Hi all, anyone heard from my Mate TomT from the Northern Aussie Territory??

He has kind of lost his interest in collecting so he says. I guess that's why he's not on the forum.

He texts me sometimes and have heard from him recently.

I haven't heard from Tom for over a year, thought he'd be heading to South Australia to get away from the tropics in Darwin.

He isn't alone mate the prices are ridiculous it's not a hobby anymore hobbies aren't meant to send you broke I'm going to sell the majority of my collection and call it quits.

I share the pain. My collecting has slowed greatly and also plan to sell a portion of my collection in the near future. Chris

Likewise at my end. I'm 73 and it seems that the older I get the more I think "what's the point?" As you have both mentioned, prices are getting higher which concerns me too, but after years in this hobby, I have just plan run out of display room. I now only collect JJD and am only actively collecting three ranges. When I have collected what I want from those three ranges I will probably be done. I am currently selling off some of my older sets from ranges I have lost interest in or need to move out in order to make room for the new.

I also have lost some interest and that is partly due to the high costs. I plan to retire within the next year and have to focus more on real life. I do have one project that I want to keep working on but that is in 1/72 scale.

I miss Tom. I thought he had stopped texting me because of differences in our views on Covid and vaccines, but if he is not texting anyone maybe I was wrong. If anyone hears from him, please pass along my best wishes.

Louis mate,

you're such a gentleman I doubt that is why Tom hasn't continued contact with you, most likely just lost interest in the hobby. That said, who knows why people do what they do, I have a cousin that closed his Facebook account when Trump was voted out, I haven't heard from him since.

As for the Covid issue, I never thought it was a good idea to have Covid threads on this forum. I actually agreed with most of the members here regarding some Covid concerns such as the overreaction by most governments etc. The only real issue I had was when members provided incorrect information about the vaccines.

And so it goes on, starting from today the State Government Department I am currently working for will no longer allow people on the work site that have not had at least One Covid vaccination, consequently they will be required to be Double Vaccinated. Personally I don't agree with that policy as people have a right not to have the vaccines if they don't want to. However IMHO they do not have the right to spread misinformation about vaccines. Of course there will be some forum members that don't share my point of view. That's ok with me, some people don't agree with my views on Scale sizing and other Toy Soldier issues. Big deal, get over it, that's life on or off the forum.

Louis mate,
Just a heads up cobber. I had not heard from Tom since the start of Covid and the Sale of my K&C Dealership in 2019. However, on Christmas Day 2021 I received and answered the following text message.

"Merry Christmas Howard, I hope you and the good wife are well and you both have an awesome day"

"Tom mate, Great to hear from you cobber. I hope you also are safe and well in this Covid age. Have a very Happy Christmas and I wish you a fantastic New Year"

As my good mate Matt (Oz Digger) has already mentioned, I don't think it had anything to do with you. Tom always attended Andy's K&C Dinners in July of each year in either Brisbane or Melbourne in the Land of OZ. Sadly, we have not had a visit from young Andy since 2019. However, we hope that will change in July 2022. Tom, also became too deeply involved in the Covid Debate which as you know did put "brother against brother."

Cheers from the Land Down Under, Howard

I enjoyed Tom...he was a very cool guy...he actually called me several times from Australia to my USA residence and we discussed Magic Water and other things...we met up and hung out in San Antonio, had dinner together and many drinks after...really cool guy...hate to see him retire from the hobby...he did some really nice displays to show off his collection...

funny story...he asked me to pick him up a lot of foliage (both dried and preserved) from a company in the US...when I saw him in San Antonio I delivered it to him...he told me that when he returned to Australia...they made him dispose of it at the airport...Australia apparently has some pretty strict rules on importing plants and agricultural products...

As many have written Tom is a top notch Mate!! I loved his visit to my home some years ago and we had a blast visiting Tombstone, Mount Lemmon, Air and Space museum, just a all around good dude....when I was going through my tough times with divorce, he wrote me here and called me from his home....If any of you boys down under talk with him please pass a message that I'm trying to contact him.

Sammy I fear Tom has dropped down a very dark Covid related 'rabbit hole' and has difficulty finding the end, I'm sure he'll reappear at some stage. ^&confuse

Cheers Toddy

That's odd, as Tom was so easy going when he visited here, I don't the understand Covid-19 scare?? Yea, it's a terrible virus but maybe because I was on the front lines as a essential worker ( Meat business) I really didn't have time to stay home or worry if I'd get the virus, I went on about my life as any other time, maybe my ignorance, but never had a sniffle in 2 years....anyway, hoping Tom returns and hope he is well.

Covid has really messed up a lot of people's mind. They have said that even Putin is terrified of it.

I'm sure he'll pop back in here eventually. ^&grin

He should come back and read this. One of the most powerful ways to boost your health is hearing people express gratitude for you. It’s like a miracle drug according to neuroscientists.

It would be like getting to attend your own funeral (which I hope isn’t apropos) and listening to the unvarnished views of many people.

There’s no sarcasm in this post. I am serious (though it did take some effort not to throw a pun in right there.)

I sold Tom a few chunks of my collection over the years and always had a great experience with him.

Totally agree with your comment about people spreading misinformation about the vaccines. I have a major issue with people claiming vaccines can do things that not long after turn out to be untrue. However luckily President of USA, Fauci, Head of CDC and Oz Federal Health Minister are not members of this forum so I don't get to be able to refer them to their previous claims (ie. Video clips and press releases) that turned out to be untrue.
