NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

yea...you're right...

I saw that George...

he blew the call...

that's why I like that they huddle and correct things...

I don't mind waiting for the right call...

the guy coming in...he did give "the signal"...

"rubbing his tummy"...

I laughed when they explained it...
I never heard that before...
usually they announce that this player is reporting as an eligible receiver...
notifying the refs and the other teams...

that is a rule that definitely needs to be re-examined...

need something a wee bit more technical...^&grin

if the defense on the field has their backs to the offense's bench...

they will never see this...

it's kind of unfair...

and I don't mean change it to...

"the Mafia...touch your nose twice" motion...

I mean announce it to the defense...

rubbing your chest...

for real...that's what the rule book says for this multi billion dollar organization?

that is embarrassing...

that is a total joke...

All I really know for sure is that I no longer enjoy the games like I used to. After every play I am checking to see if a flag has been thrown. No point in celebrating a big play until the all-clear is announced.:rolleyes2: Anticipating a penalty on every play is no way to watch a game and it sure kills the flow. The NFL sure takes advantage of it's fans, knowing the fans forgive a lot for the thrill of watching America's #1 sport. The NFL NEEDS to do something about the referee's and their controlling the outcome of a game that should rest on a team's ability and not that stupid yellow flag. It's been said many times, but fans don't watch to see the Zebra's run up and down the field. -- Al

There are a couple factors working against the NFL. The first is development of a lot of phony rules that are supposed to protect players from injury. Something that could be done more effectively by reducing the number of games including the endless preseason and playoffs and doing away with artificial turf. Obviously the owners will never do that because it reduces profits. Instead they create a lot of dumb penalties many of which are subjective and could be called on almost any play giving the refs more influence over the outcome. The second is the pressure to get every call exactly right leading to endless replays. Instead of just taking a bad call and moving on with the game it gets beat to death. Soon there will need to be attorneys on the field to sort out the increasingly complex rules and file appeals. I would eliminate replay except in the final two minutes of the game and play on.

but Al...

if there is a foul...

they gotta throw the flag right?

they gotta have rules right?

and they gotta be enforced right?

maybe it's the players...

not the refs...

would you prefer the rules changed to allow holding...
or pass interference...
picks...
no personal fouls...
no off sides...
no false starts...

I honestly believe they miss a ton of infractions...

if you scrutinized every play in slow motion...

every engagement of all 22 players...

there are probably several fouls on every play that were not called...

you have to accept the penalties as part of the game...

overall...I think the refs do a good job...

and honestly...

I have followed this thread for years...

I can't ever remember a fan on here of any team ever saying...

we won...
but...
we didn't deserve to win that game...
we should have been called for pass interference on our opponents last minute game wining drive...
or...
they totally missed a holding call by my team...
we shouldn't have gotten a TD on our game winning drive...
or...
we robbed them blind on a bad call...

nobody ever talks about bad fouls when that happens...

it's usually the losers that look back on penalties...

I enjoy the game and won't give it up over officiating...
it's the human factor that allows them to deviate and differ on what is a foul...
they need an unwavering, definitive rule that all the referees will agree on...

it's probably gonna come down to a panel of 10-20 refs...
not involved in the game...
that can watch the instant replay via some electronic gadgetry from their home...
and the panel will vote on the infraction...
then a ruling will be announced on the field...

the human factor is just something you have to live with if you're gonna watch the game without hating it...

I couldn't agree more with George about what he said. That performance last night was no better -- in fact, probably worse -- than the replacement refs they had last year that cost GB a game against the Seahawks. It's inexcusable.

One other call, I think it was overtime, maybe when Gronkowski was still in the game, but on a short pass play, it was blatant pass interference and you saw Brady go ballistic, and rightly so.

There is just no consistency how calls are made. What is acceptable in one game is not in another. How can a team prepare for a game that way.

Great point; incompetent is one thing, inconsistent is another.

As you pointed out, Talib got flagged for DPI earlier in the game, then on the drive you mentioned, he did it again, ONLY WORSE, yet no flag.

Call it the same across the board, show some consistency.

Also, it's crystal clear teams across the league have whined to the NFL over Gronkowski and
OPI, he gets flagged for it constantly, so the refs are looking for it.

He needs to stop, they are just going to keep calling it on him time after time, yet other teams can do it, do offensive picks/rubs, block downfield while the ball is in the air and not get flagged.

Michael,
I have nothing against the rules but the NFL needs to concentrate on consistent enforcement and take personal interpretation out of the equation, if that is even possible. Black or white, no gray. -- Al

Yes, consistency is important. In baseball, if the umpire is consistenly calling a ball outside a strike, teams adjust to that and have no issue if the umpires call it the same for both teams. That is what missing from some of these football games.

Excellent football game last night.
We all enjoyed watching the Broncos beat the Patriots.
Even the girls kept quiet and watched the 4th quarter and OT.

Then on the last drive where the Patriots were moving into field goal range, he kept saying Denver lost a time out due to an "injured" player on the field when Denver was out of time outs.

What are you babbling about you fossil?

It's one thing to blow calls, it's another to be incompetent out there.

George...

you might find this interesting...

http://www.thephinsider.com/2014/8/...-the-fourth-timeout-charged-to-dallas-cowboys

this was actually the right call...as per the rule book...

note...Teams cannot just continue to get excess timeouts without paying a price:

Penalty: For the second and each subsequent excess team timeout after the two-minute warning: Loss of five yards from the succeeding spot for delay of the game.

this is actually the correct call...

as Denver was out of timeouts...
one excessive injury timeout is allowed without penalty...
if there is a second excessive injury timeout...
the team is penalized 5 yards...

in this case...
New England would have advanced 5 yards if Denver did this twice...

here is a better description and explanation of last night's call...

apparently Belichick...or Brady...was unaware of this rule...

as the clock restarted when the ball was spotted...

Yeah great, good for you.

Al...

yes...
consistency is the key...

as "his strike zone" is established early by the home plate umpire...

in the NBA...
the enforcement of fouls is usually established early by the refereeing officials that night...

all anybody really wants is...
equality and consistency...
call it the same way the whole game for both sides...

Fixed it for you.

Fixed it for you.

Five penalties called on the Patriots last night, four in the four quarter; one took away a first down, another took away a 60 yard completion and one led to the go ahead score.

Other than that, the refs had no effect on the outcome of the game.

Breaking news is reporting Gronkowski has a bone bruise and is week to week.

Give me Amendola, Edelman, Gronkowski, Collins and Hightower all back healthy and I'll take my chances vs anyone in the AFC anywhere.

Even the Donkos in Denver; was Ostehwieler's family there last night by the way................:rolleyes2:...............they only showed them 4,724 times in the stands.

Yeah, we get it, whatever; can't wait for when they build the statue of him in front of the stadium.

You are absolutely right Mike, complaining about how bad the refs are and pointing out blown calls/non calls is pointless; they suck this year across the board.

I don't think the problem lies with the new refs, the problem lies with the old fossils out there, like the stooge last night who was the chief of that crew, he's 64 years old and reports were his teeth were chattering late in the game last night, he was basically out of it mentally while he froze his *** off.

He blew a call earlier in the game; the Patriots got a first down, but he threw a flag claiming that #71 did not report as eligible when in fact he did, the replay showed him coming onto the field with his hand up rubbing his chest, which is the signal.

Thank God, another of the crew corrected the moron.

Then on the last drive where the Patriots were moving into field goal range, he kept saying Denver lost a time out due to an "injured" player on the field when Denver was out of time outs.

What are you babbling about you fossil?

It's one thing to blow calls, it's another to be incompetent out there.

These refs need to be accountable; each crew should get reviewed after each game and if they grade out to an overall C or worse, they should be docked a weeks pay, that will get their heads out of their rear ends.

All of this is a mute point if that moron Harper doesn't fumble that punt; the Patriots were up two scores, Denver and their new All World QB Burgermystermysterburger had done squat and the crowd was out of the game; after the fumble, naturally the clown marches them down the field, they score and those yahoos out in Denver were back into the game.

And if they showed that clowns family in the crowd one more time, I was going to throw the tv through the window, ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THIS STOOGE.

It's a meaningless loss if they run the table.

All I can say is imagine if that was a playoff game, I would have had an epic meltdown over that ****show of a game.

I agree that the age of the officiating crews posts a real problem. The older refs' eyesight and limited physical abilities add to the abysmal calls this year. Full time, young, fit refs would alleviate this problem. Also, the plays should be reviewed by independent crews at a central location, like they are in MLB, and the call on the field shouldn't mean anything. Once there is a challenge, the reviewing official should make the call with the umpteen angles and slow and stop motion replays, without out necessarily even knowing what the call on the field is. Just get it right. And if I hear about "the human element" one more time I think I am going to scream. Does nobody realize that the only human element that is properly a part of the game is the players and the coaches? The officiating is meant to be correct, nothing more, nothing less.

Louis...

last thing I want to do is make you scream...^&grin

but if you don't see the errors and discrepancies...
that an actual human decision (referee) can cause on a games outcome...
"the human element"...
then we see things totally different...

I'm not agreeing with your youth or eyesight theory either...

these are not 80-90 year old myopic men out there...

I would guess it's mandatory they have a vision test to pass before they can apply for the job...

the under review plays...
I have found myself wrong on 100's of occasions...
when they show an instant replay in slow motion...

yea...he trapped the ball...
yea...his foot was on the line...
yea...that was helmet to helmet...

if you think a 20 year old...
with perfect 20-20 is gonna solve this problem...
I disagree...

humans make mistakes...

even young ones with perfect vision...

and yes...

the 7 guys in striped uniforms...are humans...and yes...they effect the game...

Don't look too closely, and this is in no way a prediction, but the Redskins have an easier schedule over the last 5 games than the Giants do. The Redskins have no opponents with winning records remaining on the slate, whereas the Giants have to play 3 winning teams, including the Panthers and the Vikings. Knowing the Redskins penchant for failure, I have no doubt they will choke this, but the schedule does promise to make things interesting. The problem for the Redskins is that 3 of the games are on the road and the Redskins are currently 0-5 on the road. I still think 8-8 takes the division with 7-9 possible, as well. What an impressive division.:rolleyes2: -- Al

ahhhhhhhhhhhh....

but Washington has 2 games against the MIGHTY COWBOYS!!!

Yesterday I had the chance to finally use my NFL TV package and watch a number of games.

Leaving out specific teams all I can say is that I have never seen pick plays used so much. A defense is essentially helpless against it and the NFL/refs have no idea how to police it. As one announcer put it, every team does it, some are just better at it that others. I saw one incident where one receiver literally crushed the defensive back and then acted like it was an accident when it was clear that he had specifically gone into the path of the defender. No penalty was called and then he did it again, both plays went for first downs and the team drove for a touchdown. Just about every game I watched had similar plays in it.

My question is when did the pick and roll move from the NBA to the NFL?
