

Four Super Bowl wins, six trips to the Super Bowl, nine trips to the AFCCG, AFC East Champions 13 times in the last 15 years, no losing records during that time, worst record in that span was 9-7, all done by cheating.

Thanks again for the clarification.

As a football fan i feel that there are no winners here. The biggest loser has been the game itself.

I can't wait until we start talking about spectacular plays, heated rivalries and great match ups again.

Heck I will even take dissecting missed/bad calls over anymore deflate gate related topics.

This NFL thread is 47 pages and some 460+ posts and deflategate is the vast majority of it. Starts on page 40 and carries forward almost every page. Something like 3/4 of the total posts are this story. Well, as someone once said, no publicity is bad publicity, so the NFL must be loving it all. Deflategate, spousal abuse, thug behavior, concussions, and on it goes. Anyone else see a problem here? How can the NFL be about everything but football?:rolleyes2: -- Al

No, it does not mean that. It means you cannot act in an arbitrary and capricious manner when meting out punishment once the facts have been established.

Fans, in passing judgment on the ruling, should make the distinction between the facts surrounding the deflation vs. the Court's ruling: interpretation of the CBA and due process.

Memo to the NFL: hire new lawyers.

Further to my point, please see this article.

The NFL's General Counsel basically acted as a co-investigator with the so-called independent counsel. Whenever the NFL says they're hiring an "independent" counsel to investigate a matter, it needs to be taken with various grains of salt.

Goodell and his malodorous ilk cannot be trusted.

Further memo to the NFL: change your outside legal counsel.

Another interesting gloss on the ruling is that if the Court's decision is overturned, Goodell would have to issue a new decision on the suspension because his suspension ruling provided that Brady would be suspended the first four games of the 2015-2016 season, not four games to be determined later. In other words, the suspension, even though reinstated, would be null and void.

A friend of mine has season tickets for the Patriots, he goes with about 20 other people, he and his youngest son have the tickets, it costs him 135.00 per seat, 270.00 per game, 2700.00 a year for ten games.

As a season ticket holder, you are required to buy the two exhibition games; this year the Patriots played at home the first game and the last one. Brady and the offensive starters played two or three series in the first game, none last night, so he spent 540.00 to see a bunch of guys who'll be working at a car wash next week.

Talk about a total, utter RIP OFF by the NFL, you're REQUIRED to buy the two exhibition games.

Why don't they give those tickets out for free, give them to youth organizations, team advertisers, sponsors, church groups, schools, boys and girls clubs, you name it, they should do it.

'They'd still make money on the parking and the consessions, why not give those 100,000 or so tickets for the two games out for free?

God forbid it NFL, right?

I tried to watch Dallas and Houston last night...

Dallas played 1 starter on offense...

Bailey...the kicker...

Escobar (tight end) was in a series...
but he is actually not a starter...

I did not know another players name on the field...

these preseason games are a waste to the fan...
you are literally watching guys that will probably be cut next week...

I realize they are important to the coaching staff...

but they are heard to get excited about...

again...

I think 4 preseason games are just too much...

I never understood the NFL preseason. To me it is like going to and/or watching a concert where only the back-up singers perform.

I think the last time I watched a whole pre-season game there was a team in Baltimore called the Colts and their Qb wore #19.{eek3} -- Al

Well the Summer is coming to a end, pre-season is over and we're only days away from the opener of the NFL 2015 season!!!!!!!!!! come Thursday nite I'll have to borrow a Pats hat from George as I'll be a huge Brady fan that nite!! :) need the Pats to knock the evil Steelers off out of the gate, then next Sunday my Ravens play in Denver to start the season, not a easy task to say the least but hoping the offense can score a few TDs and the defense can keep Manning in check and keep it close, lots of great games to start the season and I'm ready for some football!!!!!!!!!...Sammy

Good to see Hayne made it into the final 49ers squad.
You Australians ought to be keeping an eye on Univ. of Maryland kicker Brad Craddock. He hails from Adelaide and is the best placekicker in Division 1 football. He's won several games for the Terps and is projected to go in next years NFL draft. He won the Lou Groza in 2014 which is awarded to the NCAA's most outstanding kicker. He's holds the school record for longest FG at 57 yards; holds the school record for highest percentage of kicks made in a season at 94.7%; made 24 consecutive FG's from 2013-2014 and holds the current highest percentage of kicks made in a career at 81.7%. Been watching him his 4 years here at UMd and he is a class act. -- Al

wow...

what an incredible read...

that was a very informative explanation of the history Spygate...

I had a general idea what it was...

but never knew all the dirty little details...

a very vilifying read...

the article took the position that Goodell actually did the Pats a huge favor by acting quickly and destroying all evidence of tapes and paperwork...

I never really considered that til now...

I was aware that Goodell had ordered the destruction of the tapes as that was discussed actively on local sports radio. I've never had a favorable view of Goodell since that time but now a few more people will know about it.

Notwithstanding his poor track record on his rulings, he makes the NFL a lot of money and will not be going anywhere. The latest, Deflategate, are mere blips on what concerns the owners most, making money, and for that he gets five stars.
