Didn't you have to had chicken pox to get shingles? I heard that but don't really know.

Yes, that's a fact, shingles is caused by a reactivation of the existing Chicken pox virus. I had bad chicken pox in my early teens and got shingles in early 30's, probably due to stress, being married with Two toddlers may have been a contributing factor

Yes, that's right Mark, but if you've not had chicken pox, you can be infected with it by contact with someone who has Shingles, and whose spots are still weeping.
