NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

Another miracle win on an untimed play because, just like in the Raven's similar loss, the defender grabbed the Qb's facemask on what should have been the last play of a Detroit win, giving Green Bay the untimed play. How bizarre. -- Al

My poor Lions are always their own worse enemy. Same story different year. I'm seriously doubting that I'll ever get to see a Lion superbowl win in my lifetime. SOL:(

There may be doubts that there was a penalty on the last play. On Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio said that:

"The rules suggest that what happened to Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers wasn’t a foul.

'No player shall grasp and control, twist, turn, push, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction,' Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14 states.

The rule comes with an important caveat: 'If a player grasps an opponent’s facemask, he must immediately release it. If he does not immediately release it and controls his opponent, it is a foul.'

Lions defender Devin Taylor grazed the facemask of Aaron Rodgers, at best. If there was any grasping (and there wasn’t), Taylor immediately released the facemask."

Moreover, Rodgers was very close to crossing the line of scrimmage when he threw the ball. I thought he might have crossed it.

It was my impression that there was no foul. At worst, the defensive player touched the mask in the process of snagging Rodgers jersey. It didn't appear to me that he grabbed the mask at all, but in that situation with the tackle occurring that high up, and the movement of Rodgers, it had to appear to the refs, reacting in real time, that the mask was yanked. Unfortunate for Detroit as it sunk their season as surely as it saved Green Bay's. -- Al

wasn't much...

but he did graze it for a micro-second...

watch the 45 second spot...

the rule:

“No player shall grasp and control, twist, turn, push, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction,” Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14 states.

The rule comes with an important caveat: “If a player grasps an opponent’s facemask, he must immediately release it. If he does not immediately release it and controls his opponent, it is a foul.”

should have been incidental at most...the 5 yard variety...

however...

the new rule:

Incidental contact made with the facemask of an opponent.
This penalty is no longer called.
The foul is either flagrant enough to be a 15 yard variety, or it is not called at all.

“If a player grasps an opponent’s facemask, he must immediately release it. If he does not immediately release it and controls his opponent, it is a foul.”

as this reads...
I think this should have been ignored and no penalty called...
as he immediately released or didn't even have it in his grasp to start with...

the play wasn't even eligible for review...and that sucks too...just a bad call...

the penalty moved the ball from the 25 to the 40...

the saddest thing for me...

I had Green Bay -4 1/2...

the didn't attempt the extra point...just took a knee...I lost by 1/2 point without the extra point on the TD kick...

no point in looking back on it now...

tough break for Detroit...and even though they have stepped up their game lately...they really had almost no chance to make the playoffs...

Green Bay on the other hand...as the beneficiary of this call is tied for 1st place with Minnesota to win the division...

The face mask call is probably not a good call as I pointed out but if the Lions defend the next play they win.

Unbelievable ending, again. Game tied at 27, Cleveland has a FG attempt blocked at the gun, Baltimore returns it for a TD to win it, 33-27. The 11th game in a row decided by 8 0r fewer points for Baltimore. What a season. -- Al
The year of pain continues for the Ravens as they lose to Miami 15-13. Another game decided by 8 or fewer points. All 12 of their games, in fact. Rather unbelievable. -- Al

Talk about sucking, the Bears blew a game they should have won. Gould blew a kick at the end of the game that would have won the game. Disappointing as this was a winnable game.

Can't believe the Patriots/Eagles game. Not over yet but 21 points in 10 minutes is a lot of points, even for Brady. I am stunned by the ways the Eagles have scored. Naturally, I am rooting for the Pats to win. Must have jinxed them.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Things looking better. Now they only need 7 with 3 minutes to go. -- Al

Another great call by ref costs the Ravens a 52 yard touchdown, the Dolphin defender falls down on the play and the ref calls the Ravens for offensive interference???^&confuse^&confuse only thing offensive about the play was the ref throwing a flag on it!! then of course my man Tucker who is clutch misses a possible game winner, :(:(..someone please take this NFL season out behind the barn put a bullet through it so it can please come to a end...Sammy

another crazy week in the NFL...

not gonna address ref's calls...as there is nothing anyone can do about them anyway...so not gonna sweat them...

okay...so...6 missed extra points...that's crazy...the new rule has made the automatic extra point...hardly anything close to automatic anymore...I like the new rule...it definitely adds a twist to the game...and that's as I watch Tomlin go for the 2 point conversion regularly...

on that note...congrats to the Steelers...congrats Tom...while I don't think they will catch Cincinnati...they seem to be gelling at the right time...winning 3 of their last 4...and should get a wild card if they maintain their steady play on offense and defense...

Antonio Brown with the Steelers TD celebration...that's a new one on me...straddling the goal post like he was in a strip bar...hahaha...the penalty didn't really matter...but I truly hate that kind of celebration...

speaking of celebrations...does Cam Newton's first down celebration...standing sideways to the end zone...both hands over his head...indicating a first down...does that irritate anyone else? I hate it...nothing wrong with being happy...but geez...it's a first down...not a TD...Michael Irvin used to do this and I hated it...if he got a first down he would drop to his knees and make a huge production of pointing to the end zone...the classy guys to me...are the one's without the choreographed routines...they hand the ball to the ref and just walk away...that's class...act like you have done this before...

still...Carolina is undefeated at 12-0...Cam Newton really is that good...beating Drew Brees and the Saints at home in their dome...is not unheard of anymore...but still...unbeaten...12-0...that's huge...that is so hard to do...Newton did what he had to do...they will probably go undefeated through regular season...

Brady and the Pats...not sure what happened...I didn't watch the game...but I saw the highlights...just like the saying goes..."on any given Sunday any team can beat any team"...Brady's interceptions were ugly...but one man alone can't win in the NFL...I'm sure the injuries are hampering what he can do...no doubt about it...and not to worry George...they will be mostly healthy for the playoffs...and that's all that matters...I think they will still be the Vegas favorite to win it all...but if there is one team I would sweat...it would be Carolina...and you might still get home field...as I can't see them losing to Houston...Miami...NYJets or Tennessee...so 14-2 should get you there easily...

Denver has been impressive without Manning...Osweler is 3-0 as a replacement starter...I'm impressed...with their defense...they are a threat...when will Ware be back?

speaking of defense's...Cincinnati has the league leading defense on points allowed...that's crazy...if the season ended today...Cincinnati holds the first tie breaker for home field in the AFC...with an 8-1 division record...Denver holds the second seed by beating the Pats...the Pats hold the 3rd seed...

in the NFC...obviously Carolina is the top seed...Arizona still has a tough schedule of Minnesota...Green Bay...Seattle...and the Eagles...all but the Eagles tough games are at home...

tonight's game should be a barn burner...I'm sure all of America will be glued to their tv sets to watch the 3-8 Cowboys play the 5-6 Redskins...should be a heck of a game...hahahaha...

and Jerry Jones is really scaring me...he is still talking about Manzel...but like they say...you need a lot of clowns to make a good circus...

My prediction is a Cowboys win tonight. Why? Because in the NFC Least anything is possible and the safe choice is the least likely choice.

Brad...

in the NFL...that is as solid a reason as any...

I like them +4 because they do keep most games close...

and Cassell should have no fan/peer pressure on him...

Weeden failed...he (Cassell) failed...Romo failed...

but I can't bet them...I don't like them that much...^&grin...

I'll watch the game just for the entertainment value...

Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic pathologist who first tied head trauma suffered by football players to a neurological brain disorder, has stated that he doesn't think risky high-impact sports should be allowed until a person reaches the age of 18 because of the way the brain develops. Not good news for the NFL or high-impact sports in general. Expect a full-blown counter-attack by the Gods of the NFL in short order. -- Al

There is a certain logic in picking against the Redskins simply on the basis that they have not won 2 games in a row all season. They won last week, so this week...:wink2: -- Al

On the other hand you could say they are due. There is no way to be wrong or right with this division.
