Things that annoy me (6 Viewers)

I wish we could so easily separate those who deserve a handout and those who do not.

I mentioned before that I went to college with a guy from West Virginia who was there on a sports scholarship.

His father was a coal miner and his mom was a waitress, he had 7 brothers and sisters, from the stories he shared he was the epitome of food deficient. He used to tell us how his mom did her best to stretch every morsel to feed the family even with government buttistance.

Our cafeteria only served brunch and dinner on weekends. I remember once telling him that I was not going to survive waiting for dinner on a Saturday. Without missing a beat he looked me right in the eye and told me to take a nap. He said as a kid that he learned that sleep could sometimes defeat hunger. As I half laughed and turned he warned me that sometimes hunger wins.
Good points, but there is another point - the experience you are relaying are the most sad b/c 9 out of 10 times, that Family doesn't get the help and could really use it. Unfortunately, there are limited checks and balances, and the system is gamed/scammed by just that - scammers. I am not against assistance in any way, but I do believe there should be regulation, I mean for crying out loud, the government wants to regulate everything, how about trying and starting with the existing programs. I am sure some people will think I am parroting a talking point, it may be one, but I am serious in my thought, it is plain common sense and why everyone doesn't think that way will continue to elude me. There is ZERO common sense displayed on a daily basis by our government at all levels.

With the redistricting under way and policies being employed, it may not happen in my lifetime, but I could seriously see 2 Countries emerge from the USA. There are States out there right now that do not rely on the Federal government funding. Texas is one of them. IF you strip away Federal funding, it is still a State with a healthy balance sheet. They have the right mix of tax revenue right now between increasing commercial and residential. They have natural resources that they can command, they have water and waterways. They could in theory privatize the airports, they could actually charge the military rent. I know a lot of that sounds pie in the sky, but if you look at it strictly by numbers, it is possible. Interesting, nonetheless.

I don't know about 2 countries but a lot of people in South Jersey would like to split from the North. The North is more like NY jr.

The Health Care System. I may have little to no coverage next year or pay premiums I can't really afford. Not blaming any party, but would like to see something changed.
On a lighter note, salt shakers with sugar in them or vice versa. Still better than the solidified ketchup bottles...
Stay in there

True words, as a government, we continue to scream and yell about healthcare, yet no one has produced a quality solution to this day. The only solutions proposed are ones that bankrupt the government (which would make them not work) or ones that don't cover anyone (again, they don't work).

Maddening honestly.

I'm 79 and in my life time I have never seen this country this divided. Instead of getting better it is getting worse. And I'm not proud of it but when I see some of these politicians, mostly democrats , I feel the same way in regards I can't stand them. The one thing is dems hate Trump so bad they are against anything he does and they do not have an alterrnate plan.

Unfortunately there will always be those that milk the system no matter what, however you're right it would be nice to see those poor souls who genuinely need assistance get it and those taking advantage told where to go.

We here in NZ have a growing welfare dependent segment of society that has successfully managed to reproduce generations of bone idle, useless lay-about lumps of oxygen thieves, who despite being able bodied and fully capable of work, never do.......yet successive govts, continue to enable them in their infinite quest to sit on their butts and contribute as little as possible to society.

Tom:

Agreed 100%.

However……

Even with every safe guard and regulation in place people will always find a way to cheat and defeat the system.

That doesn’t mean that those that deserve help should not get it, a hard-working family who does everything they can to make ends meet should not be punished for acts of others.

Dont disagree and the regulation should be simple and easy to implement. You have to have something ot else nobody gets help which is unfortunately where I think it is headed. I am not against giving help to those in need.

Last night on the local news they were interviewing this guy who was not getting his snap payments. The reason he was getting those payments is because he is a recovering alcoholic, or at least that's the way I understood it. I hope I'm wrong but why should he get payments? He put himself in that position. Nobody forced him to drink. I like my booze as much as anyone but I did not let it rule my life. I wish I had the compassion of some people but I just don't. Everything I have I earned. I always worked my regular job and 2 or 3 others at the same time. Plus because of my job I seen how others lived. And in no way did it come close to my way of life. I'm so bad that I see these pleas for money to feed the starving people of the world but when one comes on about starving dogs I have to turn it off as it's to sad!

I'm turning 65 next month, so as of 12/01 I come off the private insurance I've paid a small fortune for since I started my business about 30 years ago/became self employed, it was through the Massachusetts small business association, between Medicare A and B and my supplemental/gap insurance, I'll be paying about 800.00 less a month........so the OLDER I get, the LESS I pay..............hmm, that seems butt backwards..........gee, let me try to figure this out...........the fortune I PAID no doubt funded the have nots so they got health insurance somehow too then...............

What a broken toilet of a system.

"I'm turning 65 next month..." you whippersnapper!

On an AI note I recently got into an AI doom loop with an extremely large retailer that delivers quickly to your door. The thing was defective so I opted to return it.

However some label was needed. It did not have such label.

I tried every way to politely get across to the customer care AI that I could not do what they specified, so could I speak to a person. After several non-starters I finally reached an option for them to call me. On several attempts, nothing happened except a 'failed call' every time (what is that apart from a computer telling you to go away?). Back to the doom loop yet again.

It was eventually sorted when I went partisan, to not follow the AI and try to block it so it got frustrated. Eventually it put me through to a human and we sorted it in seconds!

I probably don't have that many years left ..... what a lot to look forward to ... AI assists you in all sorts of ways ....

AI...especially on "phone trees"...has virtually replaced the human touch...whether it is cost effective for the company...I have no idea...but as I struggle with accents...not trying to sound like a racist...I do miss a live person that speaks English as their primary language and someone that I can verbally communicate what I need help with...I just don't hear well...calling Geico Insurance is truly a nightmare...it takes about 8-10 minutes to navigate through their tree...before I can get directed to the right department...Ebay is a time consuming as well...
