NOR013-NOR025 Waffen-SS for the Battle of Normandy!! (4 Viewers)

Alex, I think First Legion already does. I saw that at least in the past Matt was offering a painting service bringing any of his figures up to St. Petersburg standard. I just do not recall ever someone posting a picture of what that figure would look like or how expensive the service is. But with Matt's excellent connections into the Russian toy soldier industry, I would not be surprised if that service would be very competitive and resulted in a truly high quality figure.

Having said that, I think the general First Legion offering already meets the "P" standard. Just not yet the "St. Pete" standard. ^&grin

I've never really understood the comments regarding faces in the Stalingrad range. For the most part I think they are really well done with many unique looking individuals. As for the helmets being too small, I don't see that either. German helmets were produced in 7 different standard sizes as well as special order larger sizes. The liner circumference was not adjustable meaning an appropriate close fitting liner and associated shell were required for a proper fit.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for taking the time to post the head shots. Much appreciated. Definitely look better in your photographs. The stock photos on FL's website don't do justice to the detail sometimes, which I think may be part of the face issue on my part. I've always been more impressed when I have them in hand. I've used your Stalingrad pictures recently to help me decide on a purchase I wasn't thinking about otherwise, and was happy I made once I received it. Look forward to more of your work!

Agreed, To me FL is already at the P level. And forgot about the special service they offer.

from what I saw, the upcoming vignettes painted to a higher level will be on par with current Aeroart releases, if not better... can't wait to see those !

Thanks for posting the side by side photos Frank, and I totally agree with you I never could figure out the complaints on the facial stuff or helmets, as the facial features are to me what I would exspect the troops to looke like in Stalingrad, but then again everyone sees things different, and I'll leave it at that, to each there own.

back to the new SS, the poses are another great thing about this range, some troops lying on the ground, runners, and of course some poses in battle action, gives a collector some good choices to choose from when building a small or large dio or just stand alone will look just as nice...Sammy

the 17 th SS, with STG 44 equipment, I spent a good few hours looking for some info on the STG 44, and yes the 17th SS in Normandy were issued this gun, so I will definitly be buying the 2 SS First Legion sets for my Normandy dio to do battle with the 101st...Sammy

First Legion is extremely pleased to present the highly anticipated expansion for our Battle of Normandy figure range, the Waffen-SS!! The Waffen-SS was initially created as the armed wing of the Nazi Party, but gradually over the course of the war was expanded to some 38 divisions. They fought on both the Eastern and Western front alongside the Heer Divisions of the German Army. They were typically given priority for equipment and were, at least initially, made up of the most loyal and die hard soldiers. As such they proved extremely capable in battle with the tank divisions in particular being most feared by their opposition. Created for our Battle of Normandy range, these extremely flexible toy soldiers can be used as Panzer Grenadiers from just about any Waffen-SS division including 12th SS Hitler Jugend, 1st SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, 17th SS Gotz von Berlichingen, 2nd SS Das Reich, 9th SS Hohenstaufen, or 10th SS Frundsberg. Our inspiration was to have them as members of the 17th SS opposing the US Paratroopers at the Battle of Bloody Gulch famously depicted in the mini-series Band of Brothers, however, as you can see they can represent any of these formations. With this latest expansion of our Battle of Normandy figure range the US now have some opposition as the Waffen-SS take the field!

is this price correct ....NOR016 Waffen-SS Panzer Grenadier MG42 Team - $64.95 . same price for a single ... ????

These figures are extremely well done, love the figures with the pea dot and oakleaf camo worn together. Also like the camo covers on the helmets, these figures scream bocage country, Caen, battle of the hedgerows.

Nice mix of ankle and jackboots, not every German post 1944 had ankle boots, also like the non camo pants on some of them.

Response has been very good so far.............

I've seen this picture mislabeled before. It's my understanding that it was taken by SS-PK Pospesch in October 1944 in Holland and the unit is Frundsberg. Here is some discussion regarding the picture including input from the author Charles Trang

The best book on the Sturmgewehr I've read is "Sturmgewehr!-From Firepower to Striking Power" by Hans-Dieter Handrich

I have to admit that I was struck by the head/helmet size of FL Germans at first, but then I dissected the problem. Being an old timer as most of us probably are, my first exposure to German headgear was primarily through Nazi propaganda photos, chiefly Signal. Those photos were cherry picked for very photogenic soldiers. On top of that, pics after '43 are mainly of the SS superhumans in M43 helmets, which always give off a slightly larger appearance because of the rolled edge. When I started collecting Heer divisional histories and their pics of the non superhumans in M35/40 helmets, they started putting FL figs a lot more in perspective. German heads came in all sizes and there were lots of fat heads in M35/40 helmets which comes off as a tight fit, but that was reality. Hollywood types made it to Signal & the world

WOW , That's a very expensive toy , is it a non-gun or fully operational ? I have a good friend and fellow collector who has a papered one that is transferable and for sale but at about $30,000.00 its out of my range . I'm thinking about the 22 version that is made by GSG in Germany and imported into the states by American Tactical Imports looks and feels good and at about $625.00 is a lot cheaper and with 22 cal would be cheap to shoot as well. I know its a cheap substitute but hey what can I say:redface2: . Anyway congratulations on having one what a lucky guy always wanted one but it just never worked out . I will most definitely be getting First Legions Panzer Grenadier Sniper with Scoped STG 44 its a Great looking figure and with the quality of FL's Sculpting you can actually see the details in both the gun and scope which is most important to me . regards Gebhard

The Waffen SS figures look outstanding and I can't wait to add them to my collection in July. The camouflage detailing looks amazing and I am sure will look spectacular in hand. Matt and the First Legion team, as usual, continue to build on an awesome Normandy series! First Legion rocks! :salute::

Alex

The camo on these new sets is very well done, just looking at the MG team (my personal fave of these releases) and the pea pattern is very good indeed. Excellent looking set that one.

Rob

I totally agree , it's the first in the series that I will own . I have been collecting Camo for over 30 years and these are the best renderings of Waffen SS camo I have ever seen and I have been looking for almost as long.. Cheers Gebhard

Hi ,
Thanks for the response, I'm actually familiar with this company and their models and have held one and fired one at the BOTB re-enactment in PA they are not cheap and very very nice ...sorry about the partner :wink2:. I forgot you live in the UK where gun laws are well lets just say a topic for another thread :wink2:. I think I will get one of these http://www.americantactical.us/3108/detail.html like I mentioned they are a lot cheaper to own and shoot and it would be a fun plinker. Here is a video of one in action and no that's not me {eek3}:wink2:http://www.gunblast.com/GSG-StG44.htm regards Gebhard

I actually have gotten to fire an MP-44 for about 50 rounds. Very, very cool and got to cross it off my bucket list.

As for the figures, these look amazing. Lately, I have been feeling many items in my Collection appear too "Toy-like" and have started looking at FL. The prices do give me pause, but I am considering downsizing the collection to cherry-pic pieces going forward.

With Waffen SS figures, I have a feeling it is only time before first legion does a Panther or Tiger tank. Based off the level of detail on the Panzer IIIs and other vehicles, that would make me go all in.
