"The Zulu War" (2 Viewers)

Thanks for the greetings and info.

Great pics Lt. and very informative. I'll check it all out and make up my mind.

About the gatling guns; I know they can sometimes be bought on ebay, but which one is best? Qualitywise I mean.

Most figures mix in well (in the diorama pics certainly only being able to make them out by looking at their bases) except for the Conte's.
I bought two of their sets to get casualties, among them the famous clump-o-zulus. You never can have enough casualties.

I'd better order a LL catalog as it seems (according to this forum) that only a small portion is on their website.

And good news about Trophy. The later figures with the grassy/muddy bases are very nice. They really add to it and still look traditional and glossy.

Neither side is giving in as the fighting rages on..........The Lt.

The movie Zulu was always one of my favorites. The Lt. has brought this movie to life, in little soldiers. Great job Lt. Battle On, Mike.

The fighting continues as B Company slowly begins to fall back towards the biscuit box barricade..........The Lt.

Lt. Do ever wargame your defense of Rorkes drift? My Conte collection of buildings and painted plastics all went into storage { locked up tight in a steel building at the farm, and I've played one, total one battle with it}today along with just about all my other playset boxes.Nice day and I almost went off course and set it all up on the old flatbed dumptruck.
I really like all the glossy figures, not so much the gloss but the style.
Really like your collection and your discipline and dedication to this subject.

Fubar I'm the only one war gaming at Rorke's Drift. Of all the figures in my collection of toy soldiers Trophy by far tends to be my favorite and I wish I had spent more time and effort collecting them when I could afford it. Like you I do perfer Matte over gloss but I found that I perfer Trophy finished in Gloss. By the way looking to see more photos from you posted you've been goofing off lately. Hope all's been well at your end.........The Lt.

Good to see these nice dioramas.
As it's the first time I run into a all zulu war topic on a forum I would like to ask some questions;

I've been interested in the zulu war some time now and would like to make a diorama.
I have a few A call to arms and Conte sets as well as Britains 'holding the line part 1' and 'Durnfords last stand' sets.

With Corgi starting a zulu war range at the beginning of 2007, what to collect up till then?
I've seen on these boards that Trophy is out of business but Little Legion might be ok. However I don't have too much to spend so I won't buy them to try them. LL's online catalog features tiny grainy pics.

Is there any guide to compare the different (available) figures Size/paint/detailwise?

I'll probably buy some Tradition figures to paint myself to beef up the ranks.
For those interested in homecasting; Dutkins sells several zulus and brits, which i don't really like, but they do have one zulu that actually looks great and has a smooth rectangular base instead of the textured one. looks very toysoldier-ish and out of place in their lineup. http://www.dutkins.com/catalog/photos/LA/2406.JPG
The photo is bad (bad angle and bended shield) but it's really nice in person.

Oh yes, which gatling gun (army version) should I hunt down? Trophy, Britains or LL (or some version i don't know of:))

Thanks Joachim

Joachim you've mentioned above that Corgi is starting a Zulu range this year. have you heard as to when we can expect to see any photos. I've Britains Gatling Gun which I pick up very cheaply awhile back but if I now had a choice I'd go with LL if I couldn't put my hands on one from Trophy on second thought both......The Lt.

Joachim, greetings.

Funny thing Brad. I was talking to Ken Jackson of Maision Militaire as while ago and he said that when he bought the Trophy range there was nearly 5000 different castings most of which hadn't got any indentification of what was in each mould (each mould contains up to 12 figures). He would have to cast each silicone mould to find this out. He hopes to restart Trophy range some time in the future but didn't give any time scales due to the huge task involved.

Jeff

Jeff early in Dec. I heard from Len Taylor that the gentlemen from West Yorkshire was planning to release the whole range this year. Do you know off hand if he planning to provided the figures in kit form or accept request for special orders..........Joe (aka The Lt.)

Joe.

I will be phoning Ken Jackson tomorrow (Monday) to discuss when he plans to have stock of the Patriot Napoleonics, so I will ask him on your behalf what is happening regarding the Trophy range. I will post the answer asap.

Lt, Corgi planned to release the series as part of the 2007/2008 Forward March range. I learned just recently it got pushed back because of the delay in the 2006/2007 ranges.

It will debut early 2008 and will include matt single figures/vignettes and at least one diorama (Rorkes Drift). http://www.corgi.biz/pdfs/2007catalogue/forwardmarch-corgiwebcat07.pdf
Some info is listed at the bottom. Expect about 12 releases.

They have a Chard figure in their 'heroes' lineup right now. It was on of the first releases and recent releases are getting better so i have high hopes for the Zulu War range.

The quality of the figures released so far varies (I own some) but is generally good and in 54mm. I email with the guys in charge of the FM range sometimes and they do tend to give you some info but no pics yet.

Thanks for info on the gatling gun.

Thanks Joachim for the info seems like the only thing we can look forward to is what LL has add to The Zulu Series and showing at the end of this month at the London Show.....Best regards The Lt.

Lt., get this attack under control. They seem to be everywhere. Great Job Mike.

Joe,

I had a chat with Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire earlier on this afternoon about Trophy. He was quite open about it all and basically he is in the middle of cataloguing the vast number of masters, castings and the huge piles of moulds. I asked about the time scales and which ranges will be re-launched first. He couldn’t give a time scale, which considering the task in front of him is only fair but promised to do his best.
WW1 and Zulu War could be first depending on demand and will be offered as gloss or matte finish. Due to copyright problems castings are not going to be made available at this stage (this may change in the future).
Figures might be supplied as singles and small sets (3?) with variable makeup, i.e. figures not all in the same position.
Ken has had a lot of interest in Trophy so far and gave the impression that the more people ask the more the likelihood that a certain range will be produced.
Hope this helps.

Regards

Jeff
