It is very hard to accuse terrorists of hypocrisy when all they appear to believe in is death, pain and suffering. They are anti-ideals that require little nuance in thinking or greatness of spirit on the part of the individual.

Depending on who did this we may find that they believed in some reward in their version of the afterlife. There is a difference in commitment between those who know they will die for a cause such as suicide bombers and those who will kill for a cause. I wouldn't want to be have to be seated between the two.
 
The photos, published below and on the FBI’s website, offer the first public glimpse of the men investigators believe are responsible for planting separate homemade bombs near the finish line of the marathon on Boston’s Boylston Street.

The fact that the FBI labeled the men “suspects” versus “persons of interest” indicates they have strong evidence that these are the men behind the bombings.

Local news is reporting that one of the dirtbags is dead, multiple gunshot wounds and also "blast" wounds - might have been wearing an explosive device. Also a policeman has been reported killed and an MBTA policeman (transit) is said to have been wounded. The dead dirtbag is one pictured in the black cap, massive manhunt underway for the other one.

The city is apparently in lockdown. They are apparently from Chechnya, who immigrated to the USA via Kazakhstan and were going to a local college.

Unfortunate that one or two individuals can cause so much disruption. In a million years, I would never have guessed that Chechyians were behind this. To the extent that there is any motive to their actions, it is probably to draw attention to the situation in Chechnya. And they probably succeeded in that respect.
 
It's hard to say at this point. CNN just did an interview with one of the surviving suspect's high school classmate and he was shocked as was everybody at his high school, to say the least.
 
I hope they're able to pick the younger brother alive. This is of paramount importance in order to retrieve intel. Besides motive, what seems to me the most important issue is to weather they were indoctrinated in the U.S. or not, and so far the first hint points to them being in the U.S. for several years, which may point to a domestic indoctrination, meaning the cell is bigger and within U.S. soil.
 
I'm both amazed and impressed with the lightning fast progress of our law agencies in discovering the identities and capture/demise of one of these suspects...my worst case scenario was that this manhunt might go on for months or years...

Let's just hope they have the right perpertrators. I know we all would love to think they do but it is in fact still very earlier and the fact, extent and motivation of their involvement remain unknowns or unconfirmed. If they were responsible, we still know nothing about who else may have been involved.

This is amazing. All day house to house hunt. The suspects relatives are all over the place ranging from complete denial to not being surprised. I hope that the authorities can get this guy alive as it is pretty important to discover motive, contacts, if any, and any support they may have received in this country. -- Al

I'll go along with the taking him alive to get important information out him only if dies of "natural causes" immediately afterwards ..... I don't my tax dollars paying for his three hots and cot for the next 50-60-70 years of his worthless life.

BREAKING NEWS; gunshots and explosions are being heard in a Watertown neighborhood, a body has been found in a boat located in a backyard..................updates to follow................this might be him..........
 
Confirmed; suspect #2 is cornered in a boat in a backyard in Watertown.

Boat owner noticed blood on the cover, called police, house was surrounded, he's alive and is cornered............
