NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

Louis…

I don’t expect everyone to see things the way I do…it would be a pretty dull world if we all just agreed with each other…a world of “yes men”…

and yes…I’m a biased Cowboy’s fan…I’ll admit it…while I don’t hate any teams in the NFC East…I have no problem with Jones giving someone a second chance…or any NFL team giving someone a second chance…

There are a lot of teams in the league that have taken second chances on players involved in PED scandals…child abuse cases…animal cruelty cases and domestic violence cases…

Everybody has made some mistakes in their life…I have…I owned a restaurant for 27 years…I employed some people that had a history with the law…more times than not…it was never a problem…

In your first post…I assumed you were talking about Greg Hardy…and I have no problem with Jones hiring Hardy…

Anything Jones says or does…is under scrutiny by the volumes of Cowboy’s and Jones haters…if Jerry Jones fart smells funny…it’s national news…headline sport’s news…

Hardy seems to be making an effort to get his life together…the news will twist anything that Jones or Hardy says to sell their stories…

The worst he has done since becoming a Cowboy…is make a few comments that the media blew out of proportion…

“I hope I come out guns blazin”

and

“I’m anxious to see what I can do…and I love seeing Tom Brady…you seen his wife…I hope she comes to the game…I hope her sister comes tom the game”

If you or me…or any other player in the league had made those comments…it would have gone unchecked…

This is what a Cowboy fan lives with…

while the Cowboys are the most hated team at 18%…they are also the second most liked team at 13%…

You don’t have to agree with anything I say or believe….nor me with you…

on Beckham…I don’t see him as a punk…I see him as a highly coveted…highly desired…extremely talented and passionate player…that 31 other teams would jump on if he were available..

I have not read what you said about him being a reason Coughlin was fired…but if the Giants threw Coughlin under the bus over Odell’s game against Carolina…well…then maybe while they don’t have a history of signing “trouble players”…but they sure don’t seem to mind giving them a second chance…

If the NFL implemented some type of moral character criteria they would be hard pressed to field a single team. Most of these guys have been taught to believe they are beyond the rules because they can play football. From age 14 onward they are treated like heroes by the fans, alums, media, and coaches. And what you get from that process are guys like Johnny Manziel. At best they are jerks. At worst criminals. In many case they are both. The coaches are no better.

Exactly; as soon as any of these athletes as kids exhibit superior talent, they get coddled and treated like royalty, they develop an arrogant sense of entitlement that they are above the law and can do whatever they want knowing someone will bail them out.

In todays climate with social media, cell phone cameras, texts, tweets, twerks, facebook, Twitter, nothing they do for the most part goes undetected.

In my younger years, I worked as a doorman at a big nighclub in Boston, it was the place to be in Boston on the weekends, we used to get all sorts of local and out of town athletes show up; the vast majority of them were clowns with the "Do you know who I am" mentality. We and the BPD squashed so many dust ups it wasn't funny; today, they couldn't get away with half the stuff they did back in the day.

I'm at the point where I don't care what they do off the field short of murdering someone (Hello Aaron Hernandez), as long as they perform on the field, that's all I care about.

Any kid who idolizes any of these boobs is soft................

Mike,

You definitely have a more forgiving approach to athletes than I do, and that is just fine.

I see being a paid professional athlete, like other professionals, be they doctors, attorneys, accountants, whatever, as having a great privilege. They get paid far better than the average person, to have a career doing something their particular skill permits them to do. In response, they are treated differently than the average person in many ways. One of the ways that most professionals are treated differently is with regard to professional ethics. If an attorney, or a physician, or an accountant, violates the ethical standards of his or her profession by committing a crime, they lose their license, and are not afforded a second chance to practice their profession. Period.

I hold professional athletes to this same standard, and would not myself afford them a second chance. Some professional franchises take this same approach, less out of high moral fiber than out of a decision that these athletes are more trouble than they are worth. For example, as good as Plaxico Burress was in helping the Giants to win Super Bowl XLII, and in helping them to a 10-1 record the following season, once he pled guilty to carrying an illegal firearm, the Giants cut him and never re-signed him. Would they have done this with a true superstar, such as if Lawrence Taylor had his run in with the law while he was playing instead of afterwards? I doubt it.

Other franchises afford some (usually very talented) players with criminal problems a second chance. Is it because they are altruistic? Possibly. I tend to think it is because they would prefer to win no matter what the character of the player off the field.

Just for the record, I may happen to hate the Eagles, Red Skins and Cowboys as a Giants fan, but I respect them. I am proud of the history of the NFC East, which has more NFC Championships and more Super Bowl victories that any other Division in the league.

One of the people I respect most in the history of the game is Tom Landry (who was a Giants safety and the Giants defensive coordinator before becoming the head coach of the Cowboys for the first thirty or so years of their existence). So while I may not agree with you, I can respect your opinion.

Old Chippy to the Niners! It must me nice to get run out of one job as a complete disaster and then without missing a beat pick up more millions from another team. If they thought Harblow was a weirdo just wait until Kelly comes to town. Sounds like the Giants have their coach too.

I hope it works out, but I have my doubts.

I wasn't a big fan of him at Oregon or Philadelphia. I will support him as the new coach but he certainly wasn't my first choice.

On the bright side it looks like David Shaw will not be going anywhere as the Niner job was thought to be the only NFL coaching vacancy he would consider.

Kelly may do well in S.F. he admitted that he learned a hard lesson about trying to be play the GM/coach at the same time, so hopefully he will not worry about "buying the grocieries" as a great coach once said and stick to trying to win with the players he has...Sammy

I like Seattle but based on my 0-4 record last week, I'd run the other way.

I'll take some of that action, but you guys should already know how this is going to play out??? Manning's last ride strait to the Superbowl and he retires a Champ...so I'm going with Broncos at home, Steelers are a walking MASH unit right now, taking the Pats who are rested and ready for the Chiefs, in the NFC the Cards will win a close one here in Arizona against the Pack and the Seahawk playoff luck will run out of gas and Cam will take his Panthers to the NFC Championship game...Sammy

I have to disagree. NE will find a way. GB will get killed; Arizona is not DC. Seattle should be home but they're not and I think Manning could take them to the SB: the Last Hurrah.

I like Denver big unless they are playing in a blizzard. If there is an upset, I would go with KC over the Pats. Have no to stake in the playoffs but Carson Palmer is deserving of a Super Bowl. Absent injuries he might have won several and it's a miracle he is playing at this level at this stage of his career.

Mike,

Indeed, one of the reasons cited as the straw that broke the camel's back with regard to Coach Coughlin was his failure to bench or otherwise reign in OBJ during the Panthers game.

Louis...everything I'm reading is indicating the Coughlin stepped down on his own accord...did he quit or was he fired?

On January 4, 2016, Coughlin resigned from his position as head coach for the Giants. In a statement released by the Giants that day, Coughlin wrote, "I met with John Mara and Steve Tisch this afternoon, and I informed them that it is in the best interest of the organization that I step down as head coach. I strongly believe the time is right for me and my family, and as I said, the Giants organization."

if NE is not 100% healthy...or if KC's defense has a really good day...this could be a close game...I don't know how serious Brady's ankle is...or how rusty his receiving core is...but I think with Brady's experience...coupled with NE's coaching staff...NE pull away and find a way to win...however...Alex Smith is on a wicked run right now and probably feeling very confident...he's hot at the right time of the year...

Green Bay...or Rodgers...has been so suspect in the second half of the season...at times he looks scared in the pocket...passes way off target...Lacy seems unproductive...and their defense hasn't been very good of late either...except for last week...Arizona...or Palmer...on the other hand...he throws 40 yard passes like other QB's throw screens...they are not afraid to go deep and have the potential to beat anybody in the air...Fitzgerald...Brown and Floyd are probably the best trio of wide receivers on any team left in the playoffs...an aggressive pass rush and a decent secondary...but it's so hard to pass on Rodgers getting 7 points...

Seattle...Carolina...this is gonna be a good game...Newton and Wilson seem to have similar styles to me...I think Sherman makes Seattle's secondary better...but this is a toss up...on a neutral field the spread would be even...I think Carolina has a better pass rush...and I think Newton has a stronger arm and is faster...I like Carolina at home for sure on this one...

Pittsburgh is a big question mark for me...Denver is too for that matter...I'm sure Manning will start the game...but may get pulled early if he is unproductive...I'm not so sure Big Ben will not play...so I will wait on this one til the last minute to select...as I don't think Peyton is gonna blow Pittsburgh out...regardless of their starting QB...Pittsburgh with +7 is attractive right now...

Antonio Brown has been ruled out for the Steelers. Huge loss, still have Wheaton, Bryant and Miller, but that is large production that is not there. This shows you how dangerous headhunting hits are. What Burfict did is not part of the game, no way, no how, I still stand by that he should be suspended for at least a year. That wasn't even a bang bang play, the ball was long over Brown's head and Burfict took numerous steps. Oh well, can't cry over spilt milk, Sunday should be interesting, you never know, if Ben is in, they got a shot.

I'll be waiting with baited breath for arse mans apology to Brown today!!! Agreed Tom, Burfict should be gone for a year, the week before the playoffs that moron made a illegal hit on Matt Williams that was even worse then Brown's, Can't wait to play them next year....Sammy

I saw that hit too, it was bad. He is also the same idiot who put Leveon Bell out for the season earlier this year and laughed about it. AND he went after Big Ben's knees the next meeting. AND he tried the same thing on DeCastro this past week. When is enough enough with one player? He reminds me of that other idiot Suh.

Mike,

He stepped down, but he did it out of respect to the Maras and Tischs. In a local radio interview, John Mara, asked if Beckham's uncontrolled actions during the game played any roll in Coughlin stepping down, indicated that his failure to bench OBJ would have been a "last straw" if Coughlin had not stepped down. When asked if Coughlin would have been fired if he hadn't stepped down, he wouldn't answer the question. Reading between the lines, I believe he had told Coughlin that they were going to change coaches, so Coughlin stepped down.
