Things that annoy me (5 Viewers)

Tom,

I agree that communication is important, however we all have a 'bias' based on our culture, religion etc that seems to make it difficult for some to see anothers point of view, which obviously does 'test' people now and then.

Anyhow, I do enjoy renovating work, I have repainted about 50% of my house and today I arranged for all the 'junk' out of my old shed, plus a surplus old bed etc, to be taken to the tip (garbage dump). The garden maintenance guy of our complex, who also works at Australia Zoo, is always happy to help me out as we have similar interests in animals, the environment etc. He quoted me $30 in tip fees but when he returned he said they charged him $50, there's no exact method in their fee calculations, depends on who is on the weigh bridge at the time, so I gave him another $20.

But talk about 'things that annoy me', $50 for a few items, some of which they could resell, it's no wonder people just dump stuff in the bush around here.
That is government at its best, there is a fee for everything, in Maryland, we have a flush tax as well as a rain tax at one time.

They are but honestly they usually become economic booms for spending. Interesting how that works.
TD

There's certainly a lot of spending lately, and some individuals and countries may experience an economic boom. However, for most countries, an economic boom usually requires reliable fuel (Oil) supplies. Don't forget that Japan went to war in WW2 due to Oil (and Iron) embargoes. China's economy is currently suffering because they get most of their oil from Iran, and Iran will exploit this further. I knew Iran were in this war for the long term when they started to mine the straights etc. Yeah some guys on the forum may say; 'bring China and Russia on, we can take them', but approx 80% of Americans don't want this war, and Trump is becoming less popular on a daily basis, and the guy is nearly 80, that is the reality.

The Bank of England is removing the image of Winston CHurchill (and Alan Turing) from the currency. They will be replaced by scenes of nature. How sad.
Yes, current figures other than Charlie boy on the banknotes are, Churchill on the £5, Jane Austen the Author on the £10, Joseph Turner, the artist on the £20 and Alan Turing on the £50.

Before 1960. When Queen Elizabeth first appeared on banknotes, with a depiction of Britain's on the otherside, there was only Britannia on front of banknotes (10 shilling and £1) and a depiction of the Bank of England on the other.

The Bank of England says controversy over some of the choices of figures is why they're going to change.

Controversy and not wanting to upset the French and Spanish probably explains why Lord Nelson never got to appear, though the Duke of Wellington did.

As to the proposed future changes, that which mustn't be mentioned is probably the driver behind this, just my opinion of course.

I don't want a prolonged war either. That said, if it takes a month of outright destruction on our part to eliminate the future thread and kill everyone in that regime, I can stomach that. Interestingly enough, my energy projects are like gangbusters, more work than time here in the US.

Tom, IMO there's too much emphasis placed on 'destroying' their leaders, they will soon be replaced, usually by someone 'badder'. Iran has a population of 90 million, Ten times Israel's, and the increasing 'collateral' damage in this war will ensure an increasing number of 'martyrs' to their 'cause'. And they won't stop if/when Trump decides to 'stop' his war, it will be a 'never ending war against the Devil' to them.

As for energy, our state and federal governments have cut subsidies etc to home owners, and the energy companies no longer want solar power 'contributions' from consumers due to technical issues etc. I'm not sure what those issues are, I looked at getting solar power with batteries etc but have decided to wait and see. I haven't paid a power bill in over 18 months due to government grants, but that stopped recently, so my power bill will be ramping up each quarter, estimated average of $350 over Three months. Which is not bad considering I use the Aircon more in my Autumn years, at 67 prob more like my Winter years ;)

“Use it or lose it”

According to the report by government watchdog “Open the Books”...in the final month of the 2025 fiscal year...the Department of Defense run by Secretary Pete Hegseth...blew $93 billion in his department’s federal funding at the end of the year...that has ignited a firestorm of criticism over many “wasteful luxury purchases"... the entire budget for the Department of Defense was $866 billion…he didn't use it all and just spent frivolously to exhaust what was left...

a practice known as “use it or lose it”... means the Department of Defense moved to exhaust it’s remaining budget to avoid future funding cuts on future funding budget requests…in other words...if you didn’t exhaust the funding...why should we give you more next year...

wasting the money on luxury items...just as the US enters a costly war with Iran...and noting the $93 billion could have funded tax credits on Obama Care (ACA) for 3 years…instead the current administration voted out Obama Care...leaving 22 million Americans with no tax credits causing their health insurance to more than double…

President Trump has proposed a historic $1.5 trillion DOD budget for the coming year...marking a roughly 50% proposed increase over previous levels...

some items in his wasteful spending spree...the numbers and volume are staggering...

$6.9 million for lobster

$15.1 million on ribeye steaks

$2 million on Alaskan king crab

Nearly $140,000 on doughnuts

Over $124,000 on ice cream machines

$98,329 Steinway & Sons grand piano for an Air Force residence

$225 million in furniture, featuring individual chairs costing nearly $1,900

$12,540 for fruit basket stands

$5.3 million on Apple devices

“use it or lose it”...is just a shameful spending of American citizen’s tax dollars...and this is not just a Republican thing...Democrats have done this also...however nothing comes close to the waste from this administration…this has drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle…

just reporting the facts...

What a load of crap. Winston Churchill was one of the greatest leaders in history, as ever was and as ever will be. What a disgrace by the Bank of England.
Tom
To be fair Churchill has only been on a banknote the last ten years, as the person other than the monarch changes along with other security devices changes every once in a while.
As a child in the sixties, it was Queen Elizabeth with Britannia, then the Duke of Wellington and the Battle if Waterloo, followed by George Stephebson and the first railway, then Elizabeth Fry, Prison reform and now Churchill, both with the late Queen Elizabeth and now with Charlie.

I am not defending this practice as early on in my career, Microsoft hired me to audit their vendors who had use or lose type arrangements. That said as you indicated, welcome to government, it never ends no matter who is in charge. Also, I would bet if you do a full analysis on the last 25 years of administration and adjust for market pricing, you are going to see a very similar pattern.

Regardless, as a citizen, it is maddening and painful to bear. The worst part is................there are 50 States plus territories that all do the same thing. Additionally, there are an unimaginable number of Taxing Districts and Cities nationwide who do the same crapola. Imagine the total cost and waste. Sad isn't it? Greed knows no political red or blue line, it is all GREEN.

If you want to see a perfect example of this that was finally stopped, read about the history of Duval County Texas and the "Duke of Duval". It is one of those you can't make it up. Incidentally, it is also the County whose corruption swung for Lyndon Johnson congressional seat in the infamous 1948 election and...........well the rest is history!

At the end of the fiscal year we had to drone around in our USAF acft to burn fuel so the amount used would not be less than budgeted. A friend of mine in the Navy said they would dump fuel over the ocean for the same reason.

Here is an outright disgusting display of free speech in America - the most assuredly Anti Israel Pro Iran demonstration happening in NYC Times Square. Shouts of support for Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. I don't want to hear anything that this is Trump's fault. We have allowed this crap for much longer than that in the name of Free Speech. To me, this is not free speech, this is definite support for Terrorists and Hate Speech and our own freedoms are being exploited. If it were up to me, I would reign holy hell upon these terrorists, because once again, these are terrorists hiding behind the word protest and our idiotic society is allowing it. Ya know, Rome once crumbled from within...............

The real irony is if these idiots were protesting in Iran, they would be dead, so the very freedom they are Saying Death To..............

Nobody wants war but everybody knows Iran wants to have nuclear weapons and will use them and when somebody actually tries to stop them they are the bad guys. I guess these are the type of people that would've given Hitler everything he wanted so we could have peace in our time. For 47 years they have been behind the killing of thousands and thousands of people worldwide. They chant death to America and Israel everyday and want to destroy the West but people are more concerned about gas prices.

WNBA (whatever that is) players; "Pay us what we're worth!!"................."Ok, here's $0."

The next time I watch an WNBA game will be the first time, a league that has literally lost money every day since it began.

I think it's funny that someone thought the WNBA is such a money-maker that he ran right out and started a second women's professional basketball league, "Unrivalled". Well, to be more precise, it's a couple of women basketball players behind it. But it's really just the WNBA with less whorish makeup.

Prost!
