real Xmas tree or fake one?? (1 Viewer)

My boy's close friends are always shocked that every year we buy a real Christmas tree (noble fur of course) and friends at work are the same, are there any of you out there that are in the minority like me that still buy a real tree?? we had a fake tree growing up in my later teen years but when I was a child my father always bought home a real tree, and I always said when I grow up I'll always have a real tree nothing like the smell of the noble when you first put it up,just magical...this year I'm hoping to get a 12-15 footer, usually get a 10 footer, but think'n big-big this year, my dream tree is a 20 footer!!!! maybe next year...Sammy

Grew up with real trees but switched to fake many moons ago because of the safety factor. A dry tree is a fire hazard almost unequaled. Ran many a tree fire while with the FD over 21 years that resulted in a lot of property damage, but, thank goodness, only one fatality. If you go with a real tree, keep it watered and use small, low power lights. Needless to say, NO candles or other ignition sources. Tradition just isn't worth what it could cost. -- Al

Real is REAL and artificial ISN"T. Really that says it all. With respect Al, my father was a volunteer fireman all the way through chief and the precautions you note are indeed appropriate. That sad, I firmly believe there is no reason to have a tree fire if you are reasonably careful.

We went to artificial, fake or whatever you want to call it two years ago. Less of a hassle ano cleaning up of needles. With this year, the tree will have paid for itself.

Can't remember why we went "fake" years ago. It might have been that one of the kids was allergic. My mother and father used to have the annual Christmas tree fight getting the REAL tree up the narrow stairs to their apartment. It always ended with "Best Tree EVER!" My sister called the uneven side of the real trees the "Tannen-Bum" and put that to the wall. She and her husband had a tiny apartment when they got married and actually cut all the branches off one side of a tree to fit against the wall. Ahhhh memories.

It's our tradition now for my daughter and I to assemble the tree.

We have an artificial tree.. When the kids where young, we had two trees.. one real, one artificial... then we switched to just the artificial tree, mainly because we can leave it up much longer than a real tree.

We usually put it up around Thanksgiving (it's up now) and don't take it down until the weekend before Super Bowl.. The last time the Bears where in the Super Bowl, we took all the ornaments off and we made Bears' ornaments and kept it up for Super Bowl..

My girlfriend and I have a 10 foot tall artificial tree, it is a show stopper, has the lights built in, we decorate it to the hilt, went this way for the same reason Jim did, the tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving and comes down the day after New Years, no way a real tree would be able to hang in there that long.

Well it might but it would look like the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree by January 2nd...................

As in years past, my wife and I trudge out to the old tree farm and cut one down - nothing like the fragrance of a freshly cut tree inside the home. We always either get a Balsam or a Fraiser fir - both have a great fragrance and long needle retention. We have done this every year since we married (41 years) - all of our kids do the same thing with their families too - a tradition that the wife and I are happy we passed along. Next Saturday, 12/4, we will be joining our youngest daughter, our son-in-law, and grandson for our annual foray into the woods. Real all the way - wouldn't go artificial

Sold trees for the Lions Club 30 plus Christmas seasons. Wrestling multiple heavy cold wet trees tends to destroy the romance of the fresh tree. went artificial for a while and now don't even decorate since we usually are somewhere else at Christmas.

We always had a real tree growing up, I think we switched because Mum got fed up of hoovering up the needles.

I have a fake pre-lit one now, much easier and we even have these pine scented ornaments (and they really do capture the smell of a pine quite well).

I'll use a live tree at home, if I can find one of the right size--3' to 4', since I put it on a table--for the right price--I don't like paying the same price for a small tree, that people pay for a full-size tree--and that I can have ready to go on the eve of the 6th--St Nicholas' Day. The past few years, I've used an artificial tree, because I couldn't get a live one. I have an artificial tree that I put up at work.

Decorations go up the night of the 5th, and stay up till Three Kings.

...which is why we Christians adopted the symbol, and put the celebration of Christ's birth at this time. It's a symbol of life dfeating death.

Have a seven foot artificial tree, could not have all the pine needles covering the front room. Looks excellent and just as good as a real one if not better

Had the real tree before but artificial tree for us.I`m not a big Xmas person but I do it for the kids.(I should say I do as my wife says).

Seen my share of tree fires in my 22 years as a firefighter. You wouldn't believe how fast and how hot a tree can get going. Imitration tree my household.
