Hi Guys,

Thought you might like to see a little preview of our upcoming “ROMAN FORT” that will be released over the next few months alongwith some of our new Roman soldiers.
As some collectors will recall King & Country produced an earlier Fort back in 2001.
Back then that particular version was a collaboration between K & C and our friend, John Jenkins who was working with us on a ‘Freelance’ basis.
This new version is bigger (about 10% larger) but still comprises 10 x separate pieces that can be purchased individually or together as the collector requires.
In the ten years since John set up his own company we have continued to meet up and talk here in Hong Kong about the hobby and our own particular interests.
Ancient Rome” has always been one of our favorite topics of discussion but for both of us we could never find the space in our production schedules to fit it in. Finally, we have .
Even years back we shared the fact that each company wanted to concentrate on certain specific aspects of the subject... For John it was “Armies & Enemies of Ancient Rome” ... For myself it was The Romans themselves, military as well as civilian.
Well, here is the first little taste of what’s in store in a few months time.

Best wishes and happy collecting!
Andy

This should be a winner!
Romans are hot! Hopefully some adversaries will be forthcoming.

Can one of our Ancient Roman experts tell which legion and time period these figures represent?

The shield appears to be that of 20th. Valeria Victrix.
Cannot see what is at the bottom of shield very well but if it is a wild boar then 20th. Valeria Victrix.
Google it to get some history for the legion.

I have both of the original Roman Forts (1996 and 2001) and the original 1996 Wood and Papier Mache version remains my favorite:

Wow......Looks very similar to the old Airfix grey plastic 1/72 fort from the 70's I used to own as a wee chap. Have fond memories of using it with Romans and Ancient Britains along with a heap of other Airfix figures over the ages.

It looks amazing and could be used in all sorts of different scenarios.^&grin

Thanks.....looks like a boar and if not a wolf or fox?
It makes sense that it would be the 20th Valeria Victrix Legion as they were part of the Claudian invasion of Britain and saw extensive
action in Britain including the Queen Bodicia Revolt. The fort would also fit in nicely for the British theatre under Roman rule.
I wonder if Andy will try his hand on a Celtic chariot? That would be something to contract out to John (JJD).

The Crusader figures should work with this fort.

I like this earlier version. The merlons are the correct height for the figures; they should be the same height as the figure or higher. A soldier would shield himself behind the merlons and fire through the crenels. The correct size is important for realism

The new Mile Castle Roman fort is very well done except for the height of the merlons in relation to the figures. The Roman Fort by Peter Connolly has an excellent drawing of a Mile Castle on page 9. the drawing shows the correct size relationship between a merlon and a Roman Legionary.

The Walls Of Rome Osprey Fortress Series #71 is an excellent reference on Roman Fortifications, with many excellent drawings showing the size relationship of the crenelations to the Legionary.

Andy mate,
Outstanding release. Will be a great winner. I have already had five pre-orders of the full Milecastle from my Roman collectors. Am I reading into your post that you will be doing the Romans, both military and civilian and young John Jenkins with be releasing the "Armies & Enemies of Ancient Rome" in a two Company joint release???{sm4}
Cheers Howard

Thanks for the photo Louis. Your excellent close up shows the mismatch in heights clearly.I was refering to your excellent Grey Fortress as having the right relationship of soldier height to Merlon height. What a massive Fortress that is. How high are the walls?

From an exchange this morning with John Jenkins I know he was planning to release some news last night but due to a China visit this will be delayed until Friday evening.
