SPQR: Britannia (1 Viewer)

This is a very entertaining series.Your buildings and background work are exceptional/

The Roman strengths in the battlefield like their shields and armour, their tactical plans and formations, their short stabbing swords and spears are nullified in the narrow streets.A slingers rock fired from a rooftop and being able to retreat quickly and a knowledge of the streets is an advantage. The Romans need to regroup in the market place where they can employ their defensive formations.
Great series of scenes and story. Regards Greg.

A break from Judea whilst the Governor awaits reinforcements !

First of my three part version of the first chapters of the "Eagle of the Ninth"

Spring.
A replacement garrison under it's commander Marcus Flavius Aquila, settles into it's new quarters at Isca Dumnoniorum in the West of Britain, carrying out the upkeep after the Winter of clearing out the ditch that surrounds the Fort. As patrols both foot and mounted pass in and out.

Part 2 of 3.

Summer.

Marcus often visits the Chief of the Village next to the Fort. Cradoc by name, to liaise with him for the Forts dealing with the Villagers.
As the Summer progresses he comes to admire the man with his skill with horses and as a Charioteer.
But disturbing news reaches Marcus's ears that a wandering Druid has been spotted in the area which he knows always means trouble. Unable to get any information from Cradoc he lets the matter drop, but keeps his ears open.

Autumn.

As Summer turns to Autumn, the harvest what it is, is brought in. crops have mostly failed for the third year in a row and famine will strike the village this Winter.
One blustery night a Sentry reports hearing noises outside the Fort. The watch commander also hearing it reports to Marcus, who mounting the ramparts orders the Cohort turned out as quietly as possible.
As the last of the cohort takes their positions on the wall the Fort is rushed in silence by what seems a human wave. Giving the order to the archers to loose their arrows the silence is broken first by cries of pain and then the whole scene erupts in shouts and screams of anger on both sides.
The Britons make repeated assaults with ladders and fire, but they are beaten back each time, just before dawn the attacks stop and a report reaches Marcus that their signal beacon has been answered and so with a little relief the garrison knows that help is on it's way.
At noon a returning patrol comes into sight. They must be aware that all is not well at the fort by the smoke still rising from the signal beacon. At this moment the Britons start to emerge from the nearby woods.
Calling for a half century Marcus forms his men into a Testudo and leads them out of the main gate and reaches the returning patrol and begins to bring them safely back into the fort. When almost safe a Chariot comes charging towards them. Marcus recognises the spearman as Cradoc as it bears down rapidly. Knowing it is almost certain death Marcus breaks from his men and runs towards the chariot leaping at the last moment and grabbing the horses yoke.
This frightening the horses makes the chariot crash and as it turns somersault he loses consciousness.

Wow it's anyone's guess here who is going to be the victor. So much action in this vast array of figures. The whole layout is terrific Steve. The fort may fall yet. Robin.

Cheers Robin. Though this was the last part I could portray, if you've not read the book then the six part BBC series from 1977 will be a treat for you. Low on budget, full on story !
Here's link to first episode to get you started !

I really liked your Roman fort diorama Steve. A lot of things to take in there with the seige scene. Looks like Roman themes are the flavour on the forum at the moment, especially with Andy and those not yet released great figures. All goes well for us. Regards Greg.

Thanks Greg as I like your wooden Fort, I may have a go at making a smallish one at some stage, but when the JJD one comes out depending on price I may go for that or do as I have with the K&C bits I have just get a couple of parts.
I'll need to clear another shelf. I think I may have to let some of my collection go as I really don't have room for what I have now let alone increasing. But hard to part with !

Great action, really like the action and keep the story going.

Thanks Steve but just leaving the Fictional "eagle of the Ninth" as with what figures are produced I think I have covered the action scenes I can unless at a later date I do the Legions last stand ! Though the archaeologists and historians say that assuming it wasn't broken for something like mutiny, it could of gone done in Dacia or Judea, or Parthia even !

Next though it's back to Judea and the revolt of 66 A.D. where another Legion loses it's Eagle !

A messenger pauses on his way to Antioch to warn a working party of Legionaries under a Surveyor of the open revolt in Jerusalem. The Surveyor realising the seriousness, has his men break camp and form up to return to their base.

Superb scene there Steve. I liked the shields and spears lined up down the road. The figures look great. Regards Greg.

With the rebellion in Judea spreading a Legion leaves it's base in Syria, leaving behind just a small garrison to hold and police the city.
A beggar spits and curses the last century as it leaves for not dropping a coin into his bowl. As they march along the road a woman holds up her baby son to his father as he passes on his way south.
