NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

Totally agree with Louis. The team I most relate to, the mid 80s Mets, everybody used to loathe them. The team and the fans didn't care. We liked it even more that way.

They hate the Pats and Brady because he's good and has won. Do you think anyone hates Peyton who, although he's a great regular season QB, has regularly come up short in the playoffs? Nope.

His PIC 6 at the end of the 2010 Super Bowl vs the Saints and that snap that sailed over his head for a saftey in the 2014 Super Bowl vs Seattle is how I'll always remember him, not for the Super Bowl he won thanks to his defense in 2007 or this one if Denver pulls it out.

I read an article off of SI.com the other day where the writer was basically saying for all of you thrilled that the Patriots lost to Denver, you can hold off on dancing on their grave as they'll be back next year, they are in great shape rosterwise and salarycapwise, so deal with it.

Not sure about that; there are no guarantees in sports, nothing ever goes according to script.

The only SB he won was against the Rex Grossman led Bears. Enough said. Nonetheless, it wouldn't surprise me if Denver won this SB.

The Pats, thanks to Belichick, are always in contention and win the division. Yes, you can't take anything for granted but anything less than 11-5 (which would be shocking) or 12-4 would be surprising. It's an incredible record of achievement.

That was the Super Bowl played in a monsoon in Miami; Chicago ran the opening kick off back for a TD, but it was all downhill from there.

Saw a list of what's referred to as the "Golden 50 Super Bowl all time team".........fans everywhere will be happy to note Knoll is the coach, not Belichick, Montana is the QB, not Brady.

I don't have an issue with Montana. To me he's still the greatest. However, I wonder how they made the decision on who gets picked. As coach, I would have picked Lombardi. However, you could have also considered Landry as well. In the end it's hard to argue with Chuck Noll though.

If they had any brains, there would have been an AFC team and an NFC, not one all time team.

I'd go with Walsh or Landry in the NFC, Knoll in the AFC and for QB's, Montana in the NFC, Brady or Bradshaw in the AFC.

The Steelers teams of the 70's were unreal; no free agency then, all home grown talent, drafted by the Steelers. Not just very good players, they were stacked with HOF players. Incredible talent on both sides of the ball. Imagine an offense with Harris, Swan and Stallworth, they can run the ball down your throat or throw it all over the place, defense was loaded too.

Look at the Patriots from the past 15 years; outside of Brady, who on any of those teams is a HOF player? Maybe McGinest, Harrison and Law, but that's a big maybe. On offense, Moss and Gronkowski if he doesn't die on the field before he's 30, but that's really about it.

If Revis had stuck around here and played four or five more years as a Patriot, maybe him too; but nope, he got his ring, then followed a dump truck full of money back to the Jets.

Here's the Super Bowl Golden 50 Team full roster, with my list of notable snubs:

Position X Player(s) X Notable Snubs:
Quarterback X Joe Montana X Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady, John Elway, Troy Aikman
Running Backs X Franco Harris, Emmitt Smith X Marcus Allen, John Riggins, Larry Czonka, Timmy Smith, OJ Anderson
Wide Receivers X Jerry Rice, Lynn Swann X Michael Irvin, Ricky Sanders, Max McGee
Tight End X Jay Novacek X Vernon Davis, Dan Cross
Offensive Tackles X Art Shell, Forrest Gregg X John Elliott, Joe Jacoby, Wayne Moore
Guards X Gene Upshaw, Larry Allen, X William Roberts, Russ Grim, Larry Little
Center X Mike Webster X Bart Oates, Jeff Bostic, Jim Langer
Defensive Ends X Reggie White, Charles Haley X Darnell Docket, Manny Fernandez, Harney Martin, Richard Dent
Defensive Linemen X Joe Greene, Randy White X Tim Krumrie, Vince Wolfork, Jim Burt
Outside Linebackers X Lawrence Taylor, Jack Ham X Chuck Howley, Rod Martin, James Harrison
Inside Linebackers X Jack Lambert, Ray Lewis X Harry Carson, Mike Singletary
Defensive Backs X Mel Blount, Deion Sanders X Mike Haynes, Lester Hayes, Larry Brown
Safeties X Ronnie Lott, Jake Scott X James Washington, Dexter Jackson, Dwight Smith
Kicker X Adam Vinatieri X Matt Bahr
Kick/Punt Returner X Desmond Howard X Jacoby Jones, Jermiane Lewis
Punter X Ray Guy X Sean Landeta
Head Coach X Chuck Noll X Vince Lombardi, Bill Belichick, Tom Landry

I have no problem with any of the picks, they all belong, but I also would have no problem with breaking it down into NFC/AFC rosters.

Another notable snub to me would be Roger Staubach. He led the team to the Super Bowl five times, four as the starting quarterback. He led the Cowboys to victories in Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII. And 2 of his SB loses were to the Steelers who at the time had that great defense. As a Steeler fan in the 70's any time we played Staubach in the Super Bowls or "The Snake" Ken Stabler of the Raiders in the AFCCG brought out the most nerves times to me. Also John Stallworth, who has 4 SB rings and still holds the Super Bowl records for career average per catch (24.4 yards) and single-game average, 40.33 yards in Super Bowl XIV.Back in those days QB's threw the ball 20 to 25 times at most and were free game for any type of hit by the defense, also D backs could beat the crap out of the receivers.Imagine what kind of numbers those guys would put up today when they throw now a days 35 to 40 times a game. Now a days if you bump the QB to hard or touch up a receiver it brings out a flag.Maybe that's why the QB's in that era get that much praise that they deserve form the media.

The NFL has started an "investigation" into the Al Jazeera charges against Peyton Manning. If they have Ted Wells of Paul Weiss running it, you know it will be inadequate.

Al Jazeera also charged some baseball players. By contrast, MLB has asked the U.S. Anti Doping Agency for help on an investigation. With USADA involvement, you will have a greater chance of finding the truth.

The USADA is now helping the NFL so I'm sure we will now get a proper investigation.

If it is proven that he used HGH to get back on the field at 38, have an MVP type season and now be the oldest starting QB in the history of the Super Bowl, Nantz will go into the fetal position, hug his pillow and sob like a baby, Phil Simms too.

The two of them are insufferable with their Manning praise; yeah, ok great, we get it, he's a talented QB.............................don't know who's worse, Nantz with Manning or Bream with LeBron James.........................

Speaking of Lebron, I love how he claims he had nothing to do with Blatt's firing. Is he for real. I used to like him but just another fraud.

I haven't been less excited for a SB than I can ever remember. It's not exactly a big deal to me regardless of who plays, but this year I really could care less. I just want to see them fill up the stadium with smoke with the halftime fireworks so that it is impossible to see the game when the second half starts. My next favorite moment involves watching those people they hire to stand in front of the stage during the halftime music performance and jump up and down like it is spontaneous rapture. Do they feel like idiots or is this the happiest moment of their lives? Maybe both. The whole spectacle is a microcosm of American culture. The good, the bad, and the very stupid (with an emphasis on the latter). I read somewhere that the US military pays the NFL a lot of money for those warm and fuzzy on field reunions between military soldiers and their families. Can you imagine the greed and stupidity of the NFL to take money for that purpose even if it was offered? Things have really gone off the rails.

Combat!

Yo, the negative waves man! Hey, I am not a huge NFL fan either, but I dig the Super Bowl and the Broncos of course. In fact, I banned Fantasy Football talk in my store this year because it was getting out of control. "I traded so and so, I got this many points, I lost that, I picked up so and so, I'm the Commissioner this year..." Good lord, it was a regular sausage fest and I was sick of it...so I banned it.

If there is one thing that I wholeheartedly disagree with about the Super Bowl is when they crown themselves as the "World Champions". Uh, no. You can't call your self the World Champs if you don't play the rest of the world. Hence, welcome to the United States where the Men are Men and the Women win the WORLD Cup.

Now, Combat this statement/article about the Military paying the NFL for the "warm and fuzzy" money shots at the beginning of the games I have got to see. Because if it's true...I'M GOING TO MY CONGRESSMAN! (remember that threat from one of the other threads around here). Anyway, I feel bad for you Combat and don't want to see you so despresso man. So, what can I do to cheer you up?

Lemme know,

John from Texas

PS: I can send you a rack of fajitas in the mail or a pecan pie.

John,
You go to the top of my hero list for banning Fantasy Football talk in your store; I am SO SICK of Fantasy football, it's taken over American sports culture and if I see one more ad for Fan Duel or Draft Kings, I am going to blow a gasket.

And sorry, Doug is right, the league takes money for all the feel good military stuff on the field................sad and pathetic.

And lastly, glad your team is in it, but like Doug, I won't be tuning in, time to rearrange my stock drawer, go antique shopping or go get the colonoscopy I've been putting off, count me out a week from Sunday................

I will be watching. It's one of sports great spectacles. Great theatre. How could you miss it. George, I just don't believe you :wink2: Of course, if it's a blow out by the end of first half, a lot of TVs will turn off.

I think the game could be very interesting, possibly comparable to the Giants Bills SB where you had a high powered offense and a great defense. If we get a game like that, it could be a classic.

Mike Francesa of WFAN in NY said today that Denver will be very happy if the game is 10-10 or no score in the 3rd Quarter whereas Carolina will be unhappy if the game is 0-0 at the end of the first quarter, let alone the 3rd. If Denver can minimize the damage in the early going, they might frustrate the Panthers and have a chance.

Hard to believe that SB I actually had a real marching band for halftime entertainment. Things have sure changed. -- Al

The only way Denver has a shot is if Carolina continually shoots themselves in the foot; Cam Newton is a true superstar, can beat you with the run and the pass. This won't be Brady back there, no threat at all to run; if Cam feels the pressure, he'll take off, not sure who will draw the assignment of spying Cam.

Also, the Patriots have ZERO run game, as in none, Denver last week did not respect the run at all, they pinned their ears back and rushed Brady with four, played dime and dropped into coverage, taking away all the underneath stuff, he had to hold the ball and got his rear end handed to him.

Carolina can run the ball too; they shredded two very good defenses in Seattle and Arizona, absolutely shut down Arizona's vaunted offense, specifically the passing game, made Carson Palmer look terrible back there.

Denver has a fraction of the offense Arizona has, Manning is not going to be able to complete third and 8's, 9's and 10's vs Carolina like he did vs New England; they are going to have to run the ball and Carolina has a very good run defense.

Manning stunk on ice in the second half last week, the Patriots drove the ball down to the Denver red zone four times in the second half.

Denver is going to need turnovers and short fields, like the boneheaded PIC Brady threw to Miller last week, Manning had a short field and still needed to convert a third down and then score on a third down, floating a prayer to some 105 year old tomato can Tight End, some goofy looking white guy, I had no clue who he was, some corpse Denver rescued off the scrap heap, looked like Bavaro, Novachek, Gronkowski, Winslow, Gonzalez and Gates all rolled into one with his two @#$%ing touchdown catches.....................

It's unreal how I'm still royally PISSED off over that loss last week.................

All true but Denver has the best defense in the NFL. Against the run, they were third and only missed by 30 or so yards being first. If they can stop the run, I think they have a shot because the Panthers' receivers are ordinary.

Denver's offense doesn't have to be all world. Again, just think Giants Buffalo SB. If the Denver D can frustrate the Panthers O and force them into mistakes, then, we could have a game.

Now, if Carolina does what it did against the Seahawks and Cardinals, yes, game probably over. I think the first quarter may be key. If Denver can hold them to negligible or no scoring, the Panthers may get a little impatient.

I know you don't like the Mannings but I think everybody in America (except North Carolina) will be rooting for Manning.

George...

the Las Vegas line has jumped quite a bit from opening at Carolina -4 1/2...

it's up to -5 1/2 now in most place and -6 in some...

still...

I wouldn't miss it...

can't understand how you can drop the sport just cause your team is eliminated...

should be a good show...

am anxious to see how Cam fares against Denver's rush...
and to see how Brady does against Carolina's too...
