Rugby World Cup (1 Viewer)

Wayne and Jack,
You do know that pesky Kiwi, Toddy, actually reads this thread. Don't encourage him before the game as it will be bad enough after the game if his dream does come true.{sm2}

The Wallabies need to seek inspiration from the legendary motivational film Galaxy Quest. In particular the Captain's (Tim Allen) line ; "never give up, never surrender". Others may watch it for the tight fitting uniform of Sigourney Weaver but I think they miss the deeper meaning of the film as it relates to real life challenges {sm4}

Of course, the timing of the game is lousy for us down under.

If we do lose we will just have to grin and bear it and say something like at least half the ANZACs won !

I could say sooooo much right now^&grin .........but for the sake of world peace I think we can comfortably say the best teams come from the southern hemisphere:salute::

For the record, I think it's still going to be tight either way........:wink2:

Congratulations to New Zealand on their win in the championship Rugby match today. It was a hard-fought match, especially in the 2nd half and was a close score until the last few minutes. Congrats to Australia, as well, for a gallant effort. -- Al

Outstanding RWC final, some magic moments!! The Aussie boys gave it their all and came within 4 points, which was amazing, but in the end it was all the AB's.

I think the hand shakes by both teams at the end of the match said it all too. :salute::

There is certainly some partying going on down here this morning!!

Great game indeed! Congratulations to NZ for the win and to AU for playing so well too!

I should be in bed but my dearly beloved decided a trip to the market was needed. Who are all these people who eat fruit and veg anyway ? Eating some sort of Transylvanian pancake with bacon, feta and shallots which makes the trip worthwhile. Playing for time before actually have to congratulate the you know who team.

So as the first Aussie in this thread after the game it falls to me to congratulate NZ on their win. Toddy was very kind and restrained in his comments so I am sure Tom and the two Wayne's will give him at least a 24 hours break without mentioning sheep{sm4}. Or will they ?

Great game despite the result. Next World Cup will be in Japan. Maybe Europe can get in some practice before then and actually make the semi finals.

Now on to more important sporting matters. When is the next Oz V NZ women's netball game ?{sm3}

As a "European" ( by law - although Welsh, by the grace of God!:D) - albeit in temporary residence here in NZ^&grin - I also add my congrats to the best team in the tournament too. (ALL Blacks or NZ - whichever you prefer). Sure - as expected it came down to less than a handful of points - so my congrats also go to the team who got so close - after battling some of the tougher oppositions to get there too. The "Injuries" list will tell you where they played!{eek3}

I'm not overly dismayed by SOME of the "Europeans" performances however, as but for a few lapses at the end of some key matches - or the odd occasional howler by a referee - there COULD possibly have been two in the end mix. However, there weren't - and in our game - the refs decision is final - and that's that!

I've said my piece earlier, about how I think that Pool arrangement need to be looked at again - so won't repeat that again.

I might also add, that I hope that some Northern hemisphere Unions, National Managers and Coaches - and indeed Club sides take a far closer look at themselves - and the way the game is played up there. Okay, the weather up North can be dire - and pitches often a sea of mud - BUT there are ways around this with all-weather stadiums and the like - and money is not a serious problem for many sides and Unions in some European countries. In short - the Northern Game MUST change, if they are to remain competitive with the best.

I have been taking my grandson to Rugby (Games and practice) quite a few times whilst I've been "down under" - and the sheer number of kids (both boys and girls) playing the game here, has to be seen to be believed! The levels of performance are also impressive - at all ages! No wonder NZ are so good - I think around 90% of kids MUST be involved in this wonderful game, at very early ages. I've also taken in a few of the professional games whilst I've been here - and have to say - the games here are quicker, more dynamic, often more skillful, and ( for me), just simply far enjoyable to watch as a result.

So.......my congrats again go to BOTH sides for a thrilling final. Well done lads!!! :salute::- and, whilst looking forward to a few changes for the future - I'll hopefully, be still be around for the next one!!:D Cymru am byth - johnnybach

As sure as chooks lay eggs and sheep live in terror in 'The Land of the Long Hairy Foot' the AB's are Kings of Rugby once again...well done. :salute:: The Wallabies did OZ proud :salute::

Nah, I'll spare Toddy and give the "one liners" on sheep a miss. I'm not into the "grunt and shove" game and didn't watch the match but congrat's to the Kiwi lads, it sounds like they did there country proud. Good on the Oz boys for trying there best.

Tom

I was happy when we knocked the poms out of the comp,but beating England,Wales and Scotland (What a trifecta) very proud of the Wallabies and a huge well done to the people on that wee island a great win by a mighty team.

With the coming retirements i predict the AB,s won't get any weaker as Union is really the only sport they play and are good at :wink2:,bring on the cricket ^&grin

Special mention should go to Sonny Bill Williams of the NZ side.

Several years ago he was one of the most disliked people in Australian sport for walking out on his contract with his Rugby League team the Bulldogs. Early one morning he got onto a plane and flew to France for a lucrative French Rugby deal. Just forgot to mention it to his team or team mates. Also known for his encounter with a female triathlete in a club toilet.

He came back to Oz a couple of years ago to play one season with League team the Roosters which won the Premiership that year. Was a good role model in games and off the field. Then back to Rugby for this World Cuo build up.

Made it into the NZ Rugby team and this was his second World Cup. After NZ beat South Africa in the semi final it was him shown bending down to console an upset SA player. After last nights game he was walking around the field with his team mates when he saw a security guard tackle and bring down an 8 year old boy. SBY saw the kid was shook up and went over and gave him his game medal. Said it might mean more to the boy than him.

Not likely to read this but well done to SBY for his sportsmanship on and off the field.

Some people have a way with words but you do it with great images :salute::

Some great posts here lads!

As you can imagine there's a ton of very happy Kiwi's celebrating right now and I hope quite a few Aussie's as well. It's a massive thing to get to the final, regardless of whether or not you win it, so I hope the OZ fans are also out enjoying themselves.

This All Blacks side is special and have proven it time and time again both on and off the field and have done NZ proud. :salute::

It's been a fanatstic tournment and the Brits should be proud of putting on such a wonderful event.^&grin

Looking forward to the next RWC.

I'm sure there's been a ton of soul searching going on in that camp! For me the Puma's were the most improved team in the tournment and it was great to watch them improve with every game.

I don't think any one can dispute the best team won that tournament.
This All Black team is the stuff of legends
Dan and Richie deserve it
Also seems that Sonny Bill Williamson is great sportsman and will be equally as legendary as Dan and Richie in years to come
Well done New Zealand.

While the Hobbits are deservedly happy

in the land of the 'Long Hairy Foot'.

Michael Cheika has been named Rugby Coach of the Year, onya mate.....:salute::
