So what is the maximum amount of money you would spend on a retired K&C set?

Most ever paid, or I should say, most my wife ever paid was £500 for a K&C set.

No more than what I paid for the Snow Tiger ( $225 Can).

Tough question .... In general, I try not to pay more than 1.5 times whatever the original release price was ... in general. :rolleyes:

But, once I foolishly got caught up in a eBay bidding war, where the final winning bid (for an AK11 set) was something like $477 {eek3} and thankfully I lost! I was rewarded in that about a month later another AK11 set appeared and it was just slightly over release. That one I won. {sm4}

My logic is,...... I have no plans to sell many of the "precious" items that I have acquired over the years, so long term hopefully the price will equal out.

Tough question it depends on the set. I spent $1200.00 to get a retired KC wooden warbird. True value is eg hat somebody will pay for it. Look at some of the Russian stuff. I sold an older 88 set that was a duplicate for almost $800.00 before the recession. It was not even nib, but 95%.

I never paid over the odd for a K&C item but have paid a lot less , but that me :)

its a tough question but id say i really would depend on how much i wanted or would enjoy the set or figure in practicular

As stated by others it will certainly depend on whether it was a single; mounted or vehicle.

Perhaps I will find out if I am lucky enough to see any early KC figures for sale at the Texas show 26 27MAY12.

Hope to see you there,

Ludwig

Will be honest, I bought AN01 for $350, and AN016 for about the same, but got AN02 for £280. I have been given or have got sets for much less though, for example maybe five years ago Alex Dakar gave me the original Arnhem 44 Lt Col. John Frost and Special Para with Tommy Gun for $25 each, or AIDMAN who just sold me an original LCVP for an amazing price!{eek3} This hobby lets you meet people who at some point may turn round and offer you a set for peanuts which is something I am very thankful to this forum for!^&grin So many great people but just one forum!:wink2:

But here's the thing, the prices for retired King and Country sets have decreased so much in the past few years that it is not as hard to get what you used to want in retired and discontinued sets. The thing is, I now have nearly every King and Country retired and discontinued set which I have ever wanted and I feel very lucky for this as now I can concentrate on the newer sets I like!^&grin I say 'nearly have' as I would still like to get the 88mm gun and crew sets, however would have no where to put it, although the thought of just the 88mm gun sitting with dead Germans around beside the road which XXX Corps are taking is ever slightly tempting!:wink2:^&grin

Do not like paying anything much beyond $400 & resent doing it, especially when you see the original item was under $100. A 400% profit is getting a bit rich in anyone's language. Guess it makes sense to try and keep up with the latest releases so you do not end up chasing them in a few years time. Where I have been caught is my idea's changing towards a series like say Imperial China and suddenly a catch up was needed with a series not regarded previously, probably sparked by a movie or book. Cheers, Robin.

I thought scott made an interesting point about the closing of price gap between new released sets and retired items. There is always the exception for some sets that go for decent or crazy money (depending on ones stance) but, the gap has narrowed and, you can now get older sets for less than you have to pay for new sets.

From looking around recently lots of sets I have seen go have not done nearly as well as I would have once thought or, expected.
