NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

Don't know about the Dawgs but the Braves are investing in the future. One day it will look good.

Thanks Raiders and Steelers; if the Steelers knock of the Donkos next week and the Donkos beat the Bungles in two weeks, that would give the Patriots a two game lead for the #1 seed, making that game against the Jets basically meaningless.

I'd hate to have the #1 seed come down to beating Bowles and Spinach Chin in New York, the Jets are playing good ball right now.

We'll see; funny how things change in the NFL, Patriots went from the #3 seed to the #1 seed in one day......................................

George:

Your last point is so right. On sports talk radio late last night one expert refused to discuss potential playoff match-ups because there is so much football left to be played and the multitude of potential scenarios makes that discussion a waste of time. The example he used was the Patriots who in one day moved from #3 to #1. Discussing a team's chances of making the playoffs is one thing but discussing seeds is another.

After watching that Patriots/Texans game last night, the one that most experts said was going to be a dogfight, it's pretty clear to me that as long as the Patriots stay healthy (and in this league, that's a big IF as they lost four more players last night to injury), nobody is going to beat them.

Their defense, with a healthy Mayo, Sheard and Collins, looked terrific last night, giving up only two field goals. Gronk looked great, caught a TD and a long pass down the middle, Brady stayed upright for the most part, Watt was a non factor in the pass rush.

Get Edelman on offense and Hightower on defense healthy and go from there.

Thrilled with that effort last night.

If both the Jets and Steelers win their remaining games to finish at 11-5 and assuming the Broncos win the West, the Jets will be out of the playoffs, for the following reasons:

If the two teams are tied, you need to go to the various tie breakers. The first wild-card tiebreaker is head-to-head games, but the Steelers and Jets did not play each other this year.

The second tiebreaker is intra-conference record, and the Jets are currently 6-4 against other A.F.C. teams while the Steelers are 5-4. But if both teams win their remaining games, they will end the season 8-4 against A.F.C. teams.

The third tiebreaker — record against common opponents and the one that does the Jets in — would then come into play. The Steelers would be 4-1 in the two teams’ common games (beating the Browns twice and the Raiders and the Colts, while losing to the Patriots), while the Jets would be 3-2 (beating the Browns and Colts, losing to the Raiders and splitting with the Patriots in this scenario). As a result, the 11-5 Steelers would rank ahead of the 11-5 Jets. The same would be the case if both teams ended 10-6 — so long as the Steelers beat the Browns.

A shame that a 11-5 or a 10-6 team misses the playoffs while over in the NFC, a 9-7, 8-8 or 7-9 team in the NFC Least makes the playoffs. Those are just the breaks.

In 1967, the Baltimore Colts went 11-1-2 and did not make the playoffs because of points differential. That sucked. Lose one game and you don't make the playoffs.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Different sport but during an off season interview Curry was asked what the key to a Warriors repeat was. The reporter asked was it 3-point shooting? Rebounding? Development of young talent? Coaching?

Curry's answer: Staying healthy.

Sounds like the current state of college football.

Brad...

I saw that on ESPN's "C'Mon Man!" segment...

I hate that sheeeet...I despise it...it ruins the game for me...

and the guy on the coaching staff that got on his knees and waddled to him...

he should have been penalized too for taunting...

so unprofessional...

Week 13 done and the NFL has 11 teams with winning records and...21 teams with losing records. Fantastic.:rolleyes2: -- Al

You're just jealous of his moves!!!! {sm4}

Mike,

I understand how you feel but I thought it was funny, particularly the last part. Guess he figured that since he got the penalty he might as well go full bore.

The difference between baseball and football is funny. In baseball everyone gets bent out of shape if you show a little individuality whereas in football it's just part of the game now.

One might be tempted to say that it is the difference between dignity and no dignity.:wink2: Or uptight and more laid-back, dude.^&grin -- Al

Football has become or is a game where you can show your creativiity (although not too much) whereas baseball seems more tradition bound and you can't show too much emotion. However, we are seeing certain situations where players, particularly Latin players, are used to showing more emotion and running against traditional mores. For example, there was an incident where the Yankees and Girardi seem to get upset with Carlos Gomez of the Astros for showing what they deemed to much emotion. Gomez responded with something to the effect that Latin players show their emotion. Just as football went with the flow with black players showing exuberance, baseball may have to do the same with the Latin players, who make up a significant amount of today's players.

Brad...

I just don't like it...and it's my own problem...just mine...

I don't like bragging...I don't like gloating...I don't like trash talk...I don't like bullying...

and I especially despise the amount of time someone spends...
to memorize a "15 second hand slapping shuck and jive choreographed routine"...
where they should be spending more time learning the playbook...

more times than not...
these excessive celebrations and "showboating" cost your team a penalty...

I don't know where these football players picked this up...
high school...college...the NFL...

on that note...
my friends and I do playfully "talk sheet" before a round of golf...
you know...
like...

"okay boys...today your azz is grass...and I'm the lawnmower"...

but that's pregame and just for fun...
nobody shows any excitement when you win a skin and there are no dance celebrations...
if there were...
you would probably not be invited back to play again...

I don't mind the "Gronk spike"...
"Rodger's Championship belt move"...
I can even stomach Bryant's "signature X celebration"...
a high five...
a chest bump...
the "Lambeau Leap"...
even high stepping into the end zone...
just get it over with quickly and show a little class...

but maybe I'm too old to enjoy this any farther than that...
these choreographed skit nightclub conga line celebrations similar to the closing scene in "The Replacements"...
playing "I Will Survive"...
totally turn me off BIG TIME...

the "Icky Shuffle"...
TO and his sharpie...
Billy Whiteshoe's "Funky Chicken"...
a practiced routine...

I can't stand that...

Barry Sanders...Emmit Smith...Walter Payton...

not so much...

when they punched it in the end zone...for the most part...they picked themselves off the ground...walked over to the ref...and handed him the ball...

now that is cool...that is class...act like a football player...it will still get on ESPN's highlight reel...

this year...
for real...
the Cincinnati Bengal's players...
actually hired a TD dance choreographer to learn a TD routine...

could you see Jim Brown doing that?

it's just my problem...something I have to tolerate...

Well, maybe. The Braves are trying, it seems, to time their resurgence with the opening of their new ballpark in 2017 (situated slightly more than a stones throw from my office).

Whether all the trading and reconfiguring works, well, the future will reveal. I suppose they get some credit for bold moves.

Dawgs have a new head coach who himself is a former Dawg player and hopefully learned a thing or two from Saban.

The Falcons have always been a miserable excuse for a football club. Almost like the football version of the Cubs, just with less history. The have stunk, are stank and will probably will perpetually stink. At least theyre consistent.

The lack of respect the Panthers get is amazing. See Oddsmakers Give Panthers No Respect.

They complain because they have beaten very few good teams but so have many other good teams. If you put the word "Packers" or "Patriots" in place of "Panthers," oddsmakers and critics would be gushing about them.

On ESPN showed footage of a bunch of players on the sideline posing for a selfie with about two minutes to go in a blowout win last week.

Imagine Belichick's reaction to that, or Lombardi, or Shula, or........well you get the point.

That team is WAY too cocky for my taste, stop dancing and posing and play the game the right way.

If things play out the way they should and they beat the Seahawks, Cardinals and Patriots, don't worry, they'll get all the respect in the world.

as annoying as Carolina's braggadocio is...
I think Newton and Carolina are that good...

with Cam's strong laser arm...
his strength...
intelligence and confidence...
his speed and the league's 4th best ranked defense...
they really are that good...

to me he's like a fast mobile Big Ben...

and a good defense really make a QB look better...
turnovers...field position...etc...

the Vegas line is created by a simple formula that anyone can replicate...

difference in total average points for each opponent...
difference in total average points against each opponent...
add 4 to 4 1/2 points for home field and that's the line...
and usually that is within 1-2 points of the Vegas line...

Carolina averages 31.6 per game...
NY averages 26.0 per game...
a 5.6 differential...

Carolina allows 18.7 per game...
NY allows 24.6 per game...
a 5.9 differential...

that's 11.5 on a neutral field...

subtract 4-4 1/2 for NY's home field...

the answer is Carolina -7...

this formula will work for most games...

there are some intangibles...like injuries weather...etc...

but yea Brad...I think 4 is a little off...

here's my guy's schedule for the week...

he opened at 5 1/2...and that line might increase as people bet on Carolina...
