Normandy 1944 (1 Viewer)

Frank, Is that the new First Legion Sherman???.....That is a great looking tank and in perfect scale with the US Normandy Troops....Simply excellent as usual.:salute::

Always like these scenes, they are so bright and crisp, really compliment the vehicles and figures. Robin.

Thanks for the kind comments

The Sherman is the Honour Bound M4A1 "Gold Edition"

The grass is the TM Terrain ground work tiles created for my "Russian Farm" dio. Essentially it's a mix of 6mm and 10mm static grass and a textured road element.

Frank, it is incredible how the grass and the back drop blend. Also, the lighting direction and how it casts shadows to match the back drop. I am assuming you removed teh bases as well. What did you use for the grass may I ask? Is it a mat? This is really amazing. Chris

This is the result of some post production in Photoshop. Steps include:
  • Crop to frame correctly
  • Change the color of the foreground grass using the Replace Color tool. This includes changing the hue of the grass towards blue (which creates green) and desaturating the color until foreground and background match
  • Paint out ground work tile join and figure bases using the Clone Stamp tool
  • Digital sharpening to reduce diffraction caused by f/16 aperture setting. The small aperture is required to provide sufficient depth of field.
  • Create two additional crops for "close ups" of parts of the scene

Man o man is that Honor Bound armor terrific. Great photos Frank.

Beautiful scene as usual. The Sherman looks fantastic.

Frank appreciate the response and the "before and after" on the image. I may have to give this a try. Still, it is just stunning on the final image and just excellent work all around. Again thanks for sharing. Chris

Splendid photos of your WW2 diorama of 101st U.S. Army Airborne troops in action!

"Iron Brigade"

Fabulous scene once again Frank! And what a great looking Sherman. I hope the FL Sherman will approach the HB quality.

Wow these scenes are fantastic.

How do you incorporate the "sky background" into the photo?

Walt

Thanks guys

The sky backgrounds I use are mostly pictures I have taken from various places and times near my home. I then crop and enlarge them to 72" x 24" and hang them on the wall using a poster hanger.

Different scene showing background image

Fantastic ! Looks so real. Always enjoy your work. The tiger scene is also terrific.

Steve

It's been a while so here is a new scene featuring FL Airborne and HB M4A1

Frank

You have really perfected the art of hiding the figure bases through photoshop. Very nice.

Thanks

The lighting on this series was quite challenging and I settled on indirect (off the ceiling) which gave me the result I wanted. This was the first scene I put together and this was picture 34.
