What Toy Soldier items Have You Acquired in The Last 2 Weeks ? (3 Viewers)

Last 2 weeks......K&C : Eva Braun , Traudl Junge, New LAH Officer standing with sword, New LAH PanzerJager Tank,and another K&C SnowTiger. Can't hurt to have 2 of these !

Here are my latest acquisitions, for the stash, for future projects....

A Stadden Prussian cuirassier officer, which I picked up off eBay:

DSCN1515.jpg

DSCN1516.jpg

Sold as Seydlitz, probably because of the pipe. For as much as I love Stadden figures, though, I must concede that many of the "personality" figures in the 54mm line look nothing like the people they're supposed to portray. Anyway, I'm going to paint this one as an officer of Brunswick's Karabinier regiment, serving in western Germany in the Seven Years War. The uniform was virtually identical to that of the Prussian cuirassiers. I'll redo the pipe and the right hand, to make it more convincing:

DSCN1517.jpg

And these figures, I picked up off Berliner Zinnfiguren's online flea market. The first three photos show figures that I have also seen sold by a marketing company called Archiv-Verlag ("Archive Publishing", basically), which is similar to the Franklin Mint:

1ArchivVerlag1.jpg

2ArchivVerlag2.jpg

Berliner Zinnfiguren bundled these lots as pairs of figures, so I wound up with two castings of Fredercik the Great. I have all of these figures, painted, from Archiv-Verlag, but their paint job was so bad that there was no question of stripping the paint and repainting them. These castings are slightly modified to include a base, and were packaged by another outfit called ARA-Kunst. Here is one more of these figures, sold by yet another company:

3Archiv-Verlag3.jpg

Following the origins of figures like this fascinates me.

I also bought this kit of a mounted officer:

4Rylitmountedofficer.jpg

The kit is partially assembled, that is, the horse is assembled. The figure is cast as a single piece. I think that this was made by Rylit of Germany; at least, the horse is similar to horses that Frau Litterscheidt has in her catalog. I haven't matched the figure to any in her catalog, though, so the horse and rider may have different origins.

And here is the last figure I got from Berliner Zinnfiguren, a casting by EMI of Italy of Frederick's queen, Elisabeth Christina von Braunschweig-Bevern:

5EMIElisabethvBevern.jpg

The casting is nicely done, but the finished figure in the box art is almost grotesque. I had to pick this up, because I did not know that anyone at any time had ever modeled Frederick's wife. EMI makes other Seven Years War figures, of which BZ has more in their flea market, so I may pick up some more. They appear to aspire to connoisseur quality in their figures, but they're really kind of mediocre. But they'll do, for my collection.

Two FL ACW cavalry figs (to augment WB series), 5 FL 95th Rifles for NAPS dio, Figarti P38 (beautiful model) and a Hobby Master 1/32 SBD (nice model for the price) and WB ACW and Zulu latest artillery releases. My collection is all over the place! :rolleyes2: Chris

I was able to recently add 3 Britains/Premier sets to my WWI collection, 8914, 8915 and 8918.

Nice artillery sets, Konrad! I liked the Premier series and snap up the Imperial German gun crew when I can find it.

Prost!

Hi Konrad,

You have picked up some truly outstanding sets for your collection! Seeing your WWI collection drives me ever closer to collecting these figures. Congratulations for the excellent additions to your fine collection. And,...thanks for sharing the sets with us. They are terrific!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

UCLA1969...no doubt about it, these Hariat's are beauties! As I was looking your new purchases over something hit me! King & Country should use these Hariat's as examples for another line called "The New Classic Glossy Line". All new sculpting in gloss...not the modern detailed stuff. Small plain bases, old school look^&grin^&grin^&grin I know, I know still dreaming! Though really why do I need a new K&C line when these babies exist^&confuse

I have purchased a couple 71st (the remaining ones from the recent sale, plus one from ebay) for my Hougoumont (only 20-40 more to go!{sm4}{sm2}), the street corner dio listed here, a LE K&C club figure, and a Flashman K&C club figure. The last one is for my upcoming Durbar collection, which I will buy on Thanksgiving, as per a long standing agreement. I will also pick up the latest Britains stuff in a month or so.

Nothing on my end...I haven't found anything attractive Nap wise for a long time to add to my collection...

Hi Mike,

Very cool to see someone else with that Imperial figure. Also on the Durbar line have to say that I like that set as well. I was wondering do you collect a lot of the Durbar line? I see from your albums that you make soldiers and I was really interested in that Hindu Faquir balancing on the pole. Did you do that from a photo or drawing from India? Its really very cool and would really set an interesting focal point for a Bazaar in a Durbar display. Do you sell your work? Drop me a pm so we can chat on this and not hijack the thread.

Just taken delivery of a complete 6 gun battery of castings done by whitemetalmail.com (John Parslow). This is the cannon - from the Prince August range.

80-8.jpg

Though mine are going to be painted green. There are five gun crew to each cannon, and I also have three Officers - to be painted as Battery Commander and two sub-unit Officers. Here's an example of one of the crew members (you can look up the rest on Prince August site).

80-9a.jpg

Now, here's the good part - 6 cannon and 33 crew members and officers - plus postage, cost me £127 ! I have told Treefroggers about this amateur hobbyist home-caster before - and he has to be the least expensive provider of castings around, as he does it purely as a hobby for minimal profit, which he re-invests in more molds - as he just loves casting! I am currently putting the parts together - and will be painting the battery up over the Winter months. I'll show you how I get on later.

Now, how many painted versions would you get for that sort of money? johnnybach{sm5}

Just after I finished writing about my Napoleonic Cannon Battery - the doorbell rang. It was our Postman with a couple more packages for me.

First package was from the USA - so I knew immediately what that one contained. It was from Nick Albanese - who is from Watertown Wisconsin - and contained a dozen dismounted Buffalo Soldiers. I first found out about these from a post by Polar Bear (and a tip from Wadepat too!) recently - and after a bit of correspondence between us - I eventually got in touch with Nick - who owns the molds for these famous soldiers of a by-gone era, (these are around 1860-70) and are the famous 9/10 US Cavalry from the Plains Wars time . These sets give you a flavour of what I have (though mine are castings - of course): I have a dozen of these to make up and paint - and Nick was kind enough to include some alternate heads with stetsons - for me to add to some of the figures - as I wish. I'm REALLY looking forward to MY winter around the "cawfee pot" painting these guys.

As you may note - over the next week or two - I am on one of my "Collecting Castings" periods - whilst I'm in the UK for a while.

My next package was from closer to home - from Irregular Miniatures - and contained some more castings. Some readers might remember me re-furbishing an Old Crescent Western Stagecoach, a while back, and my idea of adding figures to make up a scene from the John Wayne movie "Stagecoach". You know the one? Where the Stage is being pursued by a band of Injuns!{eek3}

Well - my Irregular package contains three mounted warriors, and a few other bits and pieces - but these three are destined to be chasing the stage ( with a few others) at some stage (no pun intended)............Looks like Xmas came early today! johnnybach:D

Yesterday..... A King&Country Berlin Tenement Building . A must have for my Battle for Berlin Diorama !

Got two different Regal/SoW sets just this AM. A gorgeous set of Jodhpur Lancers and an equally brilliant set of 1914 French infantry. The lancers have white coats and are simply beautiful. The 1914 French are resplendent in their red and blue. Just great figures. -- Al

this week.......

CCC1 Roman Legionaire in Lion skin, won on ebay

Yesterday, picked up my Andrea Roman Ballista which was painted and assembled for me. I also picked up my very first FL figures- the Roman Aquilier and Hornicen- WONDERFUL additions!!

Next Sunday is Hack and that closes the year out. Cross my fingers that Santa shows me some love!! {sm4}

I visited Dorset Soldiers today and collected my latest CASTINGS order which includes:

Three Cowboys for my Crescent Stagecoach - Driver, Shotgun guard and prone figure with rifle to lie on top.

Two Mounted Egyptian Lancers ( Britains set 115 lookalikes)

Seven Mounted Napoleonic Caribinearre Musicians - to complete my ten piece band (One has a non-standard Bombardon to fit - should be fun getting that over his head!!!)

Twenty piece Mounted 11th Hussars (Cherry-pickers) Band, with Escorting group (14 in band - 6 in Escort). Two more of my favourite bombardons to fit!

Six US Cavalry mounted figures - to convert to Buffalo Soldiers (new head cast especially for me by Giles) - which include a Guidon holder, trumpeter, two with six-guns and two with carbines. These were converted from a US 7th Cavalry figure by changing the head and borrowing weapons etcetera from other figures.

Should keep me busy painting for a while.

Also had a good natter to Giles about a new project that I have in mind for sometime next year involving a mounted Egyptian Cavalry Band. jb

Got the JJD white Fokker D-VII on Monday. It is a first class model with very well done paint finish and superb detail. The JJD aircraft are simply the best. Got all 7 of them and it is hard to pick a favorite, because they are all excellent. -- Al
