NFL Season 2016-17 (2 Viewers)

I watched 2 games yesterday, the Bills vs. the Patriots and the Eagles vs. the Cowboys.

My guess is that the Cowboys and Patriots are the best teams from the AFC and NFC respectively. My other guess is that the Patriots are the better of the two. If they stay healthy, the Patriots are likely going to win the Super Bowl and that means that Goodell is going to have to hand the trophy the Brady. Wow.

NFL viewership continues to flounder, down by 19 percent for Sunday night, 24 percent for Monday night and 18 percent for Thursday night.

This past Sunday night should have been an attractive game -- Cowboys vs Eagles -- but Game 5 of the World Series trounced it.

Most games seem uninteresting now; too many mediocre teams and too many penalties, especially on unsportsmanlike calls. The NFL is reverting to the No Fun League.

To your point about penalties, which really disrupt whatever flow these games can get going, the Oakland Raiders set an NFL record on Sunday by being flagged 33 times times in one game. Absolutely astounding. And they won! :rolleyes2: Personally, I didn't watch any of those night games, so there is part of the viewing decline. -- Al

That is odd to me. The NFL has ridden a wave of popularity in recent years like no other sport. Maybe this is just an ovedue correction. I understand ESPN is suffering as well losing millions of viewers. More competition and pricing themselves out of the market haven't helped. I agree there are too many teams in every professional sport but that has been the case for many years. Also too many games played. It is ridiculous.

I'm not sure what is the reason; many have mentioned that the election has consumed a lot of people's attention. Be that as it may, it's surprising the World Series beat what was apparently great game.

My apologies. I didn't proof read my post and it has been brought to my attention that the Raiders penalty total was 23, not 33, as I typed. My bad.:redface2: -- Al

still a number of magnanimous proportions...

Del Rio needs to address that...

23 penalties and they still won the game?

yes...

Carr had 513 in the air...

and if you add the probably 150-200 he lost in the air to penalties...

it would have been a crazy amount of passing yardage...

that game lasted 4 hours...

The Raiders are a good, albeit young team. Although youth is not an excuse for all of those penalties.

they are very good...

Carr is pretty awesome...

he has a really strong arm...

I'm most surprised in watching Minnesota the last 2 weeks...
the Eagles defense and pass rush is really good...
so I understood that game...

but Chicago last night really surprised me...

Mike:

I was happy for Cutler in that Monday night game, as he gets blamed far more than he deserves. Also, teams have figured out that the Vikings have no offensive line, thus simple blitzes and a decent pass rush can beat them.

So the Ravens beat the Steelers, the Colts beat the Packers, the Giants beat the Eagles and the Lions beat the Vikings.

See, this is why I do not gamble on a regular basis.

The NFC positively stinks this year.

all you need to do is bet on NE every week and you'll be fine...^&grin

George,

The Giants didn't beat the Eagles, the Eagles coach beat the Eagles. He left a lot of points on the board going for it on 4th downs well within field goal range. The Giants cannot truly beat anyone because they have such a lousy offensive line that they are dead last in rushing. And their Defense gives up way too many big plays, despite playing far better in the read zone than I expected. Until the Giants replace Jerry Reece with a GM who isn't stupid enough to pass up a true left tackle with a top 3 grade like Jeremy Maclin (oh what a shock, he smoked pot in college!) for a cornerback with a mid-second round grade like Eli Appel, who got absolutely exposed today as yet another bad 1st round pick by Reece, this team will never pose a threat to beat a good team.

The Raiders are slapping the Donkos all over the field tonight.

They are the #2 team in the AFC behind New England, the Chefs are #3, Denver is #4, Steelers have slipped to #5, but as long as they get Big Ben back, they'll be fine.............

afraid they are gonna expose the Dallas secondary next week...

Big Ben will be mad...
it's a must win for them...
they are at home...

can't believe the line is only Pitt -3...

I stand corrected as Roethlisberger played yesterday.

He stunk.

They lost.

They're now 4-4, their defensive is the problem, it's putrid.
