Finally got this latest little scene done. Still intending to fabricate a wooden base for it, but that will have to wait a bit longer. I wanted to use these 2 figures from Andrea and thought I'd create a single scenario for both of them.

The kits are both 54 mm metal items and the base is a piece of homasote panel with a covering of glue, water, dirt and saw dust.

First photos are of the kit box art, and the base in prior to completion mode. Also was not crazy about the completely hairless Yul Brenner figure so added some hair to him using milliput.

Finished photos will follow in the next post.....:)

And here are some images of the finished scene. Not my cleanest paintjobs by any means, but somehow with these characters a little grunge factor works just fine I think. After a couple of experiments with that liquor bottle (1 painted on and one glued on paper label) I found the labels to be too distracting from the rest of the figure and went with a plain coat of clear gloss in the end. Also use a bit of tinted magic water to fill those mud puddles criss crossed by the wagon tracks. Hope you like em'. :)

Very nice indeed. You have become a very accomplished painter and enjoy looking at your work

Very nicely done vignette David . . . . . Grunge is Good . . . .
:smile2: Mike

Yes, very nice work. Your efforts on these two Andrea kits is superb. The facial hair is a good addition!

Noah

Very nice, Dave!
The paint style and finish, the scenic base and in particular the added facial hair for the cowboy, all great work.
Wonderful vignette.
Konrad

Looks really good. That bandito is about to have a bad day. The Brenner figure looks much better with the hair. -- Al

Mitch, Mike, Noah, Konrad and Al, thank you very much for commenting and glad you find these 2 figures to your liking.

Really appreciate the comments Mitch, as it has been and continues to be a steep learning curve. Always picking up new ideas and at the same time trying to avoid repeating bad habits with these projects.

And ya'know Mike, it is true that sometimes a little grunge is definitely a good thing. Especially on a seedy character like this one with the sombrero. :rolleyes2:

Also glad you all like the added hair on the other figure. Was a pretty easy conversion actually. Forgot to mention I also replaced the original dinky little hat with a bigger model.

May eventually break the base down into 2 separate little bases. Dunno for sure. Despite my great hopes, I am having trouble feeling inspired by this one. Got more great characters to add to this scene in time so stay tuned. :)

Thanksmuch for posting them.

Absolutely top marks-since we first discussed your proposed entry into painting Andrea metal kits-What over a year ago? you have really come on leaps and bounds.

Kudos to you sir-really fine work and I just love your addition of the upper lip/chin whiskers

Thank you for the feedback and glad you like these guys. They were a lot of fun to work with. Homasote is an older form of insulating board made of pressed paper. It comes in plywood sized sheets and is about 1/2 inch thick or so. It is pretty easy to shape for bases and very inexpensive.

Hi Bob. Glad you've chimed in and appreciate the encouragement from an accomplished painter and scenery master like yourself.

Yes, it has been a fun year learning from each successive attempt at painting figures. Have benefitted greatly from lurking on some of the painters forums and from trial and error of course. And this has all allowed me to finally focus more on the Western stuff I crave. Absolutely thrilled that Andrea has added a 7th Cavalry 1876 line to their catalog now for example.

I think you will enjoy the next project. First portion was finished over the weekend but the 2nd portion is going to be a bit more labor intensive so won't be done for a while I'm afraid.

See you around and belated happy birthday....

Just a quick update on this one......really was disappointed with the original single base. Too flat and uninteresting to look at, so....dug them out and "replanted" them on individual little bases. Like the results much better. :)
