Hearing 4 yr 71 million guaranteed for Smith

So the Redskins gave Smith, who's 34, the money they should have gave Cousins, who's a younger and better QB.

71 million GUARANTEEED for Alex Smith.

Serious question; how do Redskins fans do it?

And people wonder why the Patriots have been on a 17 year run.

Unbelievable.

George,

Nobody wonders why the the Patriots have been on a 17 year run. The greatest coach of all time plus the greatest QB of the Super Bowl era is the plain and simple explanation. Enjoy it. Runs like this are once in a lifetime if you are very lucky.

There is no comparison at all between the 2 franchises. Just look at ownership, rinse and repeat. Snyder is a joke, team management is a joke. The latest trade will make Smith the 17th starting Qb for the Skins since Snyder bought the team in 1999. A revolving door of coaches and Qb's hardly makes for a stable or winning team. How long has Brady been the Pats Qb? 18 years. Skins fans have long been fed up with Snyder and his antics and many, like me, don't really care anymore. There is no question about the Pats 17 year run, reasons are obvious. The question here is 'how much longer will Snyder continue to run the Skins into the ground?'. Unfortunately, there is no answer and no light at the end of our tunnel of horror. -- Al

I saw the Eagles coach whining last night that no one thinks they have a shot in this game.

Really?

They were the #1 seed, finished 13-3 and have a great front four that is deep and a very good offensive line that should give the immortal Nick Foles all the time in the world to dink and dunk his way down the field vs a mediocre Patriots defense, Blake Bortles put up 20 on them and all he did was dink and dunk with that high school RPO offense, the same one the Eagles run.

Nothing more annoying that watching some tomato can fake that inside handoff, pull the ball back and throw a 5 yard slant 20 times to score a TD.

The Eagles have a great shot to win this game, not sure who these people are he's referring to, the whole world is picking the Eagles.

Speaking of the Eagles, I saw on the news that ballbag hack Michael Barcamp is in Philly now, what a blowhard, no talent hack he is. I also noticed he's got hair now too, he was a coconut head when he was on our sports broadcasts up here.

Saw him windbagging that the Eagles are going to win this one easily; keep yapping you hack.

And who's the other Philly sports stooge who looks like Father time who was on with one of our reporters whining about all the Patriots Super Bowl wins are tainted because they are cheaters, this nitwit looks old as dirt, white hair and some Civil War era spinach chin looking beard.

Stop whining, it's a bad look, act like you've been there before.

All coaches talk up the opponent. Lou Holtz was the master at Notre Dame. ND could be the #1 ranked team playing St. Mary's school for the blind that week and Lou would proclaim that ND had no chance. Then they would go out and win 100-0. I think it would be a borderline miracle, though, for the Eagles to win without Wentz. Not impossible but almost. The Pats are just too good and well coached. Their defense was outstanding against the Jags. They gave Brady a chance with several big stops in the 4th quarter. They don't beat themselves with mistakes. They seem to get most of the calls. They have no apparent weaknesses. A tough nut to beat them even when they don't sneak into your locker room and steal the playbook or film your practices.

Our office just got an email from Secretary Robin Weissmann, the Secretary of the Pa Department of Banking and Securities, ie- my boss! :) Her and the Honorable Mr. Bryan Lantagne, the Secretary of the Massachusetts Department of Securities just entered into a friendly bet- if the Eagles win, Mr. Lantagne will send my boss a box of Boston Crème Pie Donuts and Mrs Weissmann, wagered a box of Tastykake "Dreamies" should the Pats win, Frankly, I think he deserves something a little more befitting of something you could pick up at the local sheetz for $5 {sm3}{sm4}

At best the Eagles will make a game of it, at worst it is a blow out from the get-go.

Either way they are going to lose.

C'mon Jason, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel ^&grin

Brad:

Thanks, I really needed a laugh!

I am truly hoping that it is a good game. The wife is going to our house in Austin for the weekend to babysit our granddaughter so I have a hall pass on food etc. If nothing else I will be able to enjoy a few good beers.

I tend to disagree- while I think the Pats will win, they really don't have much of a recent history of blowing people out. Last years SB, which was the most thrilling game in NFL history, wasn't a blow out, a lot of people expected it to be. They didn't blow the Jags out, Titans, yeah, but they really don't have much of a history of blowing people out- they just win. Teams that blow people out are typically your one sided teams- great offense or great D, the PAts are just as balanced as anyone in the history of the game. Being balanced means staying close, staying poised and being cool under pressure- which the PAts are in spades.

The iggles need to be up 42-0 at halftime otherwise, this game is a Pat victory. I am beyond convinced that Belichek can win when he had 30 minutes to play and down 40 points. They are just that good.

The Patriots are literally facing a back-up QB in Foles, something they have never done in a Super Bowl. It is a quarterback driven league and the Eagles are bringing a knife to a gunfight. This, will in all most likeliness not be a close game. If New England can beat the best the NFL has to offer in the regular season then I have no doubt they will handle a mediocre has-been QB in the championship. Close or not, there is no way the Patriots lose. Only the Warriors in the NBA and the UConn women in the NCAAW tournament are safer bets than this.

Don't sell Foles short; I think he has shaken off the rust and he has had good years.

Who says a backup QB can't win? In the history of Super Bowls, there was a backup QB who led his team to a win after the team's regular QB was injured during the regular season. This team, like the Eagles, had a powerful defense and faced a team that had a high flying offense. The QB was Jeff Hostetler and the team was the 1990-1991 Giants. It can be done.

The local news here was interviewing the local VFW guys about the game. They are all apparently boycotting it. The NFL is in big trouble when a bunch of old guys with nothing much to do won't watch the Super Bowl even with a local team playing in it.

Brad:

I actually like Foles, he is a native of Austin.

Great points about back-up QB's. I am not saying that a back-up has never won a Super Bowl, nor am I saying that it won't happen again. I am saying that a back-up QB will never beat a Belichick led Patriots team in the Super Bowl.

It may be because I’m a pats fan so I get nervous, but I think this will be a closer game than many think.

Why not. It's not as if he is the second coming. Anything is possible.

It's predicted to a very close game. That means it will probably be a blowout.

Game day is finally here, been a long two weeks.

Been a Patriots fan for 50 years, ever since my Dad took me to my first game in 1968 at Fenway park vs the Houston Oilers, they lost 14-0, but I was hooked.

Had seasons tickets for a time, went to the Squish the Fish game in Miami, was thrilled they won and finally got to a Super Bowl.

The past 17 years have been quite a ride; 12 AFCCG's, 8 trips to the Super Bowl.

EIGHT.

As a fan, it's been great, despite all the haters out there with their snarky comments about cheating and all the other nonsense I have to listen to.

Win today and finish the job, make America whine again.

Win the game today not for me, but for my Dad, who passed away last February 23rd.

Win it for him.
