Sudan Campaigns 1880 - 1898 (2 Viewers)

Martyn,

Thank you posting pictures of Post Office Riffles sets, it is one of my favorite regiments but I just could not find enough of them in the US :(

Trophy also made Artists Riffles set with early oval bases, I have its picture somewhere...

Well, Martyn,
I guess I was wrong on those: my research showed that they were made by Ed Carrigg's "The Soldier's Centre"...:(

The picture of Trophy Artist Riffles is enclosed.

The Royal Sussex in the Sudan (includes a couple of Britains castings to help fill out the scene ). Hope the picture is clear as I am fairly new to the forum and to photography. I will also post a close up of a couple of the figures .

Thanks Tommy & Martyn. Unfortunately, I do not have other figures from that regiment.

Welcome Partner and thanks for sharing photos of your collection. My knowledge of the various British regiments is weak at best. I have similar looking figures as Partner posted. They look like what I thought were Lincolnshire - so, would anyone be able to clarify whether Trophy made both - Lincolnshire & Royal Sussex Regiments? If so, what uniforms and the difference between the two as made by Trophy. I believe the Lincolnshire were at Omdurman and the Royal Sussex were in the Relief Column for Gordon. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Lawrence , I checked a couple of my boxes , the ones for the Hand to Hand sets have a small sticker with hand printed "HS 3 Sussex" and "HS 4 Sussex" Clarification on the Regiment would be great !

Lawrence & Partner,

These regiments uniforms always give me hard time as well :D

The difference usually was in facing color as far as I know:

1st Lincolnshire RVC Scarlet Yellow
2nd Lincolnshire RVC Scarlet Blue

1st Sussex RVC Scarlet Blue
2nd Sussex RVC Scarlet Blue

plus different insignia on the helmet and a sleeve.

My Trophy catalogues have the following Regiments available to be painted in khaki uniforms for the EGYPT and THE SUDAN campaigns:

NORTH STAFFS
CONNAUGHT RANGERS
ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENT
ROYAL WEST KENT REGIMENT
GRENADIER GUARDS

But Len would also “paint to order” which is where the LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT could have come from

I think you will find that facing colours were redundant on khaki, the Regiment flashes were starting to appear on helmets

Cheers

Martyn

I found an ad in the Autumn 1990 issue of Toy Soldier Review . It shows the Hand to Hand sets with the same flash on the helmet and are identified as Royal Sussex in Khaki uniforms .
The sets were also available as Royal Marines in Blue uniforms and Scots Guards in Scarlet uniforms

I will get the ad scanned and will post .

Kirk,
All of my figures have this on their helmet. Do yours?

Would that not be the Northumberland Fusiliers. "V" being the roman "5" Northumberland Fusiliers = 5th regiment of Foot.

Martin

yes Lawrence , they all have the same flash on their helmets . It is same as displayed in the ad I mentioned

Kirk,
I purchased mine without boxes, and was told by the seller they were Lincolnshire. Looks like I was misinformed, but still having fun playing with them. Thanks for the info - learn something new everyday!! As for posting pictures, I have an old camera, so my pictures are only 5 megapixel. I first go to my album and upload them there. Once uploaded, you click on the photo you want to paste and underneath the photo you will see two boxes. The bottom one says BB Code. Copy that and paste to your post. I know there are other ways to post, but I am not a tech person, so this works for me. There is a section in the forum that provides better instructions - I believe in the How To section. Good luck and welcome to the Trophy funhouse :) All the best, Lawrence
