Have watched the first 2 episodes and find it to be fairly entertaining even if they have borrowed from about a dozen different sci-fi films, so far. Heck, even Alfred Hitchcock got a nod in tonight's show. Best thing about the show is Stephen Lang as the leader of the colony. Good special effects but they do spend a lot of time driving around in their Road Warriormobiles. Some good rivals in the mysterious "sixers" and especially all the indeginous wild life. I will keep watching to see where it goes. Anyone else watching? -- Al

Al,
First two episodes aired here on Sunday night.

Not normally a sci fi/dinosaur fan but will probably follow the series. Filmed in Queensland but I hasten to add no dinosaurs here ^&grin

Brett

I saw commercials for it over the weekend. My first thought was, "It's a rip-off of Burroughs' 'Land that Time Forgot', with some heavy influence from 'Primeval' ". Anything with dinosaurs is cool, though, regardless of how the scripts and acting may turn out.

Prost!

So far I am hooked after watching the first two episodes. I find it to be very entertaining and is much, much better than watching another odd "reality" show. I did notice something in last night's episode that amused me . . . the "colony" teems with high tech machinery, equipment, research labs, & fashion designed clothing, yet the railings around the porches and upper decks are made of bamboo poles fastened together with rope . . . I found this to be humorously out-of-place with the rest of the set's futuristic background. I still plan to stay tuned to see the next episodes . . .
:) Mike

Didn't notice the tied bamboo. I guess I was too busy watching for Hitchcock to walk by with his dogs.:D I have enjoyed the series and it certainly is better than those reality shows. -- Al

Brad, the producers seemed to have borrowed, liberally, from a lot of sci-fi stories. Have spotted brief elements of Blade Runner,
Stargate, Pitch Black, Jurrasic Park, Time Machine, etc. It has been amusing. -- Al

I like the show and actors but ratings have not been the best and the budget is high. The three other shows I would check out are "A Gifted Man" Medical Drama, Prime Suspect (because Mario Bello rocks), and "Person of Interest".

Still holding out for "American Horror Story" and "Grimm"

Not to mention Conan Doyle's "Lost World". I had forgotten about this incarnation of Sir Arthur's story, too, but this reminds me of it:

Of course, the best thing about that series was Jennifer O'Dell running around in her athletic Jungle Queen outfit. Rowr!

Al,
Regarding your
"Aha! This explains the right-hand drive Road Warriormobiles"
I guess this means you guys in the USA better start making your vehicles the correct way.
Regards
Brett
PS Agree with Chris about reason for watching Prime Suspect !

I was trying to figure out the right-hand drive while watching the show. I had no idea it was filmed in Queensland. Appreciated the info.:wink2: -- Al

I saw the trailer for this and the dinosaurs looked quite poor CGI and trailers usually show the best bits, so gave it a miss.

Maybe will rent the boxset if the series gets a good review once finished.

I don't know, M'Lud, in the trailer I saw, what looked like a Ceratosaurus ate one of the expendables, and the animation looked about on par with the LW series I mentioned previously, so, better than "Raptor Island" or "Pterosaur!", which had quite bad CGI indeed, but not as good as on "Primeval". Certainly not even close to the JP series.

Remember, though, too, it's still tougher to produce as convincing an animation for the small screen as it is for the movies. Still, it can be entertaining, like watching the old Toho color movies from the 60's.

Prost!

Anyone keeping up on this? I have missed the last two episodes. Are they worth going back to watch? My interest is slipping. Need to know if it is worth catching up. -- Al

My interest has slipped also.Watched the first 2 got 4 to catch up on.It's on the bubble as they say as far as being renewed or not.I don't want to watch it then it's canceled as was "The Event" last year.

I have lost interest in Terra Nova . . . its a big disappointment to me . . . . too much high tech in the land of the giant lizards for me. I have replaced it with "The Walking Dead" and the very new "Hell On Wheels" both of which are very well done . . . .

Agree with this. Too much same old, same old. Got some hope for "Hell on Wheels" as well. -- Al

Have only seen previews/promos when at other people's houses, since I don't have cable. It looks interesting, from a special effects perspective, but as Al and others have pointed out, it looks like a re-hashing or distillation of elements of a bunch of other sci-fi stores. I think I even mentioned in this thread or another one, it reminded me very much of the BBC's excellent series, "Primeval". As a matter of fact, that reminds me, I want to bookmark "Primeval" at Amazon.com.....

I did get to see a preview on Sunday, that featured a large dinosaur with a neck frill, and it made me think that they appear to be propagating the "writer's embellishment" that Spielberg used in "Jurassic Park", if that beast was supposed to be a Dilophosaurus.

Prost!
