It's maddening to see the Pats run the same short pass play over and over again. You would think NFL coaches would put all eleven defenders within ten yards of the line and make Brady beat them long. Instead they play it safe and give up the short pass over and over until the Pats score. They can't get any pressure on Brady when the ball is out of his hands within about three seconds. The D gets tired and frustrated and then it's game over.
Blount, their feature back, is on IR; Lewis, his replacement is on IR. They have 241 year old Steven Jackson back there, ie, no running game, so the short passing game in effect is their running game. They have one standard receiver in LaFell, a beast of a tight end and two waterbuglike, shifty slot receivers in Amendola and Edelman, so those two move the sticks for them in place of a running back.
Plus, Brady cannot throw a deep ball, never has been able to, so the short passing game is their main weapon.
Brady did not get sacked once yesterday, so I'll take the short passing game; do that with an up tempo, no huddle offense and like you said, the defense is gassed; those first and second touchdown drives were a thing of beauty.
Gronkowski looked like a different player yesterday, kept getting seperation and had a nice burst after the catch several times.
Cannot wait for the AFCCG; if it's at home, I'm 75% sure I'll be going...................if it's in Denver, it will be the usual 20+ person group we have who watch all the games together, we have a ball either way, the comedy flying around really breaks the tension.....................
