Stumbled upon a vintage cloth doll of a Beefeater from the 1930's, an old souvenier of London, its about 10 inches tall, thought it would look good displayed with my toy soldiers:

Since finding the old Beefeater cloth doll, I did a few internet searches, found and obtained a couple of other cool vintage WWI Cloth Soldier Dolls to display with my collection. Here is a photo of a WWI British Tommy or U.S. "Dough Boy" figure:

I think you're correct. The uniform certainly looks like a German soldier's uniform circa 1914.

Thanks Brad! It has red piping. Do you know what branch of service it is? Infantry? Artillery?

After I stumbled across the Steiff WWI soldier, I did some on line research and found out Steiff did at least 120 different soldiers, from just about any country you could think of, between 1903 and 1920. There were everything from Fire Zouaves to pre-war U.S. infantry, Highlander's, even Italian mountain troops. I also saw that I got a great deal, as I have seen them regularly sell for north of $1,000! Today I stumbled across a Steiff 1915 doll of a German policeman with a $400 buy it now, and I couldn't resist. Photos to follow upon receipt.
