NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

What are you guys complaining about. How would you like to be from St Louis? Loose the Cardinals, have a god awfull Rams team for the past 10 plus years then have a money hungry owner move the team to LA. You don't have it so bad at all!
Gary

Not to jump on the band wagon but it was nice to see Carolina not give up a second half lead like they have done in a lot of their games. Not a big fan of Newton's antics in the end zone but as a team I have to admit they are pretty darn good and as the odds at the beginning of the season showed, they weren't on the radar to get this far.
Pulling for the Panthers, more because I live in NC now, but just hoping it's a SuperBowl worth watching. If not the chicken wings, pizza and beer are always good no matter who wins!!

Gary,

You are absolutely right. Winning or losing a game is one thing, losing your teams is something entirely worse. Brooklyn Dodgers fans , New York (baseball) Giants fans, Baltimore Colts fans, and Cleveland Browns fans feel your pain. I can't imagine how pissed off I would feel in the Yankees or Giants decided to leave New York (the Dodgers and Giants left before I was born, and to this day older Brooklynites and New Yorkers are pissed off about it).

Everytime you see one of those "NFL is family" commercials you must want to scream.

Historically, Super Bowls are blow outs more often than not, and that bodes ill for Denver's chances, they way Carolina has been scoring in bunches. That said, I recall the 2000 NFC #1 ceded Giants blowing out the Vikings in the NFC Championship game 41 to nothing (I was at the game, one of the most enjoyable I can remember as a fan, no stress at all), then taking its highly ranked offense and top ten defense into the Super Bowl against a Ravens team with the #1 defense, and a lower end offense and getting blown out.

I'll say one thing, if Denver and Peyton Manning find a way to win, the conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day: "It was all a set up . . . Brady vs. Manning in the AFC Championship, then Manning walks off the field and retires with his second Super Bowl win. The fix was in!"

But at least you have the true Cardinals, one of the best organizations there is and the team with the most World Series championships after the Yankees.

So here's how I see the matchup (take it for what it's worth, I was 8-0 in the playoffs until yesterday, then 0-2 in the Championship games when it counted most, so I may not be much of a prognosticator):

Broncos defense, #1 overall and #3 against the run just basically shut down a Patriots offense that was 25-3 with Gronkowski, Edelman and Amendola healthy in the regular season and playoffs over the last two seasons. They are clearly very good, and Wade Phillips out-schemed Belichek, something you almost never see. Now, however, they face an almost unique challenge: Cam Newton and the Carolina offense, which is three dimensional (running, passing from the pocket, pistol). To win, I believe they have to hold the Panthers to 21 points or less. To do that, I believe they have to render the Carolina offense one-dimensional, shutting down the run and the pistol, and forcing the Carolina receivers to beat them. That is no easy task. How would I set about doing it if I were in Wade Phillips' shoes? Put 7-8 in the box, pass rush in contain mode with strict gap discipline, put your best cover guy on the tight end, Olsen, and hope your remaining cover guys can take the other Panthers receivers one on one. Will it work? Who knows.

On paper, the Broncos offense is no match for the Panthers defense, which is one of the best on the league. The Broncos have to find a way to score at least 24 points, and not turn the ball over. How? Peyton has to work his pre-snap magic, and run the right plays against whatever defense the Panthers are running, and whatever the best play is, be it a run or a pass, everyone on that offense better execute it to perfection. And they need to run for at least 125 yards to keep the Panthers defense honest.

Can the Broncos win? By beating the Patriots they told me they can win on any day when their defense is playing as well as it can (they picked Brady three times, sacked him 4 times, and hit him 20 times!). Will they win? Cam Newton isn't Brady. If they can rattle him, and get him to make mistakes and turn the ball over at least 2-3 times, maybe. But only if their offense puts 24 points on the board. And that's a tall order. On the other hand, Cam Newton not being Brady cuts two ways: if Cam Newton runs all over them, this game can get pretty ugly pretty early.

My gut says Panthers, but I would love to see Denver find a way.

I just hope the game shapes up to be more of a tight game, like the AFC Championship, then a game that's over by half time, like the NFC Championship.

Amen to that.

It's been a fun year, can't win the Super Bowl every year, they got close considering the **** ton of injuries they had.

Rest up, get healthy and go from there.

"We're on to the off season."

They will be back in the AFC Championship game next season (for a 6th straight time), and how much you want to bet that in the off-season, they find a way to beef-up the offensive line and protect Brady. I'll tell you one thing, George, if I had any doubts about Brady being the best ever, he went a long way to dispelling them yesterday. Despite being hit 20 times (the Giants only hit him 19 times in Super Bowl XLII) he was still a missed extra-point away from getting to overtime against the #1 defense on the road in extremely adverse (mile-high) conditions. Plus, if they had opted for the field goal with 6:25 remaining, they probably win the game in regulation. Brady is as good as it gets, enjoy him for the next 3-5 years, before father time finally catches up with him.

Good points Louis.

The Patriots blew it yesterday by going for it on 4th and 6 with about six minutes left; they were down 8 points, so in my mind, that is two scores as you cannot assume you're going to make the 2 point conversion, should have kicked the field goal there, the TD with 17 seconds left would have won it.

Denver scored a measly 3 points in the second half, they weren't doing anything offensively, so kick the field goal and trust your defense to get you the ball back.

As much as I don't like Manning (sorry, his "Aw shucks" cornfed yahoo act doesn't fly with me, this is a guy who threw his offensive line, offensive coordinator and his kicker under the bus while in Indy), he realizes he's no longer "the guy" anymore, just manage the game, don't screw up and rely on your defense to win you the game.

Yesterday, he took two or three sacks where in the past, he would have put the ball up for grabs; that said, yesterday on their last drive, he threw a duck down the sideline that Butler should have picked off.

I don't see anyway they can hang with Carolina, no way that offense is scoring 24 points; they have to depend on Newton crapping himself in the spotlight, Carolina turning the ball over multiple times and the defense playing the game of their lives.

Don't see it happening but I didn't see Denver winning yesterday either.

What a nutpunch.

Ok, so here on Boston sports talk radio they have a segment called "Sounds of Sunday" where they play radio broadcast calls from around the league.

So today, they play some of the calls from the Carolina radio team.

On the Newton TD run "There goes Cam!!........he's in, TD!!............Wow, he just flew thru da air on dat one, He's SUPERMAN, man, that run was like No he Didn't!!!"............?????

On the Kuckle INT for a pic 6; "Dare goes Luke............TD LUKE!!!!!!!!.............Oh ya, he did.........LLLUUUUUKKKKEEEEEE!!!!!!............."LUKE DARE IT IS, LUKE DARE IT IS, LLLLLUUUUUUKKKKKEEEE!!!!!!"

These are profesional announcers we're talking about, not fans in the stands.

This team has a shot to win the Super Bowl.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

I find it sad what passes for professional journalism in today's world or professionalism in general.

TD

The radio announcers are paid by the team and more often than not seem to be a bit on the homer side.

I fully understand that the majority of the home radio play by play teams are usually made up of a professional voice who calls a great game, stoic, measured, well versed, but why do they all and I mean ALL of them use some yahoo former player/local personality who is some boob that is in the background yelling, screaming, using slang, it's so annoying.

Whoever the color guy is in Carolina takes the cake..............

Gents,

Carolina put a school yard whooping on the Cardinals last night and beat them with the ugly stick. They will be going into the Super Bowl on a "Natural High" of epic proportions. They are at their peak. The did not barely make it to the Super Bowl (like the Broncos) they man handled their way all season long like a boss. Cam and company are on fire and they are so pumped up right now, that the fervor for the flavor of playing and winning the Super Bowl has got to be unbearable. The only prescription is: MORE COW BELL!!!

Unknown-1.jpeg

Now, the Broncos watched the game last night too and you know they are thinking "Dayum did you just see that?". So, I guarantee that all they are going to be doing is trying come up with a strategy to play against them. Are they at their peak? I don't know...maybe some players are, but we do know that Manning isn't. He's an old wounded soldier in the NFL at 39 years old and his troops know it. The burden on the Defense is going to be so great that I think Cam Newton should be calling Brady and asking for pointers on how not to get sacked. To me, the Bronco defense is going to be out for Newtons blood, because I am sure they can't stand his antics when they score or his celebrated "flops". You think Brady had it bad, I think Newton is in for a run for his money.

But, Newton is agile, strong and fast. However, his confidence and attitude may be his achilles heel if he starts to believe in the hype that is being written about him the moment the game ended last night. Likewise, if Manning and company begin to fall into the hype of hopelessly losing the Superbowl that too may be their achilles heel.

So, what to do? How will it come out? I think it will be a battle of wills and mental toughness first, strategy second and physicality-first, last and always. If not it will be "the horror":

Unknown-2.jpeg

The only way the Broncos can win is if they go to the SuperBowl with the attitude that this game is absolute last game they will ever play in their lives. And that they must take everything to field, leave it on the field and come back with nothing from the field. Except victory.

Mike,

Gotta love it. Even though Taiwan is getting hammered with the cold weather snap, they follow American football and have a great sense of humor about the NFL games. Love the Manning scooter!

funniest thing to me was when Manning threw a pass 2 yards and then punched Brady off the porcelain throne...

gotta give them credit...

both Brady and Manning got equal ridicule...

Manning in a walker and Gronk held together with nuts and bolts...

just too funny...

George:

I was able to watch the Brady and Belichick post game press conferences last night. Every great team should watch and learn from them. The were pure class. They congratulated the Broncos, they refused to use injuries as an excuse and they defended their kicker.

The Patriots do not lose very often so they don't have much practice when it comes to handling the aftermath of a loss. With that being said they seem to live by one of the greatest mantras in sports, win with class and lose with class.

They will be back in it next year, little consolation now, but it is something.

Try listening to the NHL sometime on the radio. I discovered by accident that the games are on satellite radio. There are no yahoo homers like NHL announcers. The canadian teams seem to be the worst. I think they are smashed half the time and they all have the former player with brain damage crying about the refs etc.

Growing up listening to Cardinal baseball on the radio Harry Carey was the announcer. First he was drunked up and leaving a hooker at a St Louis hotel and got hit by a car, almost killed him. Then as the story goes he was having an affair with Gussie Busch,s wife, the owner of the Cardinals and was fired from his broadcasting job. When interviewed that night he was holding a can of Millers beer. Go to You Tube and watch some Harry Carey impersonators, hilarious!
