I now see that Sierra Toy Soldier has now implemented Tariff pricing (Tariff Surcharge) on at least the JJD April release sets that I looked at on their web site. Mounted figures with an original MSRP of $108 are now $137. Artillery extension sets with an original MSRP of $166 are now $200. Not good news. This will be a deal breaker for many collectors. My heart goes out to the dealers that are being impacted.

The pricing may make collectors flock to releases released before the tariffs went into effect that are still in dealers inventory.

I forgot to mention that Sierra's Tariff Surcharge is based on a 54% Tariff rate, not a 104% Tariff rate that starts tomorrow. So there's potential that these Tariff Surcharges will be increased.

3 1/2 years to the next election isn't it ????

John
Presidential election, yes, but there are gubernatorial elections in NJ and Virginia this year where voters will demonstrate how they feel about the state of the country and in 2026 there are Congressional elections.

1.5 years until the mid terms, when he'll lose control of the house and the senate and be a lame duck president like he was the first go round.

So 1.5 more years of pain.

Couple of interesting developments. The Senate is getting ready to vote on a bi-partisan bill to repeal the emergency tariffs. Probably not much effect. I also just read where the toy train hobby (I am assuming through Lionel as it is the USA company) is asking for an exemption from the tariffs that would apply to all toys and hobby goods. Doubt it will get much attention, but who knows.

I think all of the tariffs will be resolved in the near term except China which of course is the one at hand here. Something will give, just not sure how soon that happens. I believe the issues are pretty deep and most certainly include the Taiwan dispute, etc. Always have felt like this is a collision course waiting to happen and it now has.

Regarding the comment on CNN, that is crap. None of the cable news channels stick to the facts, they stick to ratings and they know their biased audience. CNN makes a living off of being Anti Trump. Just like they were Pro Biden when it was obvious he was failing. If you are relying for news from any of these outlets, I feel sorry for you.

Only 18 months til the midterm elections. If the Democrats take control of the House and Senate they will more than likely impeach the president

Mike
That solves a lot too. All it does is provide a fundraising opp for re-election campaigns on all sides, so once again, the ultra right and ultra left will elect candidates and put us right back in the middle of the pot. If our moderates in the entirety of Congress had any sense, they would band together, but they can't due to the ultra power provided by both side's extreme wealthy groups. You cannot in good faith claim George Soros or the Koch Brothers are moderates and there is the 2 power brokers behind each party. If we want to place blame for the positions that we are in, there are the targets. Trump IMO is nothing more than a pawn, just like Biden, Obama and for the most part George W. Clinton caused a lot of his own problems leading to ineffectiveness and George HW Bush couldn't fully control his own party. So, there you have it, Reagan was probably the last effective President who worked with O'Neil (Powerful Democrat in Congress) and thus things seemingly worked for the most part. Even Reagan at the end due to his own deteriorating health lost control to the party powers and thus was born an era of "follow the money" politics.

I know the above is a very cynical and simplistic view, but IMO, just add details and that is about the gist or root of our modern issues.

I’m sharing this article from the NYT (unlocked as I think it’s worth a read).

Pretty good article. It is opinion in a lot by drawing conclusions, but some of them are probably true. The one thing I wonder is who will be the White Knight country that brokers a deal between the US and China. Someone (one of our allies) will feel enough pain, maybe all of them and step in. I don't know when, but I do think it is a probability.

For me, going after China is the right thing to do, but I disagree vehemently with the seemingly shotgun approach and including all Countries that he could think of. We would have been better served by a coalition against China and maybe we will get there. Painful wait.

That would be a waste of time. They need 67 votes to convict and that ain’t gonna happen.

Trump thinks a powerhouse like China will blink? He's delusional to say the least. But hey, Trump just gave Democrats the ammunition they have been looking for on a silver platter. Talk about stupid, but what does he care, he's out after this term, so he's going to burn the whole thing to the ground in the process.
