How long do you think K&C will wait till they also use metal tracks on there tanks. They must be aware of the other company's that do. Do you think it would bring something more to K&C tanks or does that not matter to you guy's. Have a say. Simmo.

Chris mate,
I would love to see anything that improves the quality of the finished product, BUT at what cost.:(:( Only Andy could tell you the whys and wherefores as to this delicate matter of dollar costing.
Rotating metal tracks, opening and closing hatches and internal detailing would all be nice to have, BUT at what cost.:confused:
If the cost of the finished product remains the same then I in.:):)
Also mate, there is an interesting thread going at the moment on the rising cost of collecting. An old subject but being re-hashed intelligently.
Cheers Howard

Hi Simmo,

Re your query about metal tracks on our tanks… I would love to have metal tracks on tanks… it would be great if they could move too… and roll just like the real thing.

However it would also cost a helluva lot more! As all of us manufacturers (K&C included) are trying to keep costs down or at least within affordable limits for most collectors then the metal track issue for me is, at this time, a non-starter. And that’s my say.

Best wishes and happy collecting!

Andy C.

Thank god for that. I am all for detail but, the importation of the model world which, is seen as necessary by some manufacturers IMO is getting out of control.

As one who is currently on the borderline of being driven out of this hobby by the current costs, I say keep the price down, whatever it takes. The current level of detail is just fine with me. Couldn't care less if the tracks are all individual metal links and actually roll. I don't intend to put them on the floor and push them around, crushing the unfortunate infantryman who gets in the way. I like detail as well as the next guy, but at this point, cost is the main concern. -- Al

Detail does matter to me but I think we should be getting more for
what were paying now when your talking £200.00 for a tank

I understand. I would love more detail as long as the price doesn't rise. I just am no longer willing to pay beyond a certain price point, regardless of how much detail a vehicle has. I would love more bang for the buck, just as everyone else would. -- Al

The question is a good one. I personally think market forces, by us the consumer, will force the manufacturers to provide more better detail in this area. I do speak from experience in this area as i own an engineering company and we specialise in making high precision components. In my industry there is always a drive to push the boundaries of what is possible to make while also keeping a lid on the price. Back to the toy world i note we have examples such as Minichamps who make very nice diecast tank models in the 1/35 scale with component assembled tracks and wheels at a reasonable price. Saying that i should also add that Minichamps do not seem to have had much success with this range as new models in the series have slowed to an absolute trickle. Another example closer to the toy soldier market showing just what is possible is the new panzer being put out by JJ Design for the Condor range. The photos i have seen show very well detailed track and wheels on what looks like a one piece track assembly. I feel JJ is showing us just what is now possible with the technology they use.

Stephen do you have a link to JJ Design ?
I think the problem with Minichamps is all there tanks look like they came straight out of the factory

When AFVs top $200, I'm out. The current versions are detailed enough for my needs, static displays. The models from KC, Brits, CS, etc are improving each yr with better detail and realism without going thru the roof with added cost. I would avoid metal tracks based on what Andy said.

Andy, I love to spend money even if it's more...am I all alone?

From a personal perspective $200 plus a tank, is getting right up there for me.:(

As much as I'd like to see moveable tracks and wheels, I wouldn't like to see prices climb any further thanks very much!!

In saying that, the way manufactures/designers continually push technology for new innovative ideas and methods I'm sure we'll see more great things happen to the hobbie yet.....:D;)

Cheers.

Well said im with you i dont see the point of moving tracks i wouldn't let anyone push it around if they did to expensive,so no point in moving plus just something else to break in shipping.

Hi Uksubs

Here is a link to a dealer of JJ with pics of the upcoming panzer tank http://www.sierratoysoldier.com/our...Kpfw-1A-Condor-Legion-Number-424-891p8696.htm namely Sierrra Toy Soldiers. From the pics the track detailing looks superb. Yes Minichamps have no weathering on them but i only gave them as an example of what is possible. I don't consider Minichamps as being a player in the toy soldier market but as a diecast manufacturer i think they make a very nice product.

cheers

stephen

That tank looks great. Thanks for showing us the link. Polystone with resin and metal parts could be a good thing if as Andy says we can keep the price down. I am over my limit with price now but still would like more detail. Just thinking out loud guy's throwing some ideas around. Simmo.

We need to remember that CS did their desert panzer I a good while back with very very good detail and metal tracks (no movable wheels thank god) so, it can be done and done cheaply if manufacturers want to but, its not something I am all that interested in as it will in the current market only raise costs and they are high enough now.

Hi Simmo

No problem about showing the link. I should of probably posted a link to Treefrog's shop as i forgot all about them stocking JJ as well. Treefrog by the way are the nicest people to deal with when it comes to actually buying toy soldiers, them and George that is (aka Warrior).

Hi Mitch

Yes i would agree about prices getting up there and you do have to draw the line somewhere. I would say wait till you see what Tom at TG Miniatures can come up with for AFV's. I expect we will be impressed very soon.
