Nfl season 2017-2018 (1 Viewer)

Maybe all will be good:

White initially called Gronkowski a dirty player after the Dec. 3 game in Buffalo that left White in the NFL’s concussion protocol. On Tuesday, during an appearance on SiriusXM radio, he said he’s reconsidered, and that a victory is the only revenge he is seeking.

“As I had time to think about it, I knew that he wasn’t that type of player. We just honed in and moved on from it,’’ White said. “I get to see him Sunday and the best way that I can handle that situation is just try and go in there and get a big ol’ W in their stadium and help our playoff chances. I’m not a guy that’s going to try to do a cheap shot after the whistle or nothing. I’m going to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played and respect the game. Just like I said, going in there and winning would be the best revenge.’’

Players have long memories. It may not happen this weekend but it will happen and whatever Gronkowski receives, he will deserve it.

Mike,
Most importantly, did the line stay at Patriots -2.5 as if so, you won 27-26.5 then, right?

That's all that matters..............:wink2:

George...

it went to 3 1/2...
at least that's what my guy had...
so...I had a loser...
2 weeks in a row...
usually a sure thing...
still...I bet NE covers over 70% year in...year out...
one of the best teams to bet in NFL against the spread...
I have told you before...
they are always the best team against the spread cause Brady knows how to give a knockout punch early...
and late too...
he will run up the score given the chance...

but I did good this week...

for the most part I bet against teams that Dallas needed to lose to get a miracle invitation...

and that paid well...

I would like them to make the playoffs...
but it's a long shot to win out...
and an even longer shot to get the right combination of losses from the rest of the league...

and in all honesty...

they really suck this year...
can't be competitive without Sean Lee...Zeke...and Tyron...
all our Pro Bowlers missed too many games...
bad year to be a Cowboy fan...

Crap, sorry about that Mike...................I hope for your sake Dallas gets in, don't give up just yet, still two games to go.

Players have long memories. It may not happen this weekend but it will happen and whatever Gronkowski receives, he will deserve it.

So basically, what you're saying is a Bills player is going to purposely take Gronk's knee out, intentionally try to injure him and end his career?

Players aren't that dumb; show me a time when someone ended another guys career on purpose as retaliation.

The Bills should worry more about actually winning the game and making the playoffs instead of vigilante justice.

Jack Tatum put Daryl Stingley in a wheel chair and I don't recall any Patriot player having a long memory and taking Tatum out.

Nonsense.

George...

it really doesn't matter if they get in anyway...

they can't beat anybody that's already in...

if by some miracle they get in...

they are a one trick pony...

stop the run and they can't do anything...

Dez is worth 1/2 or less what they are paying him...

Whitten will be eligible to draw social security in a few years...he's old man...

nobody can run a route for separation...

they got so many problems...I don't know where to begin...

Didn't have you pegged as a fan of vigilante justice! {sm3}

No, I never said that. You are a lawyer, right? :wink2:

Again, I didn’t say that but players do want to get even in some way. Inasmuch as Buffalo is fighting for a playoff spot, they won’t do anything in this game, not to mention the Refs and the League will be watching.

As I said, players have long memories and I’m sure the Buffalo players won’t forget what took place.

Jack Tatum is a bad example, other players legitimately feared him, he was a true bad *** on the field and not a nice one off of it. There was an interview that Jack Lambert gave a long time ago about Tatum and those were more or less his words. AND if anyone doesn't remember Lambert or why this is significant, Lambert himself was borderline psycho and still is to some degree. I am not sure he would pass most Teams psyche tests in today's NFL. Tatum would not at all. That particular Raider was more fact than fiction of the Raider mystique.

Regarding getting even, I think White's statement shows a lot of class and is the right thing to say. Gronk probably doesn't have too much to worry about because he has never been a dirty player. However, Brad has a point all you have to do is take a look at Burfict - Ramon Foster of the Steelers has all but said it for the last few years that they take advantage of any shot on him they can b/c of his past actions. In his case, they do have memories and I can guarantee it is not only the Steelers - Yanda of the Ravens has said the same thing locally many times. Difference is Burfict is a dirty player.

On another note, sorry George, but I am routing for the Bills this weekend, I am sure it is a futile effort, but you never know, Pats will have to play instead of resting til the end, I think that is good for the overall competition of the playoffs.

Players know the window is small for careers in the NFL as it is, players don't intentionally go around trying to hurt someone unless there is a track record of a player being dirty and trying to injure, like Burfict two years ago in the playoffs tried to take Brown's head off with a cheap shot. For the most part, players respect other players and how they are all just trying to make a living playing football.

Yeah, I'd expect you to be rooting for the Bills as if the Patriots win out, they get HFA for as long as they are in the playoffs.

Same would be the case if the Patriots hadn't lost to the Doofins two weeks ago and had lost to the Steelers.

I'd be pulling for the Texans and/or the Browns.

Insert you laugh track here for either of those two teams beating Pittsburg.

If the Patriots lose at home to either the Bills or the Jets after that huge win on Sunday, they don't deserve to make the playoffs, nevermind HFA.

Heard a commentator on the NFL Network say there's a strong possibility the rule will be changed regarding a catch and the "Survive the ground" aspect will be eliminated, so going forward, if you bobble/loose control of the ball when hitting the ground, it's still a catch and also, a caveat will be added to rule the ball dead, ie, the ground cannot cause a fumble.

He also went on to say this will be the fourth rule change put in place after a Patriots win;

1.) The tuck rule after the Raiders playoff game (even though Woodson smacked Brady in the head on that play, which is a penalty today)
2.) Defensive pass interference after the Patriots manhandled the Dolts in the 2003 AFCCG; it was changed from you could not contact a receiver once the ball was in the air to no contact after five yards thanks to Polian whining to the rules committee afterward. With the rules change in place, they then beat the Dolts 20-3 in the playoffs the following year.
3.) Elligible receiver rules after the Ravens whined to the league after the 2014 playoff game where Harbaugh did not know the rules and blew a gasket.

Keep changing the rules, that's fine by the Patriots.

The most comical aspect of all of this is listening to Steelers fan complaining on the local sports talk radio program about how the Steelers got screwed thanks to a BS rule; the host of the program then quipped "I find this funny coming from you considering the launching of the Steeler dynasty was the result of an illegal play, ie, the immaculate reception as when the Raiders player drilled the Steelers receiver, the ball hit the receiver, Franco Harris caught it and ran it in for a TD. Back then, it was illegal for the ball to go from one offensive player to another, but the refs did not call it, mainly so they could escape Pittsburg with their lives".....................and please, no posts of the Zapruder film frame by frame claiming the ball did not hit the receiver as it's clear as day from every angle shown of that play that it did..............................

I read the same thing which is what I based my thoughts on, they are probably going to change the rule, not sure if it will make it better or not.

And just so this is not too homer on here, we are going fair and balanced, I want to tell you and I don't remember who the station is, it was on my Sirius on Monday Morning on the Mad Dog Sports Channel, both guys were Patriots and they indicated they thought it was a crap call on the field!!!

Of course and I agree when they pointed out that if the Steelers had taken care of their own business, that controversial play would not have happened!

End of day, this game is not going to matter, the next few weeks are all that counts and the Pats and Steelers could easily find themselves both sitting home sooner than they want. Every game is different and neither of these teams this year are consistently great. All you have to do is look at the losses and some wins by both and in some instances a lot of luck carried the day! They are certainly not worthy of the previous dynastys of each franchise, at least not yet. If either win it all, then all of the flubs, luck will be forgotten and they will become "one of the greatest teams ever", it is amazing how that works out. I still say there are quite a few dangerous teams that will be in the mix - Ravens, Jaguars, Saints, Falcons, etc. Every team who gets in at this point can win it, it is all about who gets hot and who is consistently good. The regular season will be forgotten quickly.

Couldn't agree more, no one team sticks out to me as the clear cut favorite.

This year reminds me of 2013 when the Browns won the Super Bowl largely thanks to some moron defensive back for Denver who committed the cardinal sin of letting a receiver get behind him, Flacco heaved a prayer downfield that was answered, they tied the game, won it in OT and then came here and destroyed the Patriots, that's the game afterward where that choir boy Suggs with a face only a Mother could love was screaming all sorts of obscenities in the tunnel heading back to the locker room about Brady and the Patriots.

No one other than Sammy thought they had a shot that year, but there you go.

I would not be surprised if neither of these two teams get to the AFCCG, fluky things happen in the playoffs, teams get hot and get on a roll and that's that.

Just glad to be part of the mix..................

In my book the Patriots are the favorites to win the Super Bowl based on one thing from last year's Super Bowl win:

Last year they won the Super Bowl without Gronkowski.

True... we also have Edelman, cannon and Hightower on IR though

Zach:

Agreed, they do have some other key injuries.

I just think that Gronkowski gives them a chance to win high scoring games that are close in the 4th quarter as seen against Pittsburgh. I also think the addition of Cooks is underrated.

Yup, I think the pats will be fine. I don’t know of any team fully healthy come playoffs.

The addition of Britt is flying under the radar; he's the classic "X" receiver, while Cooks is a classic "Y" receiver, the former is bigger and gets off the line quickly, the latter is smaller and relies on quickness to do it, with Britt as the X, Cooks can go back to Y and do what he does best, run deep routes while Britt will run underneath routes and Gronk will clear out the middle of the field for him, Amendola will run underneath stuff too from the slot.

Just get Branch and Van Noy healthy for the playoffs, they'll be instantly better at stopping the run and covering tight ends down the seam, they need to get Jordan Richards off the field as he sucks, he's been trying to fill Van Noys roll and has been a disaster, too small to cover big tight ends, too slow to cover backs coming out of the backfield, get Van Noy healthy is all..................

Britt is the type of player who can thrive in a Belichick coached system.
