Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

Excellent displays! You have captured the painting expertly. Like the Irish too. Top notch all the way!
Maybe we can do counter battery image sharing if I got off my tail and set up some troops. Between you and I we could image the whole battle! Iron Brigade meets Texans in the cornfield.HMMMMM?

Fub

Excellent idea-your shout!

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

Vamp. Now that's what I call a good set, but I do have a couple of Gray Comanches that just might have given them a run for their dollar shot for shot.

That is also a great little mini dio, excellent vegetation and set-up, left flank trooper appears to be pointing at the viewer so that the sharpshooter can get a bead on ya!
Well worth wasting a few shots to get the prime finish.

Bob

Thanks.Yeah it did come out well. I knew that was the one right after I took. Had to play with the light a lot. It was night time when I took itNow I need a back drop.

Bob I have some of those Cherokee rebs.

Lt, I wanna see the battle begin.

Louis is right your "location" shots really are exceptional. Absolutely outstanding.

I have two questions
Is that shot a depiction of Burnside's bridge at Antietam?
and if that was shot this side of the pond where on earth did the sunshine and blue sky come from?

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

It was done in my backyard (in Roslyn Harbor, NY) in late July. Wait until you see some shots of the K&C Civil War diorama he took during a foggy morning overlooking the pond adjacent to my driveway. The atmospheric effect is stunning.

I think Louis has answered this......Yes and Louis' back yard - all it did was persistently rain this 'summer' in England as I recall......

That is the K&C Burnside Bridge circa 2000 displayed with early K&C glossy Civil War figures circa 1990 (which greatly resemble Britains Ltd or Swoppet Civil War figures).

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

The action heats up as McClellan- after discussion with his general staff -orders up the artillery "to blast them Rebs out of that corn-field".

Battery B 4th US Artillery prepare their onslaught. In the rear the rest of 1st Corps move up to support their colleagues who are now falling back from the impact of Hood's Texas Brigades.

An artillery sergeant lines up his canister shot using a sight-level just as the left flank cannon gets it's first shot off.

Outstanding UKReb, ho hum how bored I've become, LOL:D

Great storyline and shots. Thanks for posting.:)

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

UK Reb
You are a master. You will have me going back to collecting ACW if you are not careful. I love the way you mix and match all those different manufacturers together. With these massed ACW dioramas I don't think minor differences in style and scale are serious problems. Do you have any Conte SOS figures.
Keep up the good work.
Regards
Damian

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

Atta Boy Reb! Give 'em the bayonet! The bayonet Sir!

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

The punishing Federal artillery barrage halts the Texan advance through the corn-field. Lee sends in Wade Hampton's cavalry to cover Hood's retreat but they are easy targets for Union sharpshooters and are forced to dismount and fight on foot.

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

As the battle of Antietam began to shift towards the Confederate centre, positioned along a sunken road, Robert E Lee rode along the line accompanied by his general staff.
When Lee came to Col John B Gordon and his 6th Alabama regiment he asked him "Can you hold this position Colonel"
Gordon answered "These men are going to stay here General, till the sun goes down or victory is won"

The 6th Alabama start to take up their positions along the sunken road destined to go down in history as "Bloody Lane". TO BE CONTINUED...........

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

And yet , elsewhere...... the battle is over for one Reb

Re: Antietam: Carnage in the Corn-field

Be very careful my Lord General I've a hunch the Texans under the guidance of the UKReb's have other plans for them Yankee blue coats. Great photos and story line gentleman and Bob I've no idea how to enlarge the wowee posted by KV and the best I can do is triple WOWEEE, WOWEEE, WOWEEE in small caps......The Lt.
