Of course it was a sports writer, doing his primary job - gathering eyeballs. No doubt his editors were ecstatic when they saw all the forwards and shares from reved up AF fans! Not to mention the usual Pats folks. You know how it works, if it ain't controversial nobody reads you. Thats the way the newspaper game is played.
Atlanta will enjoy this SB immensely. It's not our first, but it's our first with a bonafide super team that stormed its way into the playoff by soundly beating some very good teams. They are not there by luck or good fortune. They are there because they are a healthy, disciplined, well coached, talented bunch of guys who, from what I read, genuinely like each other. I also understand they are one of the few NFL teams with "no kneelers" if you know what I mean. Perhaps that's a partially legitimate reason to call them Americas team. Lol
Moreover, I would say, they don't seem too impressed with themselves. Getting there is great but losing the SB is nodbodys idea of a good time. The way they performed in the playoffs gives me hope they will act like they've been there before, and won't be intimidated by the media, hoopla or other distractions.
Atlanta is thrilled this has happened. Arthur Blank seems to be a good guy, down to earth and just happy to be a part of all the fun. That said, his ex-wife has a place a few floors above me, and she may have a different opinion.
I just hope the Falcons play well and put their best effort forward. If they get beat by bad luck or a superior team, so be it. I won't be happy but I'll be OK that sometimes the universe loves ya, other times it doesn't.
Good luck George....or maybe rather I wish your team no bad luck.
I hope the good luck comes our way. And who knows, maybe Atlanta is on its way to becoming a perennial contender for as long as Ryan is around. They appear to have the nuclei and the leadership. Sometimes success is a killer though.
Regardless, I think I'll be exhausted by the time the game is actually played.
Go Falcons!
