Speaking of playoffs. As you know I have season tickets for the Blues. Just paid for this years playoff tickets, now with this price it would mean the Blues would play 4 home games for all 4 series, total 16 games.
The playoff tickets cost more than the entire season tickets, all the same seats. Now I see why financially it,s so important to go deep in the playoffs.

As an AHL season ticket holder, one strange thing I've noticed about the playoffs is that better seats open up for those games. So I never renew my season ticket seats, but simply buy for the individual playoff games as tickets go on sale. I think because many who occupy those seats during the regular season are uncertain if or when a playoff game will be played until only a few days beforehand, they don't reserve their seats for the playoffs. Even though the Hershey Bears draw 10K most nights, you can get great playoff seats that you couldn't buy for any regular season game. Front row sometimes.

There are 4 teams now in the West with 100 points or more. And Chicago has 99. The LA Kings may finish with the best record in their history but will finish no higher than 6th in the west. This may be the strongest field of teams in history. Boston is on fire in the east, but the Pens are struggling.

I am really hoping that this is my Shark's year. However St. Louis looks tough and Boston looks even more formidable.

Each day there is another incredible team in the headlines. The playoffs should be amazing.

My early guess at the finals? Blues v Bruins.

Please no more Stanley Cup playoff talk! The Blues have lost 5 straight and 7 of their top 9 forwards are hurt. Ryan Miller looks horrible, it looks like they will play the Blackhawks in the first round. Just a week ago I was ready to hoist the cup, now I would not be surprised if they go 4 and out in the 1st round.
Oh woe is me!

The Blackhawks seem to be tanking a bit recently, but that is a tough draw in the first round. At least it is not the Kings though. LA seems to have the Blues number in the playoffs. If the Kings win or go to OT tonight, then six teams in the West end the season with 100 or more points.

We are finally down to the playoffs! Time to pick'em:

East:

Boston 4 Detroit 1 - the Bruins haven't lost two in a row all season! Anything other than the Cup will be a huge disappointment. Detroit will make them earn it, though.

Philadelphia 4 New York Rangers 2 - The Flyers are hot. This series could go either way, but I like the way Philly has been playing.

Tampa Bay 4 Montreal 2 - Tampa may be the second best team in the east right now.

Columbus 4 Pittsburgh 2 - Going with a big upset here. The Pens haven't impressed me. Columbus is a solid team. Absent a major choke job or the refs giving calls to the NHL network darlings, the Blue Jackets make this a six or seven game series.

West:

Chicago 4 St. Louis 3 - Another upset. The Blues are banged up and playing with no confidence. Chicago is a tough draw in the first round.

Colorado 4 Minnesota 2 - Colorado is having a great season.

Anaheim 4 Dallas 1 - Anaheim is just too good. They steamroll the Stars.

San Jose 4 LA 3 - The Kings are a great playoff team. They play physical, have great goal tending and a couple of scorers, but SJ matches up well against them. This might be the best of the first round series and could go either way. The Kings run hot and cold. Hard to know which team will show up, but I think SJ holds serve at home and wins.

Combat I pretty much agree except I don,t think anyway Columbus will beat Pittsburg, Montreal and Tampa a toss up.
If Blues win the first game I think they will get their mojo back and take the series in 7, if they loose that first game I wouldn,t be surprised to see them out in 5.

The Bruins finish with their best record in forever, plus they win the presidents trophy with the most points, home ice throughout the playoffs.

Their reward; they get Detroit in the first round. A team that has given them fits this year and just about every year I can remember.

Some reward.

I hope Doug is right regarding his prediction; I don't see a walkover, I see a 7 game war. If the Bruins get knocked out, I would not be shocked.

Detroit; unreal.

George for the last 40 some odd years we (St Louis) had to put up with Detroit, and for the most part they kicked our ---. But they don,t scare me anymore, you will beat them, no problem.

From your lips to Gods ears.

I find it ironic that Detroit gets moved east and the first year match up is them vs the Bruins.

Again, I'm prepared for the worst, hoping for the best; they are the team that stopped the Bruins 16 game unbeaten streak and they played about 500 hockey down the stretch after that loss, so we'll see.............

The thing about Detroit is that they have been playing hurt all year long. I'm shocked they even made the playoffs this year but the youngsters who were brought up stepped their game up in the home stretch. Now the wings are getting healthy so one of 2 things will happpen. 1 their studs will be back but won't gel on time to pull out a series win or 2 they gel and a sleeping giant will be awakened. Just saying don't ever count the Wings out until it's over. Last year's Stanley Cup champions the Blackhawks almost learned that the hard way last year when they fell behind in the series 3-1 before making a come back. For the record I still think Boston will win but I still think the wings will make a series of it. Usually I root for the Bruins but NOT when they play the wings, sorry George^&grin. Gary the only reason you don't fear the Wings anymore is because you don't have to play them now, lol.

Interested to see if Columbus can make a series of it with the Pens. They are a solid team but lack playoff experience. George I wouldn't worry too much about Detroit. They may get one at home and keep a couple games close, but have no chance.

Here is my hope for the playoffs:

I hope the Sharks win it all and if they don't I hope they finally fire Doug Wilson.

Zetterberg is back at practice and it's looking like he might try playing in this series. With him and Datsyuk back it really bolsters Detroits lineup.

Montreal and Tampa turned out to be an entertaining game. At one point Montreal had out shot them something like 40-12 and the score was tied at 3! LOL. I didn't realize Tampa was starting a goalie who has a sub-.500 record for the season, though. The Pens were down 3-1 at one point to the Blue Jackets and I was starting to feel like Nostradamus, but one thing they can do is score. I still think that series goes at least six games. Fleury looks shaky in goal. So they aren't going far.

Yeah, it's easy to score when you get 900 power play opportunities, unreal how slanted the ice was last night.

And yes, Fleury is just awful, never seen a goalie fight the puck as much as him; in one sequence, he looked like he was trying to pick up a frog with a pair of salad tongs.

In about a half hour I will be heading to the Scotttrade Center for the Blues Blackhawks game. In a way I feel how GI,s must have felt in those higgins boats heading towards Omaha Beach. In my case the Germans are replaced by Hawk fans.
A quick 3 goal lead should silence them, otherwise it,s been nice knowing all of you!!!
