SPQR: Britannia (1 Viewer)

Eventually his love for his family and his tribe convinces the Chief of the Ordovices that he must make peace with the Romans remembering what had happened to the Iceni and it's allies years before, The Silures though will have none of it and as they make their way back to their own lands the Romans have come out in pursuit.
As they come up with the Silures and with the Roman Auxiliaries deployed covering the flanks and pushing them to the Agricola's Legions the Roman close with the Silures in their hollow square formation since they cannot be certain of which direction they will be assaulted on.

Soon the Romans hear the shouts and clash of arms approaching them, but from all sides and then with a sudden rush they are upon them.

With the troublesome Druids coming separated from the main body of the Host of the Silures they are quickly slain.
The Silures quickly find that they cannot penetrate the Roman shield wall however fierce their attack and hearing the horn blasts recalling them they slip away as the Romans take a toll on the attack.

Some great scenes in your diorama !

A lot of action going on.

Thank you.

Great continuance of your story with the closeup photos really capturing the intensity of the battle. Excellent placement of the figures also adds to the realism of the scene. Well done. Regards Greg.

Thanks Greg and look forward to seeing your next diorama.

My next diorama will be a jungle battle followed by another Roman scene. Done a couple more dioramas but these are for a competition and won't be shown till mid year. I'm also going to start some Napoleon scenes that will fit in my cabinets. Looks like we have alot in common with our tastes in collecting. Great minds think alike. Regards Greg.

We certainly do Greg !
I've got a couple more ideas for Roman scenes, A German / Danube frontier one and one which will have to a tight little scene of the Siege of Jerusalem, which will see my Arabs having to stand in again for Jewish rebels as no one does Israelites !
Both involve a bit of construction, of which I need to do some trials on various materials and I've also got a Burma / Jungle diorama planned of which I'm creating some more Jungle terrain pieces and which will be scene sooner than the others.

Very nice Steve ,you just need smoke drifting across the battle and you have gone back in time , besides the germans, the romans are my favourite. cheers Graham

A few years previous and on the other side of the Roman Empire lays Judea.
Also a troublesome province for the Romans with insurrection always just a step away and sporadic rebellious attacks on the occupying Romans a constant and now Summer has arrived in the twelfth year of Nero's reign with more and more of these attacks happening.
The Romans try to keep the lid on with snatches off the streets from information gained from informers or from torture of Jewish rebel leaders, but all they catch are small fry.

Meanwhile in Syria, it is common gossip in the markets where spies listen in, that should Judea explode in revolt, then the Legions there will launch a punitive campaign. Which with the Romans is always harsh.
Figures Del Prado all with conversions to some degree.

Thanks Steve, I'm enjoying this thread. But I have to admit that when I see Romans on the march it always reminds me of the movies Life of Brian, and History of the World Part I with Mel Brooks in some very funny roles.

Your commentary sets the different scenes nicely. I bet you would like the makers to bring out a range of village people to compliment your diverse scenes while I concentrate mainly on action dioramas. Regards Greg.

D*** you've guessed a small detail I intended adding graffiti to a future scene, for which I'd already used the Google translator for, Romani Ite Domum, Mors canes Romanus est, Hic erat Biggus !

Sure would. People doing everyday tasks. Legionaries making roads, walls etc etc. Would add much more depth I think.

Calculated as a show of the might of the Legions, a display is put on for the locals their next market day. Unfortunately a pair of Auxiliaries get drunk at a wine stall, refuse to pay and a riot ensues.

Thanks Robin, they do add a bit of flavour to the scene. Made them for pennies !

They're made from Bamboo BBQ skewers, Ice lolly sticks, Superglue, bit of brown paint to stain the wood and what was my shoe cleaning / polishing thing, a hotel give away, (Gives that aged appearance !^&grin) cut up and dyed various colours with paint and a bit of pva glue to stiffen them up. Striped ones done by using a bit of masking tape and painting the gaps !

I LOVE these Judean scenes, especially the graffiti with its Monty Python reference. I don't know why no manufacturers make ancient Jews. I think a small line Bar Kochba and his followers or Zealots would be very welcome.

Looking for biggus dickus reference, surely must be there on the wall somewhere to slander the Romans. Robin.

Yep, I'm totally with you, Monty Python or not, I've always found this subject interesting and exciting, even before the mini series Masada or other interests !
TG or K&C being the best bets to lobby I guess !
