Raymond,
In terms of the economy here, you may be quite right:mad:
Mike

Greg,

There is something to be said for both versions.

The 1st version Set ZDRD has all the 11 VC and 4 DCM winners plus more.

The 2nd version Set SRD needs Set ZS52 to make up all the 15 medal winners.

However, I think the figures in the Set SRD have better detail and paint finish.

Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

Hi Raymond

Set# ZDRDD should be the set all diehard AZW collectors go for as this is generally the only way to collect all the unique figures with the thick bases.

I would like set# SRD, if only to get the new version of Acting Store Keeper Byrne and the Bugler;)

Cheers

Martyn:)

Damian,

It has been very quiet. Perhaps, it is the calm before the storm.....

Raymond.:)

Looks like you got that right Raymond;)

Just over 3 hours to go and now at $1,035.00

Cheers

Martyn:)

Hi Martyn,

I am not trying to split hairs here, but is it ZDRDD or ZDRD ?

Actually, I think Louis Byrne looks better represented in the old version.

He was KIA at the Drift.

Thanks, Raymond.;):)

Hi Raymond

The code for the set on a March 1997 price list is ZDRDD

I agree about the figure of Louis Byrne, the older version is by far the best, the second version is very similar to a couple of the figures in ZS69 "BRITISH FALLEN IN ZULULAND 1879 and one in BD9 "THE SPEARS ARE WASHED"

Cheers

Martyn:)

I guess the newer version with the better painting might go for $2500. That is such a great set it must of hurt to let it go.

Hi Martyn,

Thanks very much for the clarification.

I am a bit surprised that ZDRDD was still being listed in March 1997.

This was about the time when SRD was released.

Best, Raymond.:)

Sold for £435.00, about £10 per figure

Cheers

Martyn:)

I think there are a few Little Legion figures in there and a few WB Indian Lancers as well as a WB Royal Marine. The Indian army figures are cool. There are quite a few Napoleonics and Boxers.

Hi Raymond

I thought so as well:confused:

Have a great Weekend

Martyn:)

I sent this to a fellow collector but I think it sums up a lot.
The thing about Trophy and WM Hocker is that they do not try and limit their sets whilst they are in production. You can back order any set in the catalogue provided the moulds are fine. The matt manufacturers for a number of reasons have limited runs and once they have sold that run you cannot buy the set any more. This creates a current demand.
The time Trophy sets sky rocketed is once the company ceased production. We are witnessing that now with Trophy. Trophy sets are now genuinely hard to come by. This was what happened when WB stopped making hollow cast lead figures in 1966. What was once a set of children's playthings, became collectible.
The set that best illustrates this from Trophy is the Duke of Brunswick standard bearer. One of these figures sold recently on e bay for 1000 GBP. I am fortunate to own one of these figures. I ordered it before Trophy ceased production and paid 20 GBP for it. It turns out according to Tommy Allison that Trophy only made about 15 in total before closing down. So by force of circumstance it has become truly a rare set.
So we did not appreciate Trophy when they were around. I mean this in the sense that we almost took it forgranted that there would always be a factory in Penarth churning out these wonderful figures. Now that is no longer the case and we have to scratch around at shows and on e bay for new figures.
