What Toy Soldier items Have You Acquired in The Last 2 Weeks ? (5 Viewers)

I also got these 15 hollowcast Britains. I should enjoy painting these up. As I am not that familiar with hollowcast figures, these pieces were surprisingly very light. No broken parts at all, except some are missing right arms.

Glad you liked them too. I was just surprised at the quality of the castings myself, considering that these are very old. I suspect that these are figures stripped off their paintwork. I guess I was lucky.

I hope to purchase replacement arms from Dorset for the missing right arms.

Very nice B-17 plane.

Who made this plane ?

Serge :)

Serge, that’s “Little Miss Mischief” from Corgi. The production run was fairly low at 1100. I mention that because AA33316 is about sold out with dealers. When that ultimately occurs, a good one will set a buyer back $300+.

Hi Moe, I sold off my 1/72 diecast aircraft collection several years back. At the time prices seemed to be dropping, mainly due to over production, of course the rarer sets remained relatively stable. How are things now?

In terms of new releases, it’s improved to the extent that production runs are a fraction of what they were five years ago. That allows collectors to pick and choose and to have a reasonable shot at recovering some of their costs when it comes time to sell. As for ALL that product that was manufactured in lots of 3-5 thousand, I suspect that much of it won’t recover much in the way of its value in my lifetime. Observation certainly suggests that the collector base has shrunk, and much of what was produced simply lacks the necessary desirability to fetch a premium price. Many, many diecast model molds have only a release or two (out of fifteen or twenty produced) that collectors want to be left holding, as nice, sound examples of the type that is. Everything else can be viewed as something of an extravagance, kissing off $$$, that is. There are a few molds that are exceptions to what I’m suggesting, but not many. Corgi’s B-17 is one such bright spot, but there aren’t a heck of a lot of them.

Hi Moe, thanks for the quick response, good to know they've seen the error of their ways. I used to have a decent 1/72 collection, my B17's were; Memphis Belle, Sweet and Lovely, Yankee Doodle, favourite was Bit O Lace. The only 1/72 model I have now is Corgi Lancaster RAAF G-George that my Father flew in which is now on display in the Australian War Memorial Museum in Canberra, Australia. Funny thing is he didn't actually realise he had flown in G-George until late in his life, at the time it was just another Lanc that he did some training flights in.

Yo can get them with Gauntlets or without - and also with Gauntlets at the low carry too. jb

Hello JB,

thanks for that. You read my mind...:)

I ventured into a military antique store in Nuremburg almost a month ago. I came across the most stunning display of Elastolin soldiers I have ever seen- dozens of the windup tanks, the truck with the working spotlight, two sets of the telephone repairmen, dozens of the trench sections then a massive brown shirt display complete with Hitler and his staff car. The proprietor wouldn't allow pictures of his store but he was very gracious in showing me all his figures on display. I picked up 2 German Wehrmacht figures and an Elastolin Polar Bear from the 1920's for my daughter. I also picked up a Third Reich work permit for a German news correspondent (for my daughter as well). Good times.

I finally got my Heavies......

Some cheap (16 USD total) resin temple dog/lion statues from China. 3 different sets. The small ones are probably more to scale with the figures, but the big ones just look so impressive. Sculpting is good, some casting flaws on the backside that I'll be repairing, but who looks at the back anyway?

I'll be tarting these up, by repainting the bases like stone and some weathering of the statues themselves.

Large red temple lion set:

Large gold temple lion set (same sculpts as the red ones):
